I'm not saying this would be the best solution, but what if you got a bunch of people together who did nothing but just laugh as hard as they could at the Westboro protesters? I mean just laugh and point at them, never say a bad word to them, just laugh.

It'd be the ultimate trolling, and the Westboro people might screw up and do something to get themselves arrested. It's kind of fitting, since they are the biggest saddest joke around, just stand there and laugh at them like the pathetic bunch of losers they really are.

Was it ad block that prevented the video from showing on my computer?

I had to fire up IE which I have no add ons for to see that very disappointing video.

No, the zombie thing is overdone. Stop it. It's not interesting or funny any more.
Grandmas have likely been sending zombie-related emails to all of their relatives for months by now.
Please, move on.

In an odd way, this is a funny and interesting way to just throw really big parties. Westboro says they're going to go picket some place. 300+ people show up and throw a huge party while the Westboro morons are left to spin.

With the massive popularity of the Batman TV show in 1965, they brought back to the cinema the 1940s Batman serials. Which involved zombies. That was the first and only time I heard about zombies for decades until this new craze happened. Except of course for the awesome British rockers. Every dance party from junior high through high school had to include "She's not There".

They've been quite popular in video games and kid's TV shows for a while, along with human-looking robots.
It's okay to harm or "kill" them because they're not really people, they just look like them.

Although, I don't think people mind violence in video games much any more, improved graphics mean nudity is far more harmful to those little angels.

MagSeven: While their hearts may be in the right places, I have to say: zombies at a funeral? I can see how that could also be very upsetting to mourners.

It was a planned demonstation by WBC, not a funeral.

From another article: The church's website states that they will picket Joint Base Lewis-McChord, and further reads, "When you goofy, unthankful, flag-worshipping fools decided that you would declare war against the Lord and against His anointed, you put yourselves in the cross-hairs of a raging mad God. We will come to tell you a few things, to wit." The statement goes on to point out scripture and their interpretation of particular bible passages.

intelligent comment below: Way to keep giving these idiots publicity, the more you counter protest the more they get their names in the news.

Publicity is important for organizations that need donations to run, or that will achieve their ends through public awareness. The WBC does neither, so it seems like the people who profit most from the WBC are news agencies and media hubs like Fark.com Perhaps the zombie group wants their cause to get a little of the public awareness or income that HuffPo and Fark are enjoying. The WBC is a news platform unto itself by now.

cman: Why are we still giving free press to these wackos?

Because groups like these should be the public face of religion in America. The only mention religion should get by the press in this country should be to point out the bigotry and to mock them for the ridiculous and outdated beliefs they hold.

Yes, do please move on to something else that will inevitably become the latest whinging point for those who have no sense of humor or history only to see zombies come back into the popular mainstream again later in the same cyclical fashion that some people seem chronically unable to fathom even with decades of evidence and ostensibly at least two remaining functioning brain cells to rub together and taunt zombies with.

But not every Christian is like that.

Not all Muslims are terrorists. Not all Jews are evil bankers.

There are always good and bad folk in any part of any group.

You know what?

I think the best way to counteract these DEMONS is to actually hold hands and sing hymns, or the Our Father , or even 'ecumenical hymns' like "Michael, row the boat ashore" ... there are even 'hippy love' songs that don't mention a deity that will counter their radical satanic message of hate. Love is the important thing. Exercising the Power of love like Christ said - even if you don't believe he ever existed ...

D&D never made evil like these bastards.

Return of the Living Dead. I was watching zombie movies, filming them in backyards and forests, and other stupid things, in the 1990s, before the current craze came along. We used video recorders and obviously posted nothing to the internet, and had no idea whether or not anybody else was doing it, since the internet was dial-up. The internet is fantastic: the pop culture of the 90s abated after 9/11 but came back around 2005. They just never stop, like some kind of undead decade.

2012-07-30 04:33:07 AM
Do not protest them. Do not counter-protest them. Do not do anything.

There is nothing that can be done by any person, group, media, government, documentary filmmaker or news broadcast team to improve our understanding or relations with this Church, nor is there anything anyone can say to discredit, denounce or sway them. Giving them more attention is like wrestling with a pig - you feel dirty afterward and the pig likes it.

Anyone interested in how this cult operates should look into Louis Theroux's documentaries on The Most Hated Family in America. After watching them, you realize that this group of people are quite simply beyond reason or rehabilitation. There's nothing left we can learn from them theologically, personally or psychologically. It's just futile to interact with them on any level. The only recourse is to ignore them.

2012-07-30 04:34:43 AM

cman: But not every Christian is like that.

I'm willing to concede the point that not all christians are bigots, just the majority of them. 61.9% of christians in America belong to churches that are actively campaigning to deny civil rights to gay people, deny women's rights, and get their fairy tales taught as science.

One third of Americans are biblical literalists, and some 80% believe their invisible sky wizard helps Tim Tebow win football games. Every christian believes in obvious nonsense, it's just that the few intelligent believers rationalize the most ridiculous parts by claiming it must be allegory.

In this day and age, people should be embarrassed to admit in public they are religious.
