"This state prides itself on it's clean living, beautiful ski slopes and BYU"

"What is... UTAH?"

Lesser leftist luminaries, like Congresswoman Rosa DeLaura of Connecticut,

I'm guessing by "Lesser" he means "I'm going to just pretend the left finds this person important so I can hang them with whatever dumb thing they said".

That means you didn't get to the best part! The comments:

I propose a tax on bumper stickers on cars. Most leftwing moonbats have at least 5 stickers proclaiming everything from how they will vote to their food preferences. They always seem to have a "be tolerant to all religions" sticker somewhere on their trunk as if Jews and Christians need to be reminded not to blow up their neighbor's home and children.

That said, I have a prolife sticker, a tea party sticker, and the Palin portion of my '08 campaign sticker on the back of my car.

But if each is subject to only $200 in taxes then I will gladly pay it, the liberal kooks likely won't be able to afford their bumper sticker billboards, though they might be the only things holding their rustmobiles together.

If we put a tax on political bumper stickers, Sarah Palin would make a killing.

Considering that their audience is mostly lower income whites I think a lot of that is an attempt to project their own feelings of inadequacy on people they feel inferior to.

Why stop at porn? Legalize and tax prostitution while you are at it. Marijuana next.

A 10% sales tax on those 3 along could raise how many billions of dollars?

From the comments:

In New York City, you'll see a great example of "liberal logic." The government has put higher taxes on cigarettes to help increase tax revenue. At the same time, however, there's a city-run ad campaign showing the devastating effects of lung cancer to encourage folks to GIVE UP cigarettes. So, which program does the city government wish to have succeed?

LMAO

The best way for conservatives to get the left to abandon this perverse social engineering of legal activity through excessive taxation is to propose soaking Americans who do things which we believe are destroying the fabric of society.

So basically do what you hate because "the ends justify the means".

/talk about hypocrisy

They've got a point, unfortunately. The "sin taxes" that are intended to reduce demand for a product through price increases, result in the government serving both God and Mammon, as it were. The way you solve that particular problem is far too simple for most governments -- mandate that 100% of all "sin taxes" go solely to research/prevention/treatment of the disorders caused by the use of the products. That way, assuming there is a reasonably linear relationship between the evil product and ill health, as use drops, need for services should drop as well.

But any time the state can tax something like alcohol and add those revenues to the general fund, it becomes dependent -- addicted, as it were -- on the income ginned up (heh) by sales. Then it is in fact acting against itself by trying to minimize use, which is a bad thing. And it's both "sides" doing it. The spendthrifts will see new income for more programs, while the tightwads will see opportunities to cut taxes in other areas. Both actions are fiscally irresponsible and morally inappropriate considering the reason the taxes were levied.

"Sin taxes" aren't necessarily a bad thing, they simply have to be used wisely. Which isn't very "government-like", regardless of which party is holding the purse strings.
