Police also found a small container that appeared to contain spice. The woman who owned the car said it wasn't hers and she didn't know where it came from.

Well, that clearly explains it. Also, if you leave a hitchhiker in the car, with the keys, there really is only one outcome..

The man decided to stay in the car, so the others left the keys in the car and went into the store.

Stupid is as stupid does

Question is, will car owner's insurance pay for any of this after leaving the keys in the car with a stranger who did all the damage? I hope not because there should be a dumbass tax to be paid.

Years and years ago a buddy and I were hitchiking. A nice guy around 40 picked us up. Same thing, he stopped and went into a store. He took his keys with him, but as soon as he went in, my buddy started looking around for stuff to steal. I almost smacked him as I said the f*ck's wrong with you, stop that shiat. Thankfully he did.

We're... not friends anymore.

In related news, a person who sees no problem with leaving a hitchhiker unattended in their car is still alive, and has somehow managed to stay that way for decades.

There's no such exclusion on a standard ISO auto form. If they have comp coverage, chances are it'll cover the theft. If the carrier is not using a standard ISO form, whether or not there's coverage depends on the policy language, which varies by carrier. I've been an agent for 15 years and have only seen a couple of policies that exclude coverage if the keys are left in the car. My last winter in PA, I had three different clients file claims for cars that were stolen while warming up in their driveways, and all three claims (three different carriers) were paid.

I have a colleague here in AZ whose son's car was stolen from a convenience store while he was inside buying cigarettes. He'd left it unlocked and running, which is really stupid considering how much auto theft we have here and that his mom is a freaking insurance agent. Anyway, his carrier (Travelers) paid the claim, but they did drop him at renewal.

Buddy Bragg: Here ma'am. Let me help you with these. Beautiful young lady like you shouldn't be carrying groceries. Let a man do that for you.

Parking Lot Woman: Now, I didn't ask you for help, so don't expect a tip.

Buddy Bragg: Oh, that's okay ma'am. I'll just take your car
