I don't advocate drug use for anyone, that said, you're full of sh*t. Do a little research and all the mental illness studies are bunk.

It is an herb that is relatively safe and should be legal for use by adults. It has many proven medicinal qualities and should be readily available to folks who would benefit from it's use.

As an anit-con, anti-lib, anti-government, anarchist; I agree with you completely. While I believe cannabis has no major damaging effects on an adult, using anything that alters the brain during developmental stages is not going to yield positive results. I took recreational drugs maybe once or twice a month from 14 - 19 and I can honestly say my attitde, my grades, and my performance went through the roof after I stopped smoking weed, dropping acid and taking speed. I stayed sober for 15 years. In my 30's I got diagnosed with a cervical stenosis, I didn't even know I had a cervix. After going through two years of physical therapy and some pretty hardcore drugs, including Oxycodone, I gave up on what the doctors could do and started smoking pot. I can honestly say my attitude, my grades (getting a second degree,) and my performance went through the roof after I quit walking around in constant pulsating pain.

The guy in this article is clearly farked up in other ways.

Drugs are awesome - that's why people do them. The problem is when you can't identify anymore when it stops being awesome and starts being a liability.

You want pot to become dangerous? Regulate it to Philip Morris like cigarettes. Pot is barely addictive on it's surface, I get sad and moody after about 2 days but I'm better in 5. Give it to P.M. and it will have been sprayed with their version of spice to make cheap ass badly grown weak weed better.

Decriminalize it, let people grow it on their own, keep the sale and taxation illegal. The last thing I want is to be required to go buy Marlboro Greens and get 18 kinds of cancer from their additives.

I know it has never been show to cause developmental issues, and any issues related to cell damage are smoke related. None of that is the reason 7 year old kids should not smoke pot though. A 7 year old has little knowledge of self control, and zero knowlege of drugs unless DARE starts younger than I thought. No one should think a kid can handle being high, even at 16 you don't really understand the concequences of taking drugs. Add to that the already major problem with drug education and you have a 7 year old who see someone's older brother with some blow and decides sure why not.

Smoking pot won't kill the kid or his brain, but it doesn't need to to be be a bad idea.

That said, the previous posts regarding use in children and teens is correct; the evidence currently indicates it can be harmful. Many drugs have harmful potential and so it's use must be weighed with benefit. So, a child undergoing chemo...that might justify use depending on circumstance, etc. I wouldn't advocate recreational use under any circumstances for >24 while there's a potential for such serious harm. However those who are adults can make their own choices.

I'd also smoke recreationally if I wasn't sick...just to be clear. As it is, it's use keeps me from being very sick. I was and am VERY happy to not have to take vicodin almost daily. :) Remission is teh awesome.
