I guess you get a pass on the Duke thing due to being awesome.

Heh. Even obscure bloggers know Duke sucks.

Unicorn, subby? If you're trying to imply she's one-of-a-kind then you've never heard of Felicia Day.

If that's not what you meant, then I apologize. I've not slept much today so I may be off my game a bit.

Oh! And the obligatory pic:

Taryn must be into cosplay in real big fashion.

Eh, cookie cutter. It's nice that she's into sci-fi, but y'know what? These days it's hip in Hollywood to be a geek. No real big advantage there.

Geek pandering.

Agreed. I mean, if she likes it, hey, I'm not gonna hate. But these days, "geek is chique". It is the in thing. It is marketable. Let's see if the same people who claim to like sci-fi, tech/gadgets and whatnot are still around in 10 years.

Does Felicia Day matter at all? I mean, does she actually contribute anything useful to the industry, besides retaining a geek persona?

What a hard-hitting interview. "In addition to being awesome and smart and super-sexy, you're also way too hard on yourself and you're really quite amazing. Comments?"

"Yes, you're still not going to get to sleep with me."

Day is a carbon copy of Munn. A very pretty face, but about as 'geek' as my mothers cat. She knows where the money is, and it's acting like a super-nerd to turn on all the super nerds. So no, I don't particularly consider either of them real nerds. Despite what the PR company and advertisements might want you to think.

This chick is pretty much the same. Pretty face, willing to do her research and act the nerd part, but it's really just a part. A role. A way to make money. It's not her lifestyle, any more than geeks live the lifestyle of fortune 500 porn star body builders.

I'm not really knocking it, if it makes her money the pretense is roughly as good as the actuallity, but somehow I doubt she goes home and dreams of Shadowrun adventures.

She was on The Inside back in 2005, which starred Rachel Nichols. Now she's doing Continuum, which stars Rachel Nichols. Those two must be close, with ties that bind.

I'm skeptical. I'll need photographic and video evidence. A lot, please.

BLAH BLAH BLAH, BLAH BLAH BLAH she's hot. BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Replace the "blahs" with anything and whatever it is will seems awesome because she's attractive.

Example: As an Olympic curler, she sweeps ice as god as any AND she's hot. She's almost won a medal several times.

I thought "unicorns" were cute single females who frequent the swinger circuit, looking for couples.

Or am I thinking of the wrong thing?

kroonermanblack: Day is a carbon copy of Munn.

Nope. Munn got her geek rep from reading a script for a geeky TV show despite not being all that interested in the material. Day produced, wrote, and starred in her own web series about WOW. That's a whole different level of nerd.

I look forward to more "woman who has hobbies" stories from your blog, which surely does not suck at all.

I went through and read her review of Prometheus to see how much she geeked out ... and she didn't really. I know Scalzi says that "anyone who wants to be a geek is one" - but I reckon obsessive behavior about sci-fi/fantasy pop culture is a better marker. Like some other blog I read about a chick who BURNED many of her previous Star Trek TNG uniforms because after the Blu-Ray of TNG came out she realized that she's using the wrong cranberry for the command uniforms. I saw that and thought "fark yeah, that's a geek!"

The suggestion that Felicia Day is not a geek is so ridiculous that it should be considered a troll.

I just heard a Wil Wheaton interview on the Jennisodes podcast where he basically said Day came to him to hammer out ideas for a possible web series, but she was the one who went to Google (who was looking to fund original web content for YouTube) to get the tech startup funding for what eventually became the TableTop series for Geek and Sundry channel.

She does legwork on the business end of things. If this is true, the she's not just a regular geek, she's an actual technopreneur.

Aboleth: TableTop

As someone who enjoys board games but has been out of it since the days of Space Crusade I'm rather glad she did that. TableTop's given me some really good pointers for good games; not sure on Fiasco though.

Meh, I still don't believe it, but whatever. I'm fine with my opinion, can't think of anything I've honestly seen her in (I think I saw an episode of the wow parody and it was 'all the guys want to bang the hot chick' schtick, so turned it off). Was she in Dr. Horrible, or was that someone else?

And knowing that a hot chick 'being super nerd' sells a lot of views isn't really that hard to compute.

She did the WoW parody, and Dr. Horrible, but she created the WoW parody, it wasn't "Hey, we'd like you to do a webshow with this", and has been a recurring guest on Eureka. She created and stars on a webchannel (Geek & Sundry) created specifically for nerd hobbies like gaming , wrote and starred in a short webseries based on Dragon Age Origins. You'll note that she created and writes for most if not all of her web ventures. You wouldn't see Munn doing any creating or writing. Day has more nerd cred than most of Fark.
