That's pretty good.

Funny. Sadly, modern audiences aren't into intellectually stimulating movies. Mainly just brain candy.

Nice, but not as good as Titanic Super 3D.

There are occasional classic sci-fi style releases from time to time. "Moon"
a few years back, for example.

But by and large you are right. The funny thing is, I used to go to movies constantly. Heck, back in high school and college I worked in a movie theatre for years; largely for the informal free movie reciprocity agreement every major theater in the county had with each other.

Nowadays I go to a movie maybe twice in a year. The last movie I saw was Prometheus, and the next will probably be the hobbit. Endless remakes and reboots simply don't interest me.

It's not just trailers now; if Hollywood had done the trailer for 2001 in 1968, it would have been just as bad in its own way, which is why Kubrick cut his own trailers and had approval on posters and all other promo material.

That cracks me up every single time I see it. I don't know what I like more...the Abrams lens flare or the Michael Bay-style explosions.

A lot of shiat was made back then, and plenty of good stuff is still made today. We just remember the good stuff from back then.

I meant to say "modern mass audiences." My brain is caramelized. Long day watching the kids while my wife is at work. It's just great to converse with some grown-ups for a few minutes.

I'm out. I did just pick up a bottle of Blanton's bourbon/rye blend today, though.

Saw this yesterday but was too lazy to submit it. Good work, subby!

Hey man, I know you live near me. Just bring that bottle to this convenient uptown drop point and I swear I won't embarrass you in front of your family. :P

That couldn't have been a Michael Bay trailer. Where was the slow-motion shot? Where was the constant dissolving in and out of black while that camera flash recharge whine-sound happens?

Whenever I hear or read something like this, I always add the unspoken corollary from the speaker or writer: "well, except for me, of course. I'm above them." You want to know why PG-13 summer blockbusters rule the roost? Because school's out for the summer. You're comparing your own watching habits to those of people who aren't even old enough to drive.

Only if you haven't seen the movie before.

It's technically beautiful and fully embodies the maddening boredom of actual space flight.

There are things in this world I don't need to know about.

Paintings are beautiful, but staring at one for two and a half hours is pretty boring.

I've heard there might be something out there called "Plan 2001 From Outer Space" if you want to see a similar concept expanded to feature length.

The book is both better and shorter. Seriously, read the book.

Never got the love for that movie, what a snore-fest.

Haha I didn't RTFWords

But I did find it easy enough on Youtube. What an awful trailer.

It also made me want to go check out the original Blade Runner trailer. God what a mess THAT was.

Oh, and speaking of Kubrick and the marketing of his films: When "A Clockwork Orange" first premiered, all of the ad copy AND the one-sheet just i.d.'d the films as "Stanley Kubrick's 'Clockwork Orange.'" So, where did the "A" come from (besides the full title of the Burgess novel what inspired the film?)

2012-07-28 11:25:19 PM
I'll admit, the trailer kind of made me want to go back and watch the film again.
And then I watched the original trailer and want to watch the film even more.

2001, a comfy couch and lots of coffee? It's a date.
(The film's great, but let's be honest, it does have soporific tendencies.)

I lulzd. Great parody.

I agree with an earlier poster. Used to go to the movies all the time. Nowadays, maybe once or twice a year. And no, it's not just the internet and movie downloading.
