Agreed, we need more science programming for kids like Bill's show, but we also need to reach people of voting age with engaging science programming. It would help inoculate their minds against dangerous political lies and help them choose policy and leaders more wisely.

I love Bill. Even when being faced with people who think there are volcanoes on the moon that somehow have an effect on Earth, he tries so hard to be patient and explains things. I, on the other hand, would launch into a swear-filled Lewis Black style rant, only to end up blacking out from rage and beating said people with whatever object aren't bolted to the floor.

We need that type of show again.

Working on it.

Seriously, I've decided that my career goal is to become the next Bill Nye. I just have no idea how to go about it. Youtube seems the obvious route, however getting it onto TV proper seems a tad hopeless when the niche educational shows only want to broadcast swamp truckers and farking aliens. Even TVO, which is a dedicated publically-funded educational network in Ontario, ignores science. Last time I checked their website, their "Science" category included shows on gardening and spirituality. I cold-called HR and they told me to get stuffed (I need to get through to someone in Creative).

Any of you Farkers have any advice and/or connections in Canada?

i think i remember you from some other old science-y thread, and i can't remember exactly what was said (and i don't want to bother go looking) i think my suggestions were to just do cheap demonstrations nearly anywhere and everywhere you could and building from there

however, since i recently learned that seth mcfarlane is redoing a version of cosmos, i think he has some money to throw around towards the cause. have you considered trying to contact him with the idea and/or possibly a self-made demo on youtube? (now that i mention it, i think youtube was a suggestion also. just start your own channel, do demonstrations and advertise for viewers/subs)

in any case, good luck, we can never have enough asimovs, feynmans, wizards, nyes, beakmans, sagans, de grasse tysons, kakus and greenes (well maybe enough of these two guys as they annoy me)

TheGreatGazoo: Apparently he hasn't made a dime off of the last series because Hollywood math claims the series never made a profit.

A great turnabout of this kind of thing:

Winston Groom, author of "Forrest Gump", fell victim to this.

The studio approached him about licensing the sequel novel, "Gump & Co."

Groom refused, claiming he could not in good conscience license the sequel to a commercial failure.

I don't know if I got "may be filming new episodes" from the article.

Maybe "is not necessarily against the idea of filming new episodes, but no plans have been made whatsoever at this time" is more accurate.
