That's far more imaginative than what my city's mayor would have done - called up the police chief and complained about the officer's audacity for daring to make him take responsibility for his behaviour (or, in short, "I'm Rob farking Ford, dammit!")

Cops are d-bags:
Franklin has been at odds with some members of the police department almost since he took office. The rift began 10 days into his term when Franklin refused to hire Rozzi's son, Jason, for an open position on the force.

My city's mayor rides his bike to work, but I think he'd pay a parking ticket without much fuss or bother.

With the new parking spot, Franklin said he feels he will be able to get in and out of the building quickly to conduct city business.

"This will allow me to do that a lot better," he said.

Because he's not only the mayor, he's also the goddamn Batman!

The mayor's a d-bag too in this scenario. He acted like he was above the law. He got immaturely retaliatory over a $20 ticket that he rightfully earned. He should have just quietly paid it and then followed the law next time he parked if he didn't want a ticket. You know, like the rest of us little people who aren't above the law and don't have city workers and the authority to do what he did.

If he'll act out like this so brazen and publicly I would bet you good money he's abusing his power behind the scenes in other ways too.

Agreed, the mayor even agreed that now that he has these spaces, he can conduct city business more efficiently. I am very proud of him.

To be fair, it makes perfect sense that the mayor would have a dedicated parking spot. Pretty sure most cities have one for their mayor. And for each member of the city council, and for other high level city officials. And a staff parking lot.

Yeah, the way he did it was dickish, but there's absolutely no reason the mayor should be looking for street parking at city hall.

There's nothing wrong with the mayor having a reserved parking spot. But what he did is not just a parking spot, but an ostentatious display of being an asshole. I doubt it's going to go down well with most of the voters in his city.

Yesterday afternoon, as I pulled out of a notoriously steep driveway at a store a Corvette pulled into the driveway and scraped it bumper. The guy driving had to be into his 70's. I hate Corvettes for a list of reasons that include behavior like this of the mayor in this story, so I laughed.

I don't think even this douchebag would be that brazen. Imagine the fallout. "We couldn't get to the robbery in time to prevent the fatal shootings because the mayor had towed and impounded our police car."

mongbiohazard: At city hall? Absolutely. I expect a parking space where I work too.

Depends on where you work. At some places, free reserved parking is only for executives and maybe upper management. Everyone else has to pay for parking, look for a place on the street, or find alternate means of transportation.

FTA: Franklin said his office had three spots before the new spot was created.

So why did he need to park illegally in the first place?

Um, I suggest you re-read the article...Franklin is the mayor and Rozzi is the police chief:

Mayor Ted Franklin received a ticket Friday for parking in a no-parking zone outside the City Building.

Franklin has been at odds with some members of the police department almost since he took office. The rift began 10 days into his term when Franklin refused to hire Rozzi's son, Jason, for an open position on the force.

Sounds like the chief needs to put up a "Corrupt city official with soon to be exposed skeletons in his closet" parking only sign in its place...

Reading fail.

You're right that it was the police officer's son, not the mayor's. The article wouldn't make any sense otherwise.

But I'm not sure if Rozzi is still the police chief. The article words it like this:

Officer A.J. Rozzi, the police chief under Franklin's predecessor, Mike Fincher

Which could mean that he was demoted by Franklin from chief to officer.

I tried to check out the city's website to see if Rozzi is still the police chief, but it's currently down.

2012-07-26 08:59:12 AM
Just to add some local flavor to this story:

They Mayor is also pissed at the cops for picking his kid up for possession with the intent to distribute, while driving one of the Mayor's other cars.

The Mayor also has three other parking spots assigned to his office.

As much as you want to bag on the cops trust me, the Mayor is the bigger d-bag.

2012-07-26 09:02:40 AM
I was firmly in the "Mayor is a douchebag" camp. But then I read this:

Franklin has been at odds with some members of the police department almost since he took office. The rift began 10 days into his term when Franklin refused to hire Rozzi's son, Jason, for an open position on the force.

Now I still think he's a douchebag, but I like him just a little bit, too.

Nepotism is dangerous in police forces.

The Mayor is a firefighter on leave, his brother just retired from the city police force so that the Mayor could appoint him the code enforcement officer.

They Mayor fully embraces nepotism.
