A party that is made up entirely of spineless plutocrats and theocrats whose base is too stoned to organize and whose membership won't unite around a message?

I'm okay with this.

Don Young is just trying to make it fashionable to bring home the bacon again.

Don't know if you knew this, but up until just a couple of years ago, the Republicans were spending us blind on stupid shiat like Bridges to Nowhere and Don Young's Way. Don is a little pissed that the GOP has suddenly pretended to be against spending and earmarks.

No, it wasn't. Don has been on the Transportation committee for ages. Ted did a hell of a lot, but so did Don. It's how they both kept getting reelected all those years.

Here in Hawaii, GOP Senate candidate Linda Lingle actually has the phrase "working with President Obama" in her campagin commercials. She also speaks of "reaching across the asile."

This. I'm not from Alaska, but no top ten list of corrupt legislators would be complete without mentioning Don Young. I'm not too sure how much this will help the Hawaiian candidate when Don Young's record is pointed out in response to this ad though.

And though Lingle was a decent enough Governor, I can't vote for her because she's a Republican and I assume she's lying. That's one of the things you can rely on with Republicans.

Remember when compromise was just one of several legislative tactics that a group could choose from to get what they wanted and no itself a principle to be spat upon or *shudder* turned into a core belief?

I can't vote for her because she touts about education and then closes down the public school's,

Mazie dropping out of the gov. race when she thought the competition might be too tough,
then jumping back in after Harris quit shows me her how she will stick to her guns.

I just love how they think that mega rich CEO's leaving the country would be so devastating. Oh no, how will I live now that the billionaire (Who I've never seen in my life before because his massive, obscene amounts of wealth ensure he never has to cross paths with a dirty peasant like me) has left the country and is living on a secluded island with a bunch of other idiots in the same caliber? How will this genuinely hurt me?

There's a long partnership across the aisle with AK and HI. The article is right -- we are the "Freak States" (as the Simpsons called us), and we bond together on many issues because of it. This is nothing new.

Ted Stevens' best friend was Daniel Inouye (Sen, D, HI) and the two states forged long-lasting ties. None of this stuff is really new, it just works in the best interest of both states.

Alaska can secede from the union if they like, but Texas oil money will convince the other 48 states to go to war on Alaska, kill all of their leaders, and retake it.

It'd create jobs, anyway.

That's the kind of third party America needs.

To be fair, earmarks would have kept the bridge to nowhere from having its funding stolen by then-governor Palin before it was canceled.

Maybe.

Most Hawaii Republicans would be moderate Democrats on the mainland. Lingle certainly has more liberal views on, say, native Hawaiian issues than your average mainland Republican.

Link is farked, so I can't RTFA. Have to get back to work anyway.

She was a decent enough Govenor, and IMO if McCain was smart, he would have picked Lingle (a female with real executive experience) instead of Palin.

To me, what this country needs is not a "moderate" or "centrist" third party. It needs a leftist third party, since our current major parties are right and center-right in true ideology. In my mind, such a party isn't left enough until Bernie Sanders wants to be a part of it.

Unmarried since 1997.
Jewish.

Not the type of candidate that would get votes from the constituency that McCain needed to appeal to.
