Do not understand how DeRo won MVP when, you know, EDDIE JOHNSON scored the Game Winning goal.

Oh wait. DeRo's club is sponsored by VW, who also sponsors the MVP. I GET IT!

Also, as a Philly Union fan, for a full house, that is the QUIETEST I've ever heard PPL Park. It was astonishing. The Sons of Ben had a good showing but were either very quiet or ESPN purposely mic'd the park away from the SOBs.

Also: Very weird hearing Maria being sung for a DCU player.

Probably because they didn't have 'Marfan' (only on for half the second half) or Valdes (around an hour of play) on the starting 11. Things picked up a bit when those substitutions were made. And what a night for the Sons of Ben.

When you need to take the top players from the whole league to compete with a single team of another league, you're a scrub league. Especially considering if the other team gave a shiat at all, you'd be romped.

Philly Union beat Everton a year ago, so the league has some talent that can win on any given matchday. Although not having twitchy Tim Howard in goal probably hurt The Toffees.

They gave a shiat. They're supposed to be getting close to 100% match fitness, for a season where they have to defend the Champions League Cup and compete with the two Manchester teams. And they've faced Donovan (Everton), Beckham (Man United), and Henry (Arsenal) before and come off second best.

Not forgetting that Chelsea have, apart from new signings, already played dozens (hundreds, for many of the players) of games together as a cohesive unit (which showed with their movement into the 18 yard box). In the same way that the best club team should always beat the best national team (composed of the best players but from different teams), an established team should beat a mish-mash of players from one league.

Cry moar, Blues.

As a Stevenage Borough fan in the States (I'll always call them that), and they're playoff-for-the-Championship caliber: I disagree. Philly Union would toy with a team like Stevenage. They'd take Blackpool or Derby to town. I'd put them at the level of Stoke or QPR. And yes, I know QPR were lucky to stay up.

I remember when he signed from the MetroStars and people from Manchester on Usenet were worried if he'd be any good. I told them he had the reflexes of a twichy cat. He won them the F.A Cup the first year. I think that song was invented by the Stretford End faithful.

They don't care if they win or lose. The club is making money by touring with them. That's all this is.

In spring training baseball teams will often play against a local college team or their own low-level affiliate. Sometimes they lose. It doesn't mean the level of play is anywhere near close.

Well I can think of a few people in this thread that do.

You think the other 19 BPL teams will let you live this down? Especially Man United, who beat the MLS All-Stars 5-2 and 4-0 in the last two years?

Oh, sorry: I guess Sir Alex wasn't taking it seriously either!

There does seem to be a cognitive dissonance there. They're playing against an inferior level of player, they're trying to get in shape, they're not worried if they don't win. Chelsea FC - we're just not trying!

Let me live what down? I don't give a shiat about Chelsea.

Rank these achievements:

Champions league winner
Beating MLS All-Star team
EPL winner
FA Cup winner
League Cup winner

Let's see I'll go with: Champions League Winner, EPL Winner, FA Cup, League Cup, qualifying for CL competition next year, qualifying for the Euro cup next year, beating your biggest rival, finishing in the top half, not being relegated, having sex with my hot wife on top of my millions of dollars, going site seeing in Philadelphia, beating the MLS allstars

This is why I hate the MLS All Star game.

If MLS wins, it's just a meaningless friendly. Let's forget the fact that these MLS players had 0-2 practices with each other before the match and are playing against teams that regularly practice together.

If MLS loses like they did against Manchester United the past two years, the league sucks and is poor quality.

Is MLS one of the top leagues in the world? No. It's only 16 years old though. It keeps getting better, and is a hell of a lot more fun to watch in person instead of waking up at the crack of dawn to cheer on some team from a country you've never been to.

Since they've gotten rid of Nowak, it's been a lot better. Lot more controlled runs, lots of youth and speed up top.

Although I think playoffs this year is a pipe dream, Jack Mac and Hoppenot give a lot of hope for next year.

The MLS has done really well against the EPL so far in this touring season. The only game the MLS has lost has been in penalties.

I was at the Crew vs Stoke City game on Tuesday and it was a ton of fun. It was especially fun when the Crew scored in the 86th minute for the win.

This is false. Chelsea beat Sounders FC 4-2 because our defense got used in the 1st 15 minutes and Jeff Parke (usually one of our more reliable defenders) shat the bed completely, being directly responsible for 3 Chelsea scores. For a good 25 minutes after going down 2-0, we got back in their face and tied it up, only to give up two more before the half. Played to zeroes for the last 45, though.

Could you imagine the horror? Pushing the ball up the field to try and gain a free kick, force a corner or get in behind while down a goal? Well, that's just foolishness. Why clearly it makes more sense to pass the ball around passively and try to draw THE TEAM THAT'S ALREADY WINNING out. Surely that will work, right?

What makes the All-Star game/team so stupid is that: even if you get the best players from each team, those players never train/play with each other enough. The last MLS games before the All star were saturday night. They prob. traveled sunday. That means they practiced at most 2 days (highly unlikely). Probably less since the MLS teams would be scared of any of the players getting hurt.
