MaxxLarge: Big deal. One of the most popular restaurants here in Minneapolis serves guinea pig. And you have to call and order it in advance.

You can get FDA approval for exotic meats, it's not necessarily easy but if you're raising them farm-style or getting them from an evaluated source it's not necessarily hard either. More of a dropped ball than anything innately terrible, really.

Wow, I eat there - a lot. Love the pork sandwiches. I don't care for boba tea, but I love the Vietnamese iced-coffee. They also make a small selection of other dishes, like bun.

I'm hoping this is a disgruntled employee, customer or competitor. Last time I was in there, a weird man with a balloon kept walking in and arguing with the owner in Vietnamese. He seemed off.

Now I want a sandwich. May have to stop by tomorrow.

MaxxLarge: ZAZ: They weren't closed for cooking rats. They were cited for, among other things, having rat droppings where they didn't belong.

So, where is an acceptable place to store rat $#!+ at a restaurant, then?

Well, the human-shiat goes in the toilet; I imagine rat-shiat would go in some kind of disposal receptacle. (Better than the fish/lobster tanks, where the fish just swim in it for a while.)

The story says "A complaint filed with the state alleges..." -- and that's probably 100% true: a complaint really was filed, and it does allege what was stated.

FTA it looks like the rats were being cooked up behind the restaurant for the personal consumption of the staff. I don't have a problem with that. Really, I don't care if they cooked rates in the kitchen for the staff, or even for customers as long as it was disclosed what the meat was. If you want to serve rat, and people are willing to pay for it, serve rat. Just don't serve rat and call it pork.

As far as the health code violations, it seems like a lot of those are pretty silly. You can't store food or equipment on the floor? What if the food is in a box, or the equipment is washed before it's used? Temperature violations, but by how much? Was the walk in a degree or two too warm? If the turn around is fast enough there won't enough of a chance for bacteria to grow to be harmful.

As long as the food isn't making people sick, who the fark cares.

on the last sunday of every month your uncle fred likes to bring home a big bucket of KFC original recipe rat with a couple of nice sides. god forbid he ever shared a mouthful, the glutton. at least your aunt got him to stop noshing on a few rat on the way home. he'd throw the bones right in the back and leave them there for her to clean out. boy would that piss her off. took her some 5 years to beak him of that, it did.

Okay; so they had a questionable health inspection due to rat droppings in June... and now the staff are killing and cooking rats outside the restaurant (apparently for themselves)?

Sounds like problem solved.

I shop at the Oriental grocery there myself, either that same strip mall or the next one over - IIRC all those businesses in the two side-by-side strip malls are owned by the same family anyway. They have pretty decent vegetables, and spices and sauces you can't find at Publix or Sweetbay, and hubby likes some of the weird varieties of ramen to take to work for lunches.

Honestly, they probably got into a spat with somebody who anonymously filed a complaint out of spite, whether from their own community or one of the other businesses in the area.
