My 8 year old girl can hit soda cans with her little BB gun at a few yards, I'm sure she could probably do the same with a little .22 if I we took her to the range. Im sure she'll be after the pistols in a few years, she's into all the rugged stuff. Ill make sure she's comfortable with a .45 before I let her leave the nest, but I imagine she'll be good at 100 yards before then.

If someone comes up from behind you and grabs you, how easily do you think you can pull a gun out? If you are at close range, and you hesitate with a self-defense weapon, it allows your attacker to grab it and use it against you, and if they're already attacking you, they probably won't hesitate to use it. That is, assuming they don't have a better weapon.

What's more, in close situations like these, non-lethal weapons are just as useful. You need to disable, not kill. You are not the executioner.

Took my wife and two daughters (ages 8 and 11) to the range this morning. They had a lot of fun with the Marlin .22 rifle and the .22 Buckmark pistol. My wife and kids WILL understand how to use guns, and as soon as my daughters are old enough, will have their own carry pieces and CHL.

Got my wife to shoot the AR-15 (in .223) today for the first time, she was really scared of it at first, but after 10 rounds, wanted to shoot it some more.

It's a piston driven airgun. They don't kick towards you they kick away from you since the spring surges forward pushing compressed air through the barrel. I own a high powered one and speak from experience. That's why you can't use a regular rifle scope on them because their impact on the crosshairs is in the opposite direction ruining your expensive firearm scope. It's impossible to get "scoped" meaning you get hit around the eye from the scope hitting you in the face from the recoil of the gun.

I'm interested to see the social ramifications. I would hope that more widespread use of guns by women would result in the understanding that you don't use ANY weapon on ANYONE unless you MEAN to no matter WHO you are, man or woman.

You know how I know you've never fired an RWS-54? My brother let his Canadian friend shoot mine once while I wasn't around. I came home and the kid looked like he got punched by a boxer wearing a diamond ring. The shooter doesn't feel any recoil, unless his eye is too close to the scope. That pellet gun is a beast on scopes too. It wants to rip the glass right out of the tube.
