I see the illegal immigration as a symptom of a poorly run and managed immigration system. If it immigration were handled right to being with, there would be far less illegal immigration. Making people jump through hoops for 10 years to gain citizenship only encourages people to buck the system.

Obama: Hey guys, we have this amnesty thing... you see if you meet these conditions we won't deport you.

Enforcement Officials: So we can ask them to provide proof they meet those conditions, right?

Obama: Hahaha, hell no, that would be racist.

Enforcement Officials: ....

Illegal Alien (Fingers Crossed): Hey copper, I meet the requirements! Release me

Seriously, there was no condition to provide proof of residency or degree? That's the way DHS is handling this backdoor amnesty? Sounds like a brilliant plan. Anything else we can do to make life easier for illegals? Between this and California choosing not to tow the cars of illegals but do tow the cars of citizens...

ICE and DEA are America's Gestapo. they are protecting their jobs because they know relaxed immigration policies will cost jobs (which I'm ok with) ALSO - Border patrol eats what it captures - cash, drugs, property - they keep what they catch.

Here is an article saying the same thing http://news.yahoo.com/immigrants-don-t-prove-meet-dream-act-criteria-0 45005567.html But I'm still partially doubting these guys claims. Obvious if you catch someone crossing the border they can't say they qualify under the DREAM act without substantial proof. If you catch them in the middle of the country having lived here for a long time, you don't immediately send them to Mexico without investigation. I'm guessing the orders are an issue of burden of proof being placed on ICE to prove they aren't and the burden to take your time and investigate. But its hard to know without hearing the other side of the story.

I think that's one of those "repeal and replace" things. His statement is that he would work towards a permanent solution, but he's been pretty consistent on dodging the question of whether he would reverse the current executive order while working on that new legislation.

You can actually see the mental 404 error.

Obama deported more illegals than any recent administration. Amnesty or whatever you want to call it does not apply to people who commit crimes in the US (outside of that crime of sneaking into the country of course)

Yes deportations are way up. Specifically criminal deportations. If an illegal immigrant commits a crime they get fast tracked for deportation.

It's getting to the point where as soon as I hear someone with a southern accent in the media I expect something idiotic, borderline racist, or mindless repetition of talk radio propaganda. I'm fighting like hell to keep an open mind but my brain is making the connection between the accent and idiocy just from sheer unrelenting repetition.

illegal immigration is cool if you like the idea of a large workforce of second class people that can be treated poorly and paid even worse. IMO they should try as hard as possible to keep people from illegally entering the country but if they get in they should just be given worker protections and access to social services and not hassled papers please style.

It's right up there with "If you tax the job creators, they'll stop creating jobs!" BS. Or "Obama's going to take away your guns! We really, really mean it this time!" It's making me lose all hope for for this country. I mean, I thought the purple heart bandaids were bad. That was stupid, but this shiat? It's so willfully ignorant that it's painful.

And that's assuming that there is any path towards citizenship for a prospective immigrant at all. Take your stereotypical illegal immigrant: Mexican national with little to no education, no skills, and works primarily as day laborer or farmhand. How does such a man go about immigrating legally into this country? What is the process he goes through, what kind of time does it take?

The answer: He applies for 1 of the 10,000 unskilled worker green cards handed out each year. Or one for him, one for the wife, and one for each kid. And even that 10,000 aren't all given out - 2010 saw only 4,762 given out under that category. For shiat's sake, Cracked.com even did an article on how hard it is to immigrate into the US.

So if Jose Doez wants to risk his family on a hundred mile trek across desert or a nice long ride in a unairconditioned trailer to give them a better life, then I say welcome aboard. The worry that he'll never 'integrate' into our society is pure bullshiat. He's a man who so loves this country that he risked the lives of all his loved ones just to get in. All I had to do was be lucky enough to rappel down an umbilical cord out of the right crotch.

I wish the would let even more immigrants in. If you've traveled the world at all, you know that people flocking over a border from a poorer country to a richer one by whatever means necessary for a better life is pretty much a world wide phenomenon. In all, Americans should be quite thankful for immigrants communities as benevolent and pleasant as the Mexican immigrants. We certainly could have done a lot worse. Living in Central Texas, I enjoy their contributions. They're hard workers, peaceful, family oriented, generally don't instigate problems and bring a great food heritage to an otherwise barren and soulless American indigenous food culture (when you've been colonized by both the Spanish and the French, you're going to know your food). They're certainly more well behaved than the anglo settlers that settled in Mexican territories in the 18th and 19th Centuries (particularly the trailer trash and slave traders that colonized Texas). True, there is the fall out drug wars in the border cities, but America has only themselves to blame for creating that situation with a combination of insatiable appetitie for drugs and still tightly clinging to obviously failed and Draconian thoughts on legislating drugs. They could end Mexican drug cartels tommorrow.

As far as "dey dun takun meh jobs", well let's just say that if you have so few marketable skill sets on your resume that someone who doesn't speak the indiginous language and has had very little schooling can do your job, then you're just suffering from the consequences of some really poor life decisions.

NO. These guys are claiming they had someone in custody for criminal activity and they had to let them go because they supposedly qualified under the new directive. It's total horse shiat. One of the first things to fast track an illegal immigrant for deportation is criminal activity.

I work in immigration, so I'm getting a kick, etc. etc.

Don't give me the "OMG, some of these illegals do bad things!" argument, because it's bullshiat. PEOPLE do bad things. Some of them are illegal, some of them are not. The dangerous ones are put into deportation proceedings (and plenty of the non-dangerous ones as well). Many are sent right back if they're caught in the process of entering.

I deal with "illegals" every day. A handful are douchebags who were fortunate enough to have gone through the criminal justice system before ICE/DHS updated their systems and coordinated more closely with law enforcement, so they flew under the radar. They were lucky enough to fly under the radar, but these days, ICE/DHS is pretty much on their game and can easily be notified in order to get a "hold" placed on the person before they're released from custody (so they're released to ICE/DHS instead of the street).

That being said, the VAST majority of "illegals" I speak with are just hardworking people who pay their taxes, are deeply involved in their local churches, and hardly have the time or energy to do much of anything after work than go home and spend some time with their family before getting some sleep and doing it all over again the next day. Some even have businesses and are homeowners.

Stop demonizing an entire group of people because a handful are dangerous.

DREAM is an expansion of prosecutorial discretion.
Criminal Ineligibility: If you have been convicted of a felony, a serious misdemeanor or three minor misdemeanors not all stemming from same incident, then you are not eligible [to be a DREAMer].

No, the problem was that the police turned them over to ICE as they are supposed to because deporting is supposed to be easier than a criminal trial and incarceration. ICE, not having authority to conduct criminal investigations beyond immigration issues released the man for being "A Dreamer".

The only solution to this is to no longer turn illegals over to ICE.

You know, I'm of the opinion that if the Republican Party weren't so overtly pandering to racists and xenophobes, they could easily capture the black and Latino vote. They're some of the most Christian people in this country, and a lot of them would probably love to vote for an anti-abortion, anti-gay candidate, if those candidates didn't also blame them for all the country's ills.
