Not aimed at African-Americans. Aimed at moderates who aren't too wild about racism.

Cletus C.: A positive ad with a positive message.

Straight to hell with that guy.

Well, I wouldn't say that it was a positive ad with a positive message. Why? The success of the ad requires the viewer to be stupid but masochistic. With a short memory. And the unwillingness to watch any non-Fox news.

What the hell was up with that music. When I think of either Wilford Romney or the NAACP, I do not think of that music.

/and yet if Obama aired a video of him speaking at an NAACP event Republicans would claim he was playing the race card

I have a feeling that this ad isn't meant to persuade black voters to vote for Romney.

It functions more as a way for Romney voters to feel as though they aren't racists.

And it doesn't work very well, really.

You do know Joe Biden's a lifetime member of the NAACP (and was received a hell of a lot better than Romney), right? Lots of white guys in the NAACP.

Black guy here. I'm going to give Romney the benefit of the doubt on this one. Whatever his motivation was for releasing this ad (appeasing moderates or courting black voters), it's refreshing to see that a republican nominee hasn't completely written off an entire voting bloc like they usually do.

Will this ad persuade more black people to vote for Romney? Doubtful, because most blacks are solidly democrat. But if the GOP is ever going to make any inroads with black voters, it has to start somewhere. And ads like this (as well as his speech to the NAACP) shows that he's at least willing to try. I applaud him for that, even if I disagree with his politics (which I do).

The reality is...there are a lot of black people who are receptive to some conservative values (both social and fiscal). But republicans rarely try to appeal to black voters, particularly young black voters (who are not as tethered to the democrats as older generations were). If more republicans tried to find common ground with black voters, maybe those lopsided electoral percentages might shift over time. And I say that's a good thing, even as a liberal. The democrats should not be the only game in town for black voters, just like the GOP shouldn't be the only option for evangelicals.

/probably wishful thinking, I know

"You, Mr. Swing Voter, can ditch your concerns that we're systematically opposed to black people at every turn. Why, just recently they applauded when the GOP coordinated a multi-state effort to disenfranchise black voters in order to help me win this election, which is the first election to ever have systemic voter fraud that needed to be addressed! Black people love us, so go cast that vote without guilt!"

I know. Romney lied to the VFW the other day, saying the upcoming sequestration cuts in defense, Medicare, and Social Security were President Obama's fault when it's actually Congress' inability to act. And I blame the GOP for blocking Congress by not increasing taxes on the rich, trying to go with deep cuts in Medicare and Social Security only.
