i actually shelled out $20 of REAL money to buy one of these awhile ago. what does it do? well, nothing. it just sits there. i don't even PLAY Farmville anymore!

So people are going on about spending money in a game? Let me tell you my EVE story some time and my mass of assets which, like your $20.00 what-look-likes-a FarmVille item, cost me around $1700 bux to get and I can't get them out of the station I put them at.

If the game is entertaining, even for a week, I will spend my money on it.

You should check out Team Fortress 2. You can buy hats! ;)

I can imagine that unexpected decline being fairly punishing. I did a battery of those games, like 4 at once, until one day I realized, all i was doing was clicking functionally the same buttons on different games, that basically did the same thing. I was like a hamster pressing a food pellet button, or worse, a button that showed me a picture of a food pellet.

So i cold-turkey stopped, and suddenly realized I'm not checking my facebook every few hours for the cooldowns so I can click another button and wait another couple hours.

So... they spent $200 million to acquire a property and reported a lost of $108 million for the same period. In other words they made $92 million profit but just spent a shiatload of money for something that might be profitable.

I might be a bit contrarian here, but

Baelz: The Veruca Salt's of the current gaming generation have utterly destroyed gaming. The Zyngas of the world are simply reacting to this instant gratification need. It sucks that most of the gaming models now are pay2win. Hell... Blizzard utterly screwed up Diablo 3 in a hope to cash in on the "I wan't it now!!!" gamers who are so quick to swipe a CC then actually *gasp* play a farking game.

/in my day we had to hick up hill in snow to wait 3 days for a drop to complete a quest...

You played Everquest too?

I played Mafia Wars a few years ago. Played it for months, maybe even longer. Then someone on a message board asked me what it was, and I described it. After reading back what I just wrote, I went to facebook and deleted the app.

You click a button to get money to buy something(s) that allow you the option of clicking another button.

Mog32Kupo: Zynga, like the games it makes...is a flash in the pan

Know any bored housewives still playing farmville or angry bird?
when was the last time you popped on words with friends or draw something?

So hows that again? Consoles are dying, mobile is the future?
diaf zynga

Zynga didn't make angry birds. If it did only 2 birds would be available for free and you would only have 10 shots before having to pay money or wait 10 minutes for another shot. Birds would also come dressed in different clothes and would be available for more money.

Because People in power are Stupid: In the 1990's I spent thousands of dollars on chess books and for what - a mere 300 point improvement in my game. At least most of my friends who play THAT game know enough not to play me... or I them. But minimally I have an addictive "skill" to show for it.

But any-who, I am here to say that Zynga is the expense without the benefit. That is any idiot can play Zynga's clicking game and spend just as much money as I did without having any skill other than what Zynga says you have. Of course Zynga is insatiable for money and will treat their "players" as such.

Stocks are funny things.

My company before today: "We plan on $1.55 billion in revenue in 2012."
Marketplace: "LOL your stock sucks. Trade it at a 2-year low!"
My company today: "OK, we took a closer look at projections, and it looks like we're on track to get only $1.4 billion in 2012."
Marketplace today: "zOMG buy buy buy +6%!!!"
