I suppose it isn't too soon to make jokes about the Kent State shooting.

Popped into my head as well at the beginning of the article.

Well done subby. Took me a few seconds . . .

So when are we going to assign a catch-phrase name to the phenomenon of angsty teenagers going nuts with assault weapons? If we don't do it the media will . . . and it will be horrible.

Whenever I see stories like this, I remember the old Usenet days when university students would leave the computer labs and forget to log off the terminal. Many a co-ed would find that she had posted a solicitation for some headboard-banging sex to a bunch of the alt groups. I always wonder if any of these new stories are the result of somebody getting some poor slob's Facebook or Twitter password.

Still don't understand. The Kent State students were victims of the National Guard shooting. This is a Kent State student who threatened to shoot, as opposed to being shot. I keep hoping I'll have some ah-hah moment with this headline, but I'm thinking instead it was #greenlightfail.

You should continue thinking... and try to do it better.

If the kid "joined the National Guard" he would have become - anyone? anyone? - one of the shooters.

Fantastic headline. I laughed as soon as the article loaded.

For people who don't know about arguably one of the most shameful chapters in American Military History, it's okay. You'll forget how you feel in about 20 seconds the next time you gain pointless and unwarranted affirmation from an advertiser.

Really? The guard owns all college related shootings because of Kent State. Not a stretch at all. There's a reason they don't get it.

It was a terrible propaganda point and still is. Now the Mai Lai Massacre was definitely a terrible part of US military history from this era. Doesn't come up anywhere near as often, sort of stands out. Kent was just a talking point for angsty activist types and still is. The fact that 4 civillian deaths during a riot when they were actively screwing with military is a talking point at all is pretty poignant when other performances are taken into account.

Absolutely not a goddamn thing about the Kent State shooting.

Seriously. Never entered into the lesson at any time, in any manner, in any grade, in any class. Not History, nor Social Studies. Nothing. Not a single word.

Learned a whole hell of a lot about WWII though.
