After the worldwide success of the similatly themed ...

Are proofreaders paid $50,000 a minute? Is that why nobody hires them?

Yes this is a good idea, because Hunger Games did so well..

I am sad to say that I saw Hunger Games before seeing Battle Royale, and I feel bad.

Personally the one part of Battle Royale that stuck with me the most was the eyes of the little girl who had won the battle royale in the beginning of the movie....so creepy.

This would work great, If it was going on HBO. All they have to do is adapt the Manga and wait for the lamentations of a Million Mom's. Otherwise it will be just a Hunger Games rip off, which pretty much sucked anyway. At least I wasn't impressed, I prefer Battle Royale's ability to give each character a character beyond simply a body count.

Just like every other time anyone's tried this it will be sanitized and toned down to the point where instead of high school kids killing each other it will be 25 year old college students playing a really intense game of laser tag.

I dunno why everyone fixates on it being kids doing something like this.

This was a true classic of cinema.

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic . . . it seems like an odd comment, as Hunger Games did do very well.

Exactly. The film was already a bit toned down from the book, not to mention a few story tweaks. Hollywood needs to back the fark off.

After hearing such good things about Battle Royale, I watched the BluRay version and was quite underwhelmed. Not to threadjack, but has anyone seen The Raid: Redemption? It's about to be release on dvd and was wondering if it was worth watching.

And oddly, executive meddling made the theatrical release more violent than the director's cut, as the director wanted the character's age group to be able to see it and learn something about the human mind etc., but the producers wanted more gore to sell.

I don't know if this should happen.

I do know that I would love one of Noriko's cookies from the final scene of Battle Royale. They must have been pretty good.

I will grant you that, but Ice-T AND Christopher Lambert? I'm all for indie arthouse flicks like yours, but Mean Guns was a true hollywood production with an ensemble cast.

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!

Seriously though, it's f*cking incredible. Get some friends together and enjoy the hell out of it.

oh great, its on the CW. So product placement every scene, cringe inducing dialogue, clichés, and plots that never get resolved. Not too mention an entire season moving towards a mega build up that gets watered down in the last episode because they have no budget thanks to spending it all on horrid hipster music they just had to have to close each episode with.

It's a lot like Tony Jaa's movies. Thin on plot, heavy on martial arts action that looks really brutal and painful. If that's your thing, The Raid is definitely worth watching.

"was finally released on US soil earlier this year by Anchor Bay. It had previously been thought that it would never be released"

These people are idiots I guess, because Netflix had this in 2005.

Mean Guns is a fantastic movie.

They already did that - called it Hunger Games. Perhaps you've heard of the plot-stealing badly written drek that was turned into a mediocre teeny-bopper film? Yeah - it's really a Japanese novel from 1999 and film from 2000.

The cult Japanese classic, originally released in 2000, adapted from the book of the same name written a year earlier by Koushun Takami, was finally released on US soil earlier this year by Anchor Bay

Huh, hadn't heard. Good movie. Maybe I'll pick up a legitimate copy.

On the bright side, you both know where not to get movie recommendations.

Jaws_Victim: This would work great, If it was going on HBO. All they have to do is adapt the Manga and wait for the lamentations of a Million Mom's.

The manga did not follow the book. Well it did, but it also inserted a whole lot more sex (including rape) that was never in the book. In the book Kitano did not turn up at the boys' home and rape their "mother " for example. Mitsuko never drove a wrestler to suicide by having sex with him (really!?). I don't remember if the manga actually covered Mitsuko's real story (her mother sold her to three men to rape, and they did repeatedly to the point she had to hospitalised, and then when her teacher found out he raped her too). I don't imagine that's ever making it to film.

Mitsuko"s father died, and she was taken in by a sadistic pedophile who severely farked her up. He died somehow, leaving her to go on a foster home circuit where she would bed men and either kill them or call the police to report them. She even got involved with yakuza and got one of them arrested.

Thats why i said adaptation

Battle Royale is OK, definitely overhyped, but also definitely not "ultra-violent". It's fairly violent.

Yes, actually the teacher assigned to oversee the program DID rape the woman who ran the orphanage that Nanahara and Yoshi were at. There's no chapter specifically dealing with the scene, but it IS specifically stated.
