AND, consider that logo changes = team success as of late.

In the late 90s, my Broncos went from "Horse in D with Sinus Issues" or "Unicorn Blowjob" to ANGRY HORSEHEAD and won back-to-back Super Bowls. The Bucs went to from orange winking pirate "Bruce" to something a little less effeminate and they went on to crush the Raiders in XXXVII. And the Seahawks made the Super Bowl! Reason? Angry bird face instead of reverent Inuit art?

Hell, the freaking Cardinals made the Super Bowl. I submit to you the logo change:

And the Lions, who changed their logo after 0-16 and then proceeded to go... 2-14!

2nd year QBs tend to slump compared to their rookie seasons. Not always, but tend to. Carolina doesn't have much playoff experience either. I know, SF didn't either last season, but they were the exception to the rule. More times than not, teams without playoff experience are shown the door quickly.

I'll buy that they will be competitive for the division title, and may even get a 1st round bye thanks to an easy/favorable home schedule, but based on how things are right now, I see them not doing much more than a playoff appearance.

I like the cut of his jib. Odds are it won't happen but I'm not gonna give the guy a hard time about making his goal a public statement - maybe it will be contagious and have an effect on the team. Rag on him if you like but I bet he works his ass off in camp.

Bastard, they were going to be my sleeper pick this year. Now that's ruined and they'll probably gag under the pressure.

Actually, this reminds me of Jason Terry. Before the 2010-11 season, he had a Larry O'Brien Trophy tattooed on his bicep. That's bravado right there and he DID work his ass off.

The entire NFC is so loaded that I don't think anyone besides maybe the Packers and Giants can count on a playoff spot. And even those teams can't count on winning their division.

You've got 5 teams (CHI, PHI, AZ, DAL, CAL) that didn't make the playoffs last year that are expected to challenge for their divisional crowns, and of the 6 teams that did make the playoffs, only the Saints got perceptibly worse.

Even the teams on the ass end of the conference (WSH, MIN, STL, TB) got better this offseason. On paper, it looks like the NFC has more parity this year than we've seen in a long time. The AFC playoff race is going to be boring in comparison.

/NE, PIT, and BAL will make the playoffs again, and MIA, JAX and CLE will suck again. Woo.
//and it's an even numbered year, which means CIN will suck too

I'm not disagreeing with you at all. Like I said, I'd buy the argument they will compete for the division. That's based on the picture right now. Alot can change between now and then. The Saints could knuckle up and compete or completely fold. Atlanta could finally live up to the hype, or continue being Atlanta. Tampa has the potential to pull off some key upsets. Without seeing how the teams are playing, its just approximations for now.

Agreed; I wasn't trying to refute what you were saying, but rather emphasizing that making predictions about the NFC right now is fruitless. There are only like 4 teams in the conference that don't have a reasonable shot at the playoffs, and even the dregs are pretty good.

That's the way it's been for a while. In the last 11 years, the NFC has sent ten different teams to the Superbowl. The AFC has sent 4.

Who is over rating the falcons? Most people have them missing the playoffs with new coordinators and an even more suspect defense than the last two years.

Even with all that they will finish above the panthers.

Why would you even think they would be that much better? Their defense looked worse than the falcons last year and that's almost impossible.

..because a lot of that was due to injury. The Panthers essentially fielded a JV D last year. If they can stay healthy and if Captain Munnerlyn decides to stop sucking, I see a HUGE defensive improvement this year. I also see general declines in both the Saints and Falcons (the Bucs were already rock bottom and have nowhere to go but up), so it's not unreasonable at all to think the Panthers have a shot at the division.

Well I didnt see a lot of injuries to them last year since they sucked from the start, the falcons biggest problem is now coaching in jacksonville, I was shocked anyone would give him a job since his offense play calling sucks.

I still see the panthers finishing 7-9 or maybe 8-8 at best.
