stoli n coke: Should people be offended because it referenced the Aurora shootings or because it wasn't funny?

Because it was Dane Cook. The other two don't really matter.

ElusiveWookiee: This was the first thing I thought of when I heard about the shooting, and I wasn't proud:

"This is the worst thing to happen to a Batman movie since Joel Schumacher."

Mine was about the mental image of 100 guys dressed as various versions of Batman running away wetting themselves. But I like yours

The crowd's response was a mix of groans, laughter and cheers.

Is it the laughter or the cheers that's new?

FirstNationalBastard: I don't hate Dane Cook for making Aurora jokes. Hell, I respect him for it.

I hate Dane Cook for being an unfunny hack.

This. As Penn and Teller put it, life goes on, and he's supposedly a comedian, so he did what he does, make bad jokes.

He's also an unfunny hack. Funny to frat boys and jocks that are closet-cases with their bro-crushes, and women who like that closeted frat boy / jock thing. (IE the shallowest people on the planet). The type of people that laugh because they think they're supposed to, not because of humor or cleverness, of which there is none.

Not an intelligent thing in his act. That he's rich and famous(good for him btw), is a sign of the dumbing down of our society. Making fun of him is directly commenting on his fans, not so much him, i've only ever seen his act, it's possible he's a swell guy.

Good for him that he can make a nickel off that, I AM jealous of the money, as i am any filthy rich person. The thing is, most people earn it through skill. Sure, maybe there's a silver spoon to start, but they themselves turned it into a gold one.

Dane Cook is more akin to a carny scammer or tonic selling huckster, or for that matter, the clergy. Good showmanship, for having no real material or product. If he were really shady, he'd be a cult leader. His charisma is his only real selling point.
