So, Ron Paul at the convention, eh?

2012-07-29 07:30:25 PM
He should just quit. He doesn't want this enough.

Well... at least he can pronounce nuclear. So he's got that going for him. Which is nice.

ole' Mitt had better keep Israel happy with him or he doesn't have any chance of ever seeing the White House.

tlchwi02: so basically, if we vote for mitt romney, we are going to war with iran.

No matter who we elect, we will shed blood for Israel if that's what Israel wants.

They have their bagmen (AIPAC) and their legbreakers (Media) to ensure no candidate steps out of line. It's a mob.

hammettman: crimony, Mitt, can I at least have a weekend off without having to laugh at your farkwit antics?

I think that's the point. He's trying to wear us down so by the end of the Summer we no longer give a shiat what he says.

This means Sarah Palin is automatically the nominee, and Romney has to perform a bris.

ShawnDoc: cameroncrazy1984: The ones that matter aren't. The "national" polls are basically heavily favoring Republican sampling (see any poll by Rassmussen, ever) and that skews the polling average.

RCP average has Obama up only by 1.6. The funny thing is, the polls that give Obama the most advantage in the race are the Fox News and WSJ polls. (+4 and +6)

I'm guessing Fox and WSJ heavily massaged their data to fire up conservatives. I mean how else do you expect a poll of their audiences to lean toward Obama?

Mugato: That might be part of why there's only a total of 50,000 people that they plan on attending the convention. They got federal funds for security (yes, Mr. "fark you, Feds, Rick Scott), they're closing off streets so pedestrians can't even walk, people trying to rent out their apartments because the hotels will be full, turns out it's going to be about as big as a Guns n Roses concert in 1992. The republicans know they're going to skip this one out.

Wow, that's actually perfect... That was the GNR/Metallica tour, and they had the bigger crowds. 50,000 is probably pretty close. Otherwise, a standard arena concert is 17,000-20,000....

And between Hetfield getting burned up and Axl constantly storming off early or not even bothering to show up, the tour was a total clusterfark.

and 50,000 seems pretty small for an event that's bringing people in from across the country. Especially when you consider that GNR tour played for 50,000 people per city.

He thinks politics works like business. He wants to make the deal that makes the most money. He has no soft skills.

WizardofToast: He needs to stick to one a script.

I think he has only a vague idea wtf he's going to talk about at any given moment. Given his upbringing and the nature of his professional career I'd bet he's simply not one to do a lot of reading, independent research, or take the advice of anyone around him. So a script of any form would most likely require him to come to a firm and workable conclusion on any given subject on his own since he's not going to listen to anyone else, and since he seems unwilling to do that type of work, well, here we are. A walking, talking trainwreck of complete unpredictability.

There's a reason he lost (badly) to McCain in 2008 and took months and millions of dollars to put away the self-destructing retards the GOP fielded in 2012. He's a shiatty candidate. He doesn't want to put in the work, and it shows in almost every single thing he does or says.

GAT_00: How the fark can you possibly be this bad at campaigning when you've been doing it since 2007?

You've got it backwards. He's been campaigning since 2007 because he's this bad at it. Some people just aren't built for some things: My mom can't do math better than 9th grade algebra, I can't play music very well, Romney can't campaign for crap.

MithrandirBooga: I truly believe he doesn't even think all his gaffes are even gaffes.

You might be right, but I'd also offer up the theory he hasn't a fark to give about his gaffes because his sense of entitlement is so great he honestly thinks there's nothing that can keep him from winning the election. He recognizes on some level that he's farked up, but if he apologizes at all it's in a half assed fashion because he thinks the apology will have as much impact on his chances as the fark up: zero.

stoli n coke: And between Hetfield getting burned up and Axl constantly storming off early or not even bothering to show up, the tour was a total clusterfark.

It was worse back in '89... They cancelled in Phx so much that they scheduled 2 extra nights at some point, not a part of any tour, that summer. It was a 'We're-sorry-for-cancelling-so-many-shows-in-one-city' deal, just the two nights at a small place called Celebrity Theater. Awesome in-the-round style theater, no seat more than 50-60 feet from the stage. We went the first night, about a quarter of the way into the encore(Paradise City), Axl was swinging the mic around, and hit himself in the lip. Without a word, he dropped the mic, flung the stand across the stage and stormed off... The band continued to play, which was particularly weird because there were no lead vocals, so I got treated to an instrumental version of the song punctuated with just the chorus from the rest of the band. Needless to say, they cancelled the second night of the 'We're sorry to cancel shows' special tour.

Yeah, 50,000 total is pretty sad, what do these things usually bring in?

On the flip side, we wouldn't have the pleasure of watching each news channel stretch and parse the information 10x over in order to make it look competitive. MSNBC is the best. They'll present all the information from a given poll that makes it seem Romney is farked without specifically stating so....trailing in all sorts of key states, demographic groups, etc, but then they'll be like "BUT LOOK AT THE NATIONAL POLLING FOLKS!" 'First Read' on their website after a poll comes out from them is hillarious.

So he has 2 weeks to name a VP, realistically. When his first choice bombs, what are the odds that he selects a different nominee by the time the convention rolls around?

I have just watched this, and how did he walk back from what he said earlier?

He just added that he would also support an internal regime change.

Hmmm I have to say I don't see Obama losing this. 2016 is probably the best shot the republicans have at the WH. Don't know what they will look like then but as one of them pointed out, right now they look like a bunch of fat white old men....who are yelling at clouds.

How is that a surprise? Whoever is put up by the Democrats or Republicans, they will always garner 45% of the vote, its the 10% of the undecided/swing voters/people who can't be bothered to vote until really motivated who will win the election in the hand

It's always been like that.

Gergesa: Hmmm I have to say I don't see Obama losing this.

Obama could cure cancer and AIDS, personally hand deliver everyone a $10,000 check and bring back Firefly, and there would still be 30% of the country that would never, ever vote for him.

HE'S DOING THIS ON PURPOSE.

It's a pattern now: An "adviser" says something extremist to make the lunatic fringe happy, and then Mitt walks it back to satisfy the moderates. He and his campaign have done this too many times in the last few weeks for this to be an accident.

Lost Thought 00: So he has 2 weeks to name a VP, realistically. When his first choice bombs, what are the odds that he selects a different nominee by the time the convention rolls around?

There's basically no way for it to bomb because the candidates open to him are so shiatty there's nowhere to go but up.

If you take the entire pool of candidates, you have to first remove anyone that thinks they have a shot in 2016 because they aren't going to want to hitch a ride on this fail train.

From those remaining, you'll have to remove anyone that wants to have an active part in governing. For example, Biden was clear with Obama that he'd not accept the position unless he had a key role in policy making and his voice would be heard. Romney will simply not go for that.

You can also remove anyone that has a chance of being more interesting or compelling than Romney in any way. Again, that's not how he rolls.

You're left with very few people. They'll all be boring, ambitionless, and bring nothing compelling to the table. I'm betting Pawlenty because I don't think I recall anyone more desperate to get in or near the White House. If he's not offered the VP slot I bet he will just apply to be on the cleaning or kitchen staff regardless of who wins.

Those are gaffes. But the combination punch of "adviser says something extreme, Mitt then walks it back" has happened repeatedly now and it's obviously a strategy for him to continue straddling the major issues.
