(Click Orlando)   It's bad enough the man trying to save a drowning woman never resurfaced, but the crowd of 50 people taunting them both onshore really seems a bit excessive   (clickorlando.com) divider line 81

Well did he ever return? No he never returned. And his fate is still unlearned. He may swim forever in the swamps of Florida. He's the man who never returned.

Stay classy Florida.

It's not her fault that he couldn't actually swim. Hero-wanna-be should have figured this into his rescue plans.

So the woman faked being in distress and the person who tried to save her died. I'd taunt her too.

The My Little Pony Killer: Okay, I want to know why the rednecks were taunting the victim. WTF Florida.

Probably this:
They reported a woman was in distress in the water, although some witnesses said it was a prank.
The 37-year-old victim jumped in to rescue her, but no one saw him resurface.

More stories like this come out of New York and California than Florida. Purely by population numbers alone it's impossible there are more "kooky" stories coming out of Florida than one of those states. It's just become a thing to point out the Florida stories.

What an odd brain hurting article. My educated guess was that the crowd had some relation to the 37 year old and was taunting the lady because the guy died to save her sorry arse. The place was called "Cocoa pond" so I can't imagine that it was very deep or large if it fits the description of a pond.

Hmm. It's almost as if the population of kooks is not equally distributed across the country, but rather concentrated in certain places, like America's Wang...

From the video, it used to be a Quarry and its 200 feet deep.

They're partying at an abandoned quarry outside of Titusville. They're rednecks or more specifically, swamp crackers.

FTA: The pond isn't easy to search because it used to be a quarry and is over 200-feet deep in some areas. One officer said a crane was still at the bottom of the water. It even has its own current that swirls in a circle and can be dangerous to swimmers.

And how do you know they were "rednecks"? As somebody who you know, actually lives in an area where there are "rednecks", they wouldn't be standing on the shore making a mockery, they'd hurt themselves trying to help.

But if you'd like to pull your bigoted little head out of your rear for a moment, go on, tell me, what kind of people do you really think stand around doing something like that? I'll give you one huge hint: They aren't voting for Romney in November.

My guess too. Also, the news reader in the video says "she made it to the shore" while the text indicates "woman was brought safely to shore by another bystander" which doesn't necessarily mean he swam to save her but rather lent a helping hand once she reached the shore. Perhaps she wasn't even drowning and the "rescuers" were her friends preventing an ass beating after someone else died trying to save someone who was playing around? Who the Fark knows given so little information. That's the best thing about these journalistic masterpieces. They leave the story up to our imaginations. If only all stories were this sparse, we could have much more interesting conversations.

Yeah those quarry ponds can be scary. 200ft of murky water is a long way down, and without some highly specialized equipment I doubt they'll ever find the guy's body.

You'd still be left with all the low forehead / no forehead cavemen in the rest of the south. Lincoln was the problem. When the rednecks wanted to break off from the US he should have said "Good idea".

wow, you're truly pathetic if you think good and evil people are that easily categorized by political affiliation. I'm going to just assume that you meant political affiliation and not skin color.

that being said, I agree that the bystanders needn't be rednecks necessarily. THAT being said, we are talking about florida here, so it's either old jewish ladies, cuban expats, or rednecks. Together they make up 99% of the state. The cubans are too busy dancing salsa, and the old jewish ladies are already past their bedtime, which leaves rednecks as the most LIKELY people swimming at a quarry, though not necessarily. We'll just play the odds.

In all seriousness though, it does sound like the woman was faking and the man died as a result. Sounds like this is the reason the crowd was taunting them.

and in terms of you, you LIVE the fark politics tab in your daily life, don't you? I have no doubt you'd jump in and try to save somebody from drowning...unless you found out he was a socialist. Based on your idea that people who "aren't voting for Romney in November" would let somebody drown and taunt them to boot, I'm not fully convinced you wouldn't do the same if one of those people you describe was drowning themselves if that's how you view the world, or the people you think are on the other side of the aisle from you. As a liberal, I have plenty of conservative friends whose views are different than mine. And while I find their political opinions to be borderline retarded, and sometimes full-on retarded, they are my friends solely because they are good and decent people. They go out of their way to help others, it's just that they also happen to think trickle down economics works. Does that mean I should think them capable of taunting a drowning victim? No, it just means I won't vote for them if they run for county treasurer.

I'll give you a hint: people who disagree with you are not evil.

/and yes, if you were a liberal who accused republicans of generally being that despicable, I'd call you on it too.

2012-07-30 11:55:48 AM
Based on the second article, sounds like dumb and/or drunk lady had the hilarious idea to pretend to be drowning. Guy jumps in to save her, hits head and/or drowns. Crowd taunts her for getting guy killed.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 16,412 people, 6,939 households, and 4,232 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,200.3 inhabitants per square mile (849.4/km2). There were 8,064 housing units at an average density of 1,081.1 per square mile (417.4/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 62.47% White, 32.28% African American, 0.63% Native American, 0.94% Asian, 0.23% Pacific Islander, 1.58% from other races, and 1.87% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.93% of the population.
...
Based on 2009 FDLE and FBI reporting in the Uniform Crime Reports, the city of Cocoa has the highest crime rate and arrest rate per capita in Brevard County.

Assuming that they were rednecks just betrays your bias. Don't assume.
