I'm sure he falls to his knees every day and thanks the sweet Lord above that brave legislators have worked tirelessly to protect him from the evils of socialized medical care.

I do believe I donated to his cause when it first happened. I'm glad he's alive, being a hero in that situation usually doesn't end well.

This is important. Was she?

Also, did she thank him appropriately regardless?

I've been to that bar once. It's basically a dive, but they sell strong ass beer that makes you violent.

walking her home from a mugger was his first mistake.
he should've just walked her home from the bar & skipped going to the mugger altogether

What's a mugger, and how does one walk home from it?

The Free Market at work people! If you can't afford medical care, then get out there and beg!

Figured someone would make a f*cking political thing out of it in the first f*cking post.

That's what he gets for trying to be Mr. White Knight. He should have gotten a real job with health benefits, and now his irresponsibility is coming back to haunt him. Have fun trying to pay off your bills for the rest of your life. Maybe it's the wake-up call he needs that it's finally time to stop screwing around and get a real career.

Because they can be?

The man who stabbed Boone was arrested and charged with assault with intent to kill. He later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and is scheduled for a September sentencing.

According to Boone, the man has a lengthy criminal record.

If the guy has a "lengthy" record, he shouldn't have been able to plead down, particularly if the guy left hard evidence at the crime scene. Either the US attorney or MPD farked this up or there is something else going on.

I don't see why they try making the Aurora shooting about gun control. It should be about healthcare. Fact is simple bad luck or being in the wrong place can ruin your life and bankrupt you. That isn't right and we as a country can do something about it and should be obligated to do it.

criminal, then civil trial to sue for money. OJ got sued for money. as for normal people, im going to guess that the criminals property is siezed by the cops, sold at an auction and is used to buy more donuts.

They're criminals, which usually means they don't HAVE any money. I'm personally about to sue the jackhole who rear-ended and totaled my car, but I don't have much faith that he has the $3,000 I need to pay off the rest of the replacement vehicle. Muggers are even less likely to have it, I would think.

No; choosing to be irresponsible and not having health insurance can bankrupt you. It's part of being a responsible adult to prepare yourself for the unexpected. I know, I know...this requires responsibility, a foreign concept to a lot of people. If you're an adult and you choose to gamble by not having health insurance, then it's your fault when you get hit with a $60k bill since you wanted to dick around instead of getting a real job with benefits.

We can be both. There will always be worthy charities. But we don't have to have situations like this, where private citizens have to beg for money to pay healthcare bills or face bankruptcy. And not all of them have cool attention-getting stories like fighting off a mugger to protect someone else. Some of them just got cancer or were born with a defective heart valve.

Yes, because those are growing on trees, for everyone and their brother to pluck.

Wow. you're sort of an out-of-touch asshole, aren't you?

Check this CSB out...
I've had medical insurance for most of my life. I was laid off from my job, it took me three months to find a new one. During two of those three months I had to go without medical insurance. Those were the only two months of my life that I didn't have medical coverage.
...and my appendix ruptured. $11,000 in medical bills and no money to pay for them.
How *Irresponsible* of me!

They're available to people who are willing to work hard and make something of themselves. Those of you who are only qualified to work at McDonalds or at a bar reap what you sow, and I don't feel bad for you because of the consequences of your life choices. If you want to be working a shiatty job at a bar and trying to get laid by walking girls home that's fine, but I'm not going to feel bad for you when something like this happens and you're not in a position to recover as well as those of us who have actually rolled up our sleeves and worked hard to make something of ourselves in society.

Did he pay taxes on all that money he's gotten from these fundraisers? And does he have a permit for the fundraiser tonight? It would be funny to call DC police and see if he has a permit and get it shut down if he doesn't.

That's not what I said at all. I said that if he's a middle age bartender he's obviously never made anything of himself, and he has to take the consequences based on that.
