Pay phone bills?

Hurr.

2012-07-26 12:40:08 AM
So, this woman used the credit cards of a dead man to pay off her personal phone bills... And she didn't expect to be caught within a couple of weeks? With staff as mind-bogglingly retarded as that, it's no surprise the guy died.

Hello, World's Dumbest Criminals...

The thing that did it for me was the airline tickets. The phone bill was just as retarded, but I mean... I feel like something could be bullshiated with that. You damn sure cant get an airline ticket without using your real info though.

2012-07-26 12:48:18 AM
...also makes me a little curious if this was a first time retard thing, or if the biatch had successfully stolen other credit cards from the hospital before.

2012-07-26 01:02:40 AM
I'm still trying to decide if this is any more scummy than stealing a living person's credit card.

*shrug*

I'd love to see a breakdown of these types of crimes by gender.
It seems most times I read about somebody stealing card numbers from customers, writing company checks to fake vendors, you know, petty embezzlement, the perpetrator is usually (but not always) a female, somewhere between 35 and 55, and has been working there for a while. A lot of times they have a love for the slot machines at the casino. Race doesn't seem to be a factor.

/If it is in the millions or billions, it is usually someone with an MBA, and they get bailed out by congress

I hate privatized healthcare as much as the next liberal, but even with single-payer hospitals are still gonna need desk clerks.

This is unforgivable.

As Healthcare workers, we are given intimate trust of people in their times of need, with little knowledge of ourselves before hand. As such, we cannot tolerate people doing this, and they should face the harshest of penalties for doing so.

Well, have you ever had to be in the room with a stoner ranting about how the world would be much better if we all just smoked pot, and used hemp instead of synthetics?

I mean, I'm all for legalization, but damn. Even I wanted to hit that guy.

I always wonder why people in that position don't just go on a spending spree and then hightail it out of the country. She bought a plane ticket- why was she still here to get arrested?

To be fair, I'm probably missing something. Feel free to explain.

well to be fair, I'd say that this is much more likely to happen in a private hospital. At public hospitals in the US, the patient's don't actually have money to steal.

I know a chaplain at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, the region's busiest level 1 trauma center. Basically, if you're severely injured in a wreck within hundreds of miles of Atlanta, that's where you want the ambulance to take you if you want the best chance of surviving. Unfortunately, according to rumor (confirmed by this chaplain), many people "lose" the contents of their wallets on the ambulance ride there.

People are just no dang good sometimes.

Dammitsomuch.

I grew up in Sarasota. I see the WTF factor is still strong there.

I also worked at Sarasota Memorial Hospital summers when I was in college. I came to work one morning to find that four hours before, some guy was brought into the ER for treatment after knife fight in a bar. As the doctors were sewing him up, the guy with whom he had the fight came in with a gun. He barged into the treatment room, elbowed the doctors aside and shot the patient dead.

My summer jobs were in maintenance or in the boiler room. One of the PA codes, code orange or something, was for every one in the maintenance department to grab a pipe wrench or such and get up to 5North, the psych floor and help subdue a patient who went apeshiat.

I have been considering going back to college to pick up a few more classes that I would need, along with good MCAT scores, to go to med school. It looks like I just found an exciting new way to pay for that education...

Yes they are. They get so much practice. Hang out in the emergency room during a full moon sometime. Whoa.

I heard about this full moon thing from three different people that works at the hospital, - Nurse, EMT and a social worker - They all say the same thing, people do incredibly dumb things on that night and the ER gets way overcrowded.

That doesn't make any sense - full moon?

There's a ton of evidence that people are crazier during the full moon. Whether it's an actual unidentified physical effect, or just people collectively deciding that hey, it's full moon, let's get crazy, is still up for debate. Lots of hypotheses, not much hard conclusion.

Yup.

All kinds of weird shiat used to go down in Sarasota in the Sixties.

1. black guy was shot "while attempting to escape." Fact was that he was held down and his nuts were blown off with a shotgun by deputies

2. kids were arrested for vagrancy for being downtown with under $20 on their person and "no valid reason to be downtown"

3. super macho high school civics teacher and assistant football coach was forced to resign when it was discovered he was banging cheerleaders

4. West German exchange student was threatened with deportation for making an obvious joke about forming a Communist cell

In addition to what Foxyshadis said, it's also a half-joke referring to the werewolf myth.

You know this is small grapes compared to the theivery that takes place if you make it out of the hospital alive. The entire healthcare industry is corrupt, the only difference is unlike the desk clerk they steal far larger amounts of money and are allowed by law to do it.

It's where the term "lunatic" comes from. It's a superstitious belief that a full moon makes people crazy. Anybody who has been to Koh Phangan on a full moon knows that it's actually magic mushrooms and yaa baa that make people crazy.

In one hospital I'm familiar with "Doctor Strong to [some
Location]" was the signal that an armed lunatic was wandering the halls.

Sad that it happens often enough they have a code word for it. Makes you wonder how many other things they have a code word for...
