The syncro diving is good.

For those of us in Britain with just a tv arial all we have is three channels with a choice of HD or standard def plus after 7pm a rolling highlights channel.

I might have to see how much a HD/SD freesat dish costs to get all 24 channels

verbal_jizm: Not to say that it has the drama to draw a lot of viewers but badminton is a seriously aerobic sport. It ain't easy.

Yeah but there is a reason why some of these are so poorly attended the TV ratings reflect that fact.

Wimbledon is only widely attended because its a historical tennis event.

Do it! What they've put together really is spectacular.

(it also means you'll also be able to watch the 30-odd different versions of the BBC News from the regions. I like to pretend I'm in the Scottish Highlands for the news. They have lovely accents).

And thanks from KY.

Thanks to miserable hockey coverage in the US I had a bunch of links saved from the playoffs & was using some of them to find streams. The kayak races were interesting except that the audio commentary was about 30 seconds ahead of the video so it was a bit confusing (although it did give you a chance to wake up from a stupor & pay attention when the commentators started shouting about something....)

This link seems to be a quite good one, thanks again.

2012-07-29 12:45:00 PM

consider this: cicdle: They want people to watch nbc sports channel.....

That would be fine if everybody that had NBC also had NBCSP. Since one is broadcast and the other isn't, that's not the case.

What you're forgetting is that many people who do get NBC Sports Network don't have any idea that they get it, or that it even exists. By putting a more popular sport on NBCSN early on, they're trying to encourage people to go hunting for it, which will hopefully increase viewership of that channel after the Olympics are over.

Some Bass Playing Guy: Olympics coverage sucks in the U.S.

And it's willfully bad. Every time NBC has had the Olympics it's been tape delayed crap. And the IOC continues to sell them the rights to it. I won't watch it. Fark 'em.

If all they're going to show is old movies and fishing shows until hockey season, that's not going to increase viewership no matter how much olympics programming they put on it.

They need to snag some more broadcasting rights (I think MLB is up for bidding again fairly soon, maybe they can snag it from Fox and put us out of our misery)

They had extensive live coverage of the Tour de France and they have plenty of other sports stuff on. Granted it's nothing like Universal Sports, but it's not bad.

I thought U. of Minnesota ice hockey always had a great idea to combat the problem of corporate season tickets holders who never show up: Rush seating.

You pay a discounted ticket at the gate ($5 or so) and may sit in any unoccupied seat in the building. If the rightful ticket holder shows up, you vacate. You may continue this until everyone shows up, then you move to standing room. Once standing room fills up, you gotta go.

Apparently the British organisers are going to introduce something far more amusing: public naming and shaming of any sponsors who leave an empty block

Make the sponsors desperately scramble to fix this, they created the problem. I expect McDonalds will be handing out free tickets in London branches any hour now.

Men's Sabre finals going on now. Current match is pretty exciting an not as much screaming as yesterday's women's event.

In the UK we have 20 HD channels showing pretty much everything. Seeing as we can't get any tickets (even though the venues are only half full) at least we can see it on TV....

In table tennis, we have Natalya Partyka of Poland currently playing Li Jie of the Netherlands. Partyka was born without a right hand or forearm. She'll be in the Paralympics as well.

The game's tied at two sets a piece; it's best of 7.

Wow, that was almost as compelling of a match as the Men's Archery final from yesterday. The announcer for beach volleyball is by far the best of the entire Olympics.

To tell the truth, half the time, if the point is contested, I have no idea why the point goes to one guy and not the other. I watch for the awesomeness that is the uncontested point.

Also, Sabre is a lot easier to see compared to foil.

The Olympic feed can't even come out of replay enough to catch the next point in the sabre match between Romania and Russia.

Wife and I just realized that if they had the disorder, the last three gymnasts that we saw qualify as dwarfs (adults under 4-10).

Some people think though that there aren't any dwarf women and that dwarfs just spring out of holes in the ground. During the night thread, I think I'll post Gimli because he's awesome.
