If two news operations are reporting that 2+2=4 and one is reporting 2+2=16andIFyouDON'TagreeYOU'REaCOMMIE, there is only one that is showing bias.

The biggest problem is that now a number of them are going "On the left, 2 and 2 is 4. On the Right, 2 and 2 is 16. The truth must be somewhere in the middle. 2 and 2 is obviously 10."

not quite.

fox actually fabricates "news" on a regular basis to support its political leanings. its president, roger ailes, has come out and said several times that he sees the network as a conservative counterweight to a perceived liberal bias in the news (wrongly perceived, as studies show). this means his network is NOT balanced. it is heavily weighted to the right. and not just to the right - it is weighted specifically to support the mainstream republican party (even newt gingrich complained about this during the primaries).

msnbc does employ two or three liberal pundits, but its news reportage is fairly down the middle.

What are you basing this ridiculous assertion on?

Fox News is biased to the right. CNN, msnbc, and abc don't report the same things as Fox, therefore they are left biased.

It's all right there.

3/10 on the troll

Can I get any type of citation on any of that? If you stance is that the major networks ABC, NBC, and CBS are not liberal leaning, then that is quite a statement.

Fox does lean right and everyone agrees that is what it is. The funny part is that ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN all lean left and clearly deny it.

Every news media; paper, TV, blog, etc has a bias, you just have to figure it out

The Universe is left leaning so by reporting the truth, yes, non-fox networks are left leaning.

MSNBC may be biased, but poll after poll have shown that MSNBC viewers understaning of the world is actually, you know, more correct, than those of Fox News. So say what you will about bias, MSNBC is still more accurate than Fox.

this is why "balance" is wrong. bias is one thing - and you can account for it (newspapers have been right- or left-biased for hundreds of years).

the notion of "balance" in the new is laughable. you are entitled to your own opinions. you are NOT entitled to your own facts.

Two of those stations are incredibly biased. Two of those stations are also grossly incompetent. One station falls into both categories. I'll let you guess as to which one that is.

Also note how this situation favors the Republican... (by proclaiming the truth the be in the middle, a "wrong" answer "wins" in this scenario 2-1)

Dark Overlord: Most media leans left.

Because reality leans left. Most media tend to report reality. This was shocking to you.

Dark Overlord: Been that way since the late 50s.

Agreed.

Dark Overlord: The journalism schools at the major colleges and universities have been left-leaning for longer than I can remember.

Journalism schools teach kids to report facts and reality. This was an enormous shock to you.

Dark Overlord: Now, it is inbred with 90% of it's "reporters" and talking heads vote Demo straight ticket.

This made up conservative talking point brought to you by American Conservative University. Some libby-lib-o-lib will probably counter it with their left leaning factual bias. Not me!

Dark Overlord: ABC, CBS, & NBC have been losing news viewership for the last 20 years.

Reality and facts are not determined by viewership. This was a huge shock to you.

Dark Overlord: The Cox newspapers and Atlanta's local news 'casts are horribly tilted left

The local newspapers report reality. Reality horribly tilts left.

This shocking post brought to you by Lenny.

In Maine they have a scale model of the solar system.

The Sun is on the campus of the University of Maine in Presque Isle (French for "almost an island", i.e., a peninsula). The partisanship of Fox News is somewhere beyond Pluto (Houlton, ME). I'm guessing it is offshore near Mount Desert Island, and its famous old-timey resort town, Bar Harbor.

http://astroguyz.com/2008/07/24/the-maine-solar-system-model-an-updat e /

For Canadians, the distance is about the same as Woodstock, NB, to Perth Andover, NB, with McCain Land in between (Fredericton in the other direction, might be easier to visualize). Perth Andover is where the winner of the Touch Bellini Contest on Kids in the Hall got to touch Belleni (wearing a hotel room towel). IIRC, the winner was a Hickey. Hickey is a common name in the area. Maybe he was a Hicks.

In the history of the world, about the only events that have ever happened in or near Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, was the Touch Bellini Contest and the Aroostook War. Neither of them were our finest hour as a species. But more people knew about the Touch Bellini Contest.

I'm sorry we lost Aroostook County to the State of ME. All those potato fields could have been ours, and also a much shorter route to Upper Canada, with fewer icy hills.

The weather in Presque Isle, Maine is the same as the weather in McCain Land, except one hour earlier. The McCains have their private executive airport in New Brunswick and their control tower in the USA. The multi-billion dollar food giant and this international airport are Florenceville, NB's claim to fame (not bad for a village of 700 or so).

But I digress.

Suffice to say that Fox News is further out there than the Way Outs on the Inter-Galactic Iditerod Dog Sled Race. CNN and the other corporate news sources don't seem all that much less crazier than batshiat sorbet.

Dark Overlord: Most media leans left. Been that way since the late 50s. The journalism schools at the major colleges and universities have been left-leaning for longer than I can remember. One of CBS' mid-level or upper-level guys published a book with the data in the 90s. And a second book two or three years later with newer info. Now, it is inbred with 90% of it's "reporters" and talking heads vote Demo straight ticket. Producers and assistants same voting. ABC, CBS, & NBC have been losing news viewership for the last 20 years.

It goes all the way to the local level. The Cox newspapers and Atlanta's local news 'casts are horribly tilted left to where their readership/viewership have been falling also. The newspaper, "Atlanta Pravda & Tass" had to shrink the paper size to cut costs from lower subscription numbers.

TANSTAAFL - there ain't no such thing as a free lunch. Most people know this and move away from the strident liberal push for more & bigger government.

Surely it would be trivial to provide data, instead of allusions to data, to support your assertions.

If you believe that there is now, or has ever been, a liberal bias in the American media, you are too stupid to be allowed to vote. In fact, you are too stupid to be allowed to reproduce. If you have not yet had kids, please geld yourselves. If you have had kids, please tear out your tongue so you can't preach your bullshiat to them. For safe measure, geld them too.

When I worked as a production assistant at Fox News, I got to see how bias is created firsthand. Say a story comes in about a woman in Florida who had her house repossessed after being laid off for contracting IBS. So, to make a full blown story out of this, we need to get a real estate expert, an unemployment expert, and a doctor who specializes in diseases of the lower bowel. There are thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of possible choices to contact.

To find out if a person was right for the show, we'd ask them a single screening question: if your daughter was raped by an endangered lowland gorilla, would you have the animal killed knowing that it was one of the last of its species?

We only took the people who said "No, I wouldn't have the animal killed." Why? Because Fox News only wants people who are down with gorilla rape. We loved it. On birthdays, we'd order sheet cakes printed with gorilla rape scenes. I got a gorilla rape shower curtain for the holidays. If you look in Shepard Smith's wallet, you won't find pictures of his kids. You'll find a close-up of a gorilla raping something to pieces.

I was hoping the study actually had some information on the bias of the networks, but it doesn't.

All it talks about is the bias of the networks' viewers. I suppose you could extrapolate from that...but, it's an imperfect method at getting at the truth.
