Are you kidding me? I'd play for Mandy Moore. Getting paid to play music full time is better than working a shiat job while playing bars.

As a metal guitar enthusiast, let me say it is common knowledge a lot of fine shredders make a living as session guitarists for pop tarts. I forget the name, but Pink's guitarist is a Bogner endorser, and I saw some clips of him doing a quick demo on an Uberschall, and the dude was phenomenal. Marty Friedman has done a lot of session work for Japanese pop stars.

also, from what I hear, touring with one of those Disney operations is really good experience in terms of learning the right way of putting on a live show.

It is TOUGH trying to make a living as a musician. If you are trying to be a full time working musician, there is no dishonor in taking a paying gig. Especially one with a touring national act.

I think he sums it up quite nicely:

"Every situation, whether it's your favorite situation or not, there's something to be learned," he explained. "The (Moore gig) taught me a lot: There were rules, you had to be on time, you had to be prepared, you had to be focused, you had to be responsible. It taught me discipline and how to work in that environment. I'm very grateful to have the history that I have. Some people think it's not cool, but that's OK. I had the option to do roof tiling and all that stuff. I just didn't want to."

Go on tour, make $$ playing your instrument (albeit for cheesy music), a bunch of screaming girls vs. being a roofer.

Option 1 is a no brainer

Hey! Mandy Moore has a 'hard' side!

She's definitely got the most talent of all the pop tarts of her generation.

Well look at it this way, Mandy Moore actually had talent and had a real band to back her up in concert.

Ah, Eville - I love how my hometown only ever makes a Fark greenlight for the most inspid things. Also, Mandy Moore - dear God how I would love to give her the most disappointing 5 minutes of her life.

I'm not sure why all of you are so surprised. She's married to Ryan Adams, and he put out this spectacular piece of metal. Or spectacular piece of something.

It's part of the contract. If you take their music, you also have to take their look.

It's already been said, but this is really common. Josh Freese is the drummer for APC, the Vandals and Devo. Here is the list of albums he's performed on. A few cherry picked artists: Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne, Static X, Daughtry, Rob Zombie, Miley Cyrus... You really get around as a session musician, especially if you're in demand and have a decent professional reputation.

Mandy Moore is the kind of girl you settle down with. Buy a nice house in the suburbs, white picket fence, a couple of kids running around the yard. And at night, crazy wild sex.

Jason Hook is awesome. He has great chops, but more importantly (to me) his solos are very melodic.

Great player.

If you watch the Documentary Such Hawks Such Hounds about stoner rock/doom metal the musicians talk about having to work odd jobs between tours. These are bands with multiple albums out and considered legends in their genres.

I think he's also the guitarist in "The Voice" house band... every once in a while one of the singers chooses a song and keeps the guitar solo and he SHREDS. Great tone, great discipline.

If they aren't the same guy, then I agree that Pink's guitarist (really her whole touring band) is terrific.

Yeah this isn't so much of a story as an advertisement for the shiatty nu-metal/mallcore tour that is about to plague North America. There was a tour that helped America's metal scene but unfortunately Behemoth/Watain/The Devil's Blood/In Solitude have already went back across the pond. For the old school metal crowd, Judas Priest just finished their Epitaph tour with BLS for support, and Iron Maiden is traveling around right now. For the Black Metal enthusiast, Panopticon just released an amazing album, and there are a couple death metal tours going around right now. The American Metal scene is just fine without your shiatty bands.

/nothing wrong with a session musician taking a paying job.

All those bands suck, except for God Forbid. Killswitch Engage use to be good, but they are kind of meh. So I would call that genre field metal that they are in, because once you put one of their cds in your car to play it, you want to immediately through the cd out the window.

No I thought he taught Madonna how to play guitar, and was her touring guitarist for a bit, while she was still married to that one guy. They had video of him on stage doing like a Pantera riff. I can't remember if I saw it on Fark or Blabbermouth. From what I searched it's another Prong guitarist.

Damn those Bogners. They're one-trick ponies, but what they do - which is massive amounts of gain while still retaining clarity - they do so very well.
