2012-07-27 08:56:41 PM

DamnYankees: Ireland is probably feeling pretty dumb right now for not joining the UK. Am I right or am I right? I mean, come on!

Well, no. We're getting to watch this cool shiat live and not pay for it. Works pretty well for us!

2012-07-27 08:56:43 PM

Tor_Eckman: I fully expected this Olympics to be inundated with shiatty political ads.

So far I am pleasantly surprised.

MObama and Romney still to come.

I'm in Missouri, which is a battleground state with a GOP primairy next week. My local TV station is carpetboming me with tons of cheesy political ads to more than make up for the lack of them on the national level.

2012-07-27 08:56:55 PM
Dear Lord in Heaven, NBC is awful.

2012-07-27 08:56:58 PM

Steve Jobs shows up?

2012-07-27 08:57:03 PM
Ok, with Potter, and Bean, I was ok with minimal video, but that was ridiculous.

2012-07-27 08:57:16 PM
i think i'm going to just tweet at NBC the rest of the night about how much this sucks. And lurk in here for hot athletic women

2012-07-27 08:57:21 PM
They paying tribute to Tim Berners-Lee.

Paying tribute to the creator of the World Wide Web = AWESOME!

2012-07-27 08:57:22 PM

DamnYankees: Oh, you haven't heard of Tim Berners Lee, Meredith? You're an ignoramus.

Yeah LOL'd at that one too. Almost as if they're playing to the lowest common denominator.

2012-07-27 08:57:26 PM
And of course NBC believes that nobody has the faintest clue who Tim Berners-Lee is.

2012-07-27 08:57:33 PM
Are they projecting the video bits on huge screens? An homage to social media? The hell?

2012-07-27 08:57:35 PM
And now for the social detachment part of the ceremony?

2012-07-27 08:57:38 PM
Why are the characters in this skit speaking in American accents?

2012-07-27 08:57:39 PM
Is this an ad for a television show? I don't understand.

2012-07-27 08:57:53 PM

Mine looks like a regular Cape Cod, but I do host the occasional monster truck rally.

Snape killed Rickman.

2012-07-27 08:58:23 PM
Worst opening ceremony I've ever seen.

Wow-bad, not just bad.

It started out okay, but it's gotten super ghetto, super fast.

2012-07-27 08:58:27 PM
I think I'm on the wrong channel. What channel is the olympic opening ceremonies on guys?

2012-07-27 08:58:29 PM

seventypercent: Burchill: I've known some wonderful American people. But then I come on FARK and remember that most of you are total kuntybollocks. No offence.

rcf1105: Is this an ad for a television show? I don't understand.

You have to be young to get it.

Or something.

2012-07-27 08:58:44 PM

Favoritemonster: OK, the whole NHS thingy? lame....

The NHS has vastly improved the health and lives of tens of millions of people.

I was hoping for a crew of young torchbearers to form a 'fark the Tories' shape, but I'll settle for GOSH.

LlamaGirl: WHERE IS ALAN RICKMAN

In my bed, sorry.

It's not all about you, FFS.

2012-07-27 08:59:13 PM

midpoint: paj: Showing an Irishman scoring a rugby try as a representative for Northern Ireland was a bit odd, might make a few people a wee bit mad.

Ireland plays rugby union as a united nation. Football is North and South though.

Yeah, that's why we use "A Country's Call" as the team song instead of the national anthem.

2012-07-27 08:59:18 PM
Hate to say it, but I think I actually do need the NBC commentary to tell what's supposed to be going on in this one.

2012-07-27 08:59:21 PM
Well, I guess if you have to follow China, you might as well completely botch it up. Kinda like a pallet cleanse.

2012-07-27 08:59:26 PM

Shirley Ujest: Am i hearing the Proclaimers?

I would walk 500 miles to smack Matt and Meredith.

2012-07-27 08:59:27 PM

DamnYankees: ScreamingHangover: Greta_VanHouten: I am so grateful for my British VPN. I just watched this live on BBC 1. No commercials, no interruptions and no stupid commentary. I am watching this again on NBC for comparison and I'll bet you anything meredith viera & matt lauer talk over the musical piece, completely spoiling it.

I will never forgive CBS for the Nagano Olympics coverage.

The opening ceremony had a live satellite feed of 7 orchestras and chorals simultaneously playing Beethoven's 9th.

CBS didn't even bother to get a fee directly from the satellite: they only had a microphone recording from inside the stadium (complete with echo). Not only that, but they got bored after less than a minute, starting yapping about random crap and went off to interview Michelle Kwan.

Here's what the rest of the world saw while the CBS announcers were interviewing Kwan for the umpteenth time

Euro music is for losers.

jimboeth.com

I woke up. The pain and sickness all over me like an animal. Then I realized what it was. The music coming up from the floor was our old friend, Ludwig Van, and the dreaded Ninth Symphony.

2012-07-27 08:59:37 PM
I have no clue what I am watching. I thought the Queen was cute but where is Doctor Who or Queen?

2012-07-27 08:59:49 PM
Christ, I hate "Wonderful Tonight."

2012-07-27 08:59:50 PM
And now a boy meets girl segment

2012-07-27 08:59:56 PM
Clapton is British??

2012-07-27 09:00:04 PM
Alan Rickman had a prior engagement counting his piles of cash from being in 7 harry potter movies and Die Hard.

dustman81: They paying tribute to Tim Berners-Lee.

Oh, the British Al Gore.

2012-07-27 09:00:07 PM
Wonderful Tonight is the worst Clapton song of all time.

OF ALL TIME.
