I think it's perfectly acceptable to shoot a couple people at the Red Line Clark/Division stop to get on the L. It's that or we will have to submit to the Japanese solution:

It's a good thing Chicago doesn't adhere to ChicFilA's morality, otherwise ther would be folks getting shot every other day.

Yes, because only the criminals follow the no-gun laws.

I stopped when I saw the term "not gang related"

Yeah, I know what you're getting at, but you're doing it wrong. The sheer majority of violent crime is between people with some sort of relationship. Rival gangs is only one of many. Domesitic violence. Drug deals gone bad is one of the biggest. Etc. Etc.

No violence or killings are cool with me. But as someone who lives in "one of the most violent cities" I understand that the fact that I avoid a lot of bad situations, I'm probably just as safe as when I lived in the white-picket-fence suburbs of Chicago.

I know what areas to avoid, especially at night. Seriously, if you take the most hardened, angry criminals from New Orleans... none of them want anything from me.

Wow Chicago is worse than this.

(AP) LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A chaotic shooting scene that had curious crowds running for cover in a crime-ridden area of Louisville left three people dead and three others hospitalized Thursday.

The scene unfolded about 1 p.m. EDT when two men were killed and two wounded in a shooting that attracted dozens of onlookers anxious for answers in the Russell neighborhood dotted with boarded-up houses. As police were investigating and a host of media gathered nearby, shots rang out about four houses down.

Two women had been arguing and one shot and killed the other, police said. The startled crowds ran for safety and officers with guns drawn headed down the street toward the shots.

I've also lived in a pretty rough part of a major city. I never felt like I was in danger. Some blocks you just stayed away from at night, but that was about it. You'd always here about murders and aggravated batteries in the area, but the victims were almost always gang members or drug dealers.

Still, I'd rather live in Chicago with bullets flying around my head than whatever shiatburb or backwoods cornhole factory you live in.

Yeah, my daddy was a cop on the east side of Chicago. Back in the USA, back in the bad old days.
In the heat of a summer night, in the land of the dollar bill. When the town of Chicago died and they talk about it still. When a man named Al Capone tried to make that town his own. And he called his gang to war with the forces of the law. I heard my mama cry, I heard her pray the night Chicago died. Brother what a night it really was. Brother what a fight it really was. Glory be.

Nothing that universal open carry of firearms can't fix.

Interesting that Chicago and IL are one of those places with very strict gun control. Interesting, the criminals don't seem so worried about that.

You realize that gun laws were just significantly loosened by the Heller decision, right? Gun laws in general have little to no real effect on crime.

It's the same principle as dry counties: sure, you can't get loaded in your neighborhood, but as long as the goods are within driving distance you won't go deprived.

Let's try a national handgun ban and see how fast shootings drop.

It's only exceptionally dangerous in one part of town. Think bad, bad Leroy Brown. But if you're not pissing anyone off, it's not even that dangerous there.

On my trauma rotation in med school, I worked 2 saturday nights on call at Sinai Hospital. Both times we had multiple (5 and 8) shooting events. I never so much as got a bad word, much less shot at, in years of working in that area, because I didn't go looking for trouble, drugs, or EtOH.

/myob. Don't join the culture. You'll be fine.

Be sure to include shootings by police in those statistics, and I think those numbers would not drop.

Registration -> Confiscation -> Genocide

It's happened before and will likely happen again, because of foolishness like you espoused just now.

" Through media reports, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, a nonprofit lobbying group, has compiled a list of 431 shootings with more than one victim since 2005."

Through media reports and only shootings involving more than one victim? No wonder on their map of Massachusetts looks like paradise and New Bedford, Roxbury and Springfield has minimal shootings. Hell, because of the way they are finding their data results, they leave off Boston's South End, Southie, Dorchester, Mattapan/Murderpan, Lawrence, Lowell, etc. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence has done a disservice to only focus on shootings with multiple victims when you could have a bunch of shootings with one victim like a lot of MA cities have.
