(Detroit Free Press)   Will Danica Patrick win her first NASCAR race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway? (No.) Will ESPN talk incessantly about the possibility while she runs in 18th? (Yes.) It's the inaugural Nationwide race from the Brickyard. 4 PM ET   (freep.com) divider line 107

On what lap will princess spin randomly across the track?

I read that as "who's lap" and got all fappy for a moment.

She qualified 20th. Only off by 2.

-------------------

Drinking game rules are simple, since it's a short race.

1) The words "Famed, historic, inaugural."

2) Mention of Danica Patrick outside the top 10.

3) The phrase "kiss the bricks."

the continual babble about her makes me mute the race until she takes herself out.

Just how many people are you trying to kill?

Ugh, I really wish they didn't move the Nationwide here. Their short track race was the NASCAR highlight of this week. I get that Indy is historic, but its just not for stock cars.

the biggest redneck here: Just how many people are you trying to kill?

Heh. I guess any one of those would work on their own.

NASCAR.com is now predicting green flag at 4:50 ET. Even with it being a short race in the central time zone, that's not too much time to spare if they get a red flag due to front stretch clusterfarks or a rain delay. The Grand-Am race was almost flooded out at some points yesterday.

Meh.. rain delays both here and the Red Sox -Yankees game.

Guess I'm still watching France-Best Korea womens soccer then.

Lap 10, when Travis Pastrana decides it's time to end his day as well.

How many more laps here does she have than the rest of the field combined?

2012-07-28 04:40:29 PM
No worry about rain today. No clouds for 300 miles. Hot and dry.
Go Ryan Blaney.

Probably less than Sam Hornish Jr.

The arca race yesterday was pretty good.

Seems like they could add a crowd electronically. Video toaster or something.

NASCAR's not taking the opportunity to biatch slap Kyle? Odd.

The Race Buddy chat has been all over NASCAR for that non-call.

ClavellBCMI: Did KyBu jump that start, or was I seeing things?

It looked like Kahne botched the start, but Kyle didn't even try to fix it. This reminds me of that situation with Smoke on the restart earlier this year. I'm seriously surprised the 54 isn't rolling down pit road right now.

More top quality officiating by NASCAR, I guess.

Why does espn have such a hardon for Danica? She won 1 race in Indy car

2012-07-28 05:00:59 PM
This looks like a practice session. All spread out, no people to speak of.
Ho hum.

All that crap on my teevee screen and no telemetry from the cars.
How fast are they averaging?

NASCAR needs redneck DRS. Just let the back spoiler flap down like Mikey's during that Daytona truck race.

2012-07-28 05:10:01 PM
There are just little colonies of fans spread out in different little wads all over the stands.

Also, there's a story on NASCAR.com about how Danica may run a partial schedule in Nationwide next year, because no matter what she's making the move to full time Cup in 2013. Kinda seems like they're jumping the gun a bit.

2012-07-28 05:10:22 PM
Wake me up when Danica gets wrecked...

2012-07-28 05:11:24 PM
From the Indystar site:
10 laps update

Patrick's getting word her laps are around 54 seconds, and the cars around her are running them in at 53.5 seconds.

Agreed, she needs about 2 more seasons in Nationwide before she moves up to Cup full-time, just to let the novelty wear off.

We can actually answer that question with this info, since ESPN sucks ass:

Track is 2.5 miles. So that means the people running around Danica are averaging 168 and change, while she's averaging 166 or so.

Conspiracy theory time: they're trying to destroy Danica's driver credibility entirely so they can write off 'women drivers' and ignore the issue for another decade or two.

Or they're just trying to make as much $$$ off of her as fast as possible. Or both.

Biggest mistake of her career / life, and I can only hope she's getting well paid to be a backmarker in NASCAR's 2nd tier series, when she in all likelyhood could have been a top-10 runner with Andretti Autosports this year.

Who had Lap 39? Lap 39, collect your winnings.

Well we had a Danica wreck and a Kurt Swear-a-thon.. what are we still missing?

Well, that just answered the question.

2012-07-28 05:36:56 PM
i just saw this post a few minutes ago and i found espn on tv just in time to see the slo-mo shot of the go-daddy car burning to a stop

Pastrana barely managed to miss that wreck. He still has to be taken out. Kyle also has to have something happen so he can charge through the field. Sadler has to have championship sabotaging luck, since he won recently.

2012-07-28 05:39:08 PM
They should make her go out there and clean up the mess.
