Same in Missouri thanks to the Republican primary for Governor and US Senate here in two weeks.

Thank God for DVR.

Wow that's gotta be annoying. Talk about a ton of derp

Oh it is.

It's mostly a pissing match to see who is the most "conservative" and who can kiss the ass of big business the most (while pretending to give a shiat about small businesses).

I pause the DVR a little bit so I can skip over that and all the pointless interviews that NBC has. Makes watching it on NBC a bit more tolerable.

I hear ya. I ran expat shield and BBC Iplayer all day through the tv. I don't know how you guys can stand NBB. I think I'm going to get a roku this week then add the private nowhere TV station and watch BBC through there.

Hey, you can get into equestrian dressage, no problem. It's always the way. Ladies' gymnastics medal night? Scalper's paradise.

This is the first medal ceremony NBC's shown so far, with one hour to go in the day's coverage. I think there were something like a dozen-plus today overall.

The road race and time trial for cycling, no tickets required, just stand along the route. And there were who knows how many tens of thousands of spectators along the route for the men's road race earlier today.

Yes but the US didn't win Gold in those, so they didn't happen in NBC's eyes.

Very typical, sadly - I'm an Aussie living in the US and we usually have to watch Canadian TV or BBC to get any coverage of any Aussies in international sporting events (Olympics, the tennis Opens, etc).

Lots of it also depends on the teams involved. My Dad got the two of us into the men's gold medal indoor volleyball final in 1996 because it ended up being Italy and the Netherlands. We were planning on only being able to afford handball tickets but when the home and nearby countries get knocked out the street price can go down quick.

16 y.o girl just took gold in the 400IM and broke the world record. Amazing. When i was 16 I was still writing emo poetry and wearing too much eyeliner. Getting to school on time was my biggest challenge.

Better check the Chinese swimmers for something...two golds in swimming.

How does that work when the tests are made in China?

She was a little behind (heh, little behind) the WR mark with 100m to go. She ended up breaking the record by a full second. She closed that shiz OUT.

Yeah she did! Just amazing. I can't imagine being that young and that accomplished.

Oh, here's the gymnastics again... time to hold my breath. (I am so annoyed that the women have to prance around and dance to music while the guys just get to go out there and do their tumbling in silence.)

I remember years back they had this thing called Rock and Roll Gymnastics which was basically an all-star competition and the men could, and did, use music for their floor exercise routines and some looked much better going along to music than to silence.

I have a friend whose daughter is in gymnastics. She made it to nationals this year. They pay $600 a month JUST on her coach. Then there is the space rental, uniforms and all the travel....I will be stearing my kids away from gymnastics. I hear ping pong is fun.

So I just had to check on the handball, which is... totally not what we called handball when I was growing up (which was like playing squash with your hands and a tennis ball). Actual handball seems like basketball without the net, which seems like the... difficult part of basketball. I guess I need to watch more.

It's an also-ran sport, but I really like rhythmic gymnastics. Dancing with balls and paper streamers. It helps that the larger, more developed women go there after they outgrow the midget gymnastics that everyone loves.

I like that stuff, too. Ahaha, midget gymnastics. I gotta say, I am kinda disturbed by all the photos in this post of young gymnast ass. Dude, 16-year olds. I feel like we need some decent pictures of age-of-majority athletes to kinda cleanse the place.
