Lochte was tired. Perhaps he should have stepped aside for the good of the team.

/wait, what am I suggesting?

Cant win 'em all.

Every time.

If Phelps swam anchor they would have won.

I was shocked that they lost when I watched that race. Phelps did exactly what he needed to do, got them out to (and/or held onto one) a huge lead and Lochte just wasn't good enough during the anchor leg.

I want the US to wind gold every time... But just can't root for Lochte. Once I saw his mini-bio thing they did... what a jerk. I was looking forward to watching him swim until Saturday when I saw that.

Cymbal: If Phelps swam anchor they would have won.

Well... yeah, Phelps (47.15) swam a better leg than Lochte (47.74). And, yes if Lochte swam at Phelps' pace the US would have won and all that. But, Lochte's time was hardly choking pace.

The real story out of this race is that Agnel swam an great leg (46.74) for the comeback. It's like Lesak's crazy leg from Beijing, but in reverse. France was the favourite in Beijing, but no one was saying they choked after Lesak's heroic anchor leg. This is the reverse of that.

Phelps didn't sound like he was really ready for the Olympics this time around.

Florida Gator = Douche Nation.

Lochte did say he was "sorta bummed" about it. Who's got the bong on that team?

2012-07-30 10:42:29 AM
I can't stand Lochte, he's a douchebag, but I don't think you can blame him for the United States not winning. He swam a pretty decent leg, the French guy just swam an amazing one.

He only practiced for little more than a year. So he isn't at all in top form.

I didn't see that bio, but I wasn't a big fan of Lochte putting on his stupid grille after he got his gold medal. If you just received your gold medal, why would you care about putting on your stupid grille if you weren't a douchebag? At least someone on the IOC told him he would not get his medal if he had it on during the ceremony.

As annoyed as I am with Phelps completely dropping the ball on this training and coming in 4th to Lochte, I just can't root for Lochte. Grilles are intended to enhance attention whoring, nothing more. What kind of attention does he expect to steal away from Phelps, who has had a way more phenomenal career than he has?

He also had shoes made that say Ryan on the bottom of one, and Locthe on the other, so it leaves his name in his footprints on the wet deck around the pool

It's really difficult for me to like someone who gets custom designed shoes for anything other than "my foot's f'ed up"

WTF is this shiat?

I'm tired of watching the media whine about how someone should be kicked off the team every time they don't come in 1st.

He wasn't one of the top 4 in that event.. that's why the question is being asked. You should read more of the article

If you're going to be as big a douche as Lochte, you'd better deliver the goods. Otherwise you'll look like an asshole and people will talk shiat about you. See: Ochocinco, Chad.

/Yes, I know he's Chad Johnson again.

Yeah, the US is crazy at that. Remember Bob Costas trashing Bode Miller in 2006? It was incredible how much America turned on Bode.

/ Even if he was a bid of a dick, Miller was the best skeir in the world at the time (hands down). He came back empty handed, but the hype was always unrealistic.
// Multiple medals are really difficult in alpine sking. An overwhleming favourite wins maybe a quarter of the time. It isn't a "choke" to finish 5th in a downhill.

So, Lochte and the Frog are living together? Hope Solo was right, there is a lot of sex going on there.

Imagine if 1990's Vanilla Ice (not even the Vanilla Ice that is currently on DIY network, but the 1990's version) was really good at swimming. Then imagine them giving the guy an interview.

I may have missed named it "mini-bio". I'm talking about the at-home interview thing where he shows his farking green rhinestone sparkly shoes he "designed" with his name on the souls. And his mentioning of his "grill" and whatnot. I think they showed it right before the 4x100 IM.

I'm willing to bet the French were saying just that.

I thought that was the most likeable part of the interview, not his words but the fact he wasn't a swimming robot. Overall he came of like a gator (i.e. douche) but I liked that he wasn't so concerned about every little thing that he didn't enjoy life.

Ultimately, he might be a douche, but so are most people. Phelps is half retarded but hey, win gold medals and people don't care what a moron you are!

right there with you, his extreme lack of humility in that bio and after the 400 IM race made me go "what a farking jerk". I know you have to be cocky to be the best, but being outright dismissive of the greatest swimmer in the world is bad Ju-ju. Blowing the huge lead Phelps created will hopefully humble him a bit

2012-07-30 12:08:15 PM
I thought they were going to lose until Phelps jumped in and gave them a huge lead....only to be blown.

The first guy for the US did a great job or the Australian WR holder did bad.

You know what... That's true. Chad Ochocinco was a bad example.

Do I get kicked off of Fark for ceding a point now?

Naw. I've been here sort of a long time but I've conceded wrongness and even apologized like three times and I haven't been kicked out yet..

Part of the trouble is that the guy who might have done better (Grevers, who swum in the prelims) is also a gold medal favorite in the 100m backstroke, which had their semifinals just a few minutes before the relay.

Too short a turnaround for him to do both events, I guess.

2012-07-30 09:11:58 PM
The US got beat by a pretty unbelievable anchor leg from the French. The Australians, on the other hand, had no excuse. All the hype about the "Weapons of Mass Destruction" when they wound up being duds.

He goes a little too far sometimes, but Chad's talking shiat is always with his tongue planted firmly in his cheek, so I never really get mad at him.
