That is partly your fault for joining a LFR, which is a cesspool composed of the best(worst) parts of trade/barrens and griefers.

The only way I did LFR was with at least 9 people from my guild, we only did that for about a month, while we filled in the gaps from the gear we were not getting to drop in Normal/Heroics.

Guild leader talked me into it to help a pair of other guildies out. LFR gave me a seriously dislike of mages, since they seemed to cry about the tanks and healers the most, and would then demand that we play the way they wanted us to

If you want to do any of the end-game raiding, you have to devote every moment of your free time to acquiring enough gear to avoid being kicked out of raids and being called a noob, at the expense of your family and career. If you're not willing to sacrifice everything for the game, then you're relegated to paying $15 per month for the privilege of standing around the auction house for hours.

I do not understand why anyone would play that game unless they're quitting alcohol or cocaine and need to find a new outlet for addictive behaviour.

The more people from your guild are present in your LFR run, the better it is... less than 5 and it's just as bad as if you were on your own. It's even better when you have all tanks and healer roles taken by your guildies... you don't like a dps, you let them die.

CSB inc

Played from 1.11 through 2.4, thought the game was getting better and better every patch. Picked it up again for a month right when Ulduar came out and even though they had made some improvements in the general gameplay, I was much less impressed with the game gontent. Tried it one more time during some injury downtime last October, and while I liked it better than WOTLK, it seems to have "lost the magic". Maybe it's just me, I burned out on it.

Haven't wanted to play since the Panda thing. Nothing against WOW - I'm not one of those people who "lost their lives" to it - I'd just rather play single player stuff these days.

Only ever had a single character.

End CSB

Yea I know, it was partly my fault for agreeing. But after that incident, I sort of looked and realized the main reason I started playing was because my fiance's parents both play and it was an easy way to score brownie points. They haven't been on in months, so between that motivation being gone, boredom with raiding, and hatred of entire swaths of the player base, I had just had enough.

Quit a month or so after Cata launch because Cataclysm was so full of fail.

The asian-inspired art in mists looks cool but I'd be dammed if I start paying $15/mo again for WoW after being clean for 18 months.

Plus, pandas & pokemon. What am I, 9?

Basically this. LFR is only good when you have people who know what they're doing. Those people are all gone now that they've long since filled out their tier sets and stopped doing it, so you end up with the lowest common denominators: horribly undergeared DPSers fudging their ilvls with gear they can't even use, tanks who can't grasp the simplest of concepts made even simpler for LFR, and healers not even a mother could love.

That makes a lot of sense. I initially got into wow, and very grudgingly, at the behest of my gf... and only because my best friend also wanted the zhevra... so I killed two birds in one stone.

I'd play it, and pay 10USD a month, untill I got tired of it after some months. Blizzard would earn whatever, maybe 60USD of me.

But I'd have to pay 40USD for the expansion as well! Oh, fark you Blizzard, you'll get 0.

I've been on MMOs since UO. The best times I had in game were on EQ1, LotRO, and pre-CU Galaxies. You're right about tanking though. Main tanking is where it's at.

The wife and I will play it.

We have a real solid core of about fourteen people all of them couples and over 30 so there is zero drama.
She's a raider and I like gathering stuff so it works out well.

/It also helps that nearly all the guys we play with are the same guys I played ADnD with back in the military.

I got into WoW in 04 after a coworker pushed and pushed that it would be fun. I had been on EQ and Shadowbane (god, that game had SO much potential, but the lag and server bugs were a mess) so I signed on. I dabbled i the Horde for a couple of months, then my best friend moved in to my townhouse I had just bought, and got him into WoW after a failed run on City of Heroes. We set up the dining area into a big tech room, and would play WoW a few feet away from each other, with a lovely fridge full of beer in between. That was right before BC. He dropped out shortly after that after burning out. I played through BC off and on, then Lich King and then wife bought me Cata last Christmas, but didn't really get in to it.

It had just lost it's luster to me.

as an aside CSB, my best friend had two coworkers/friends that played. They were brothers. We were all in the same guild, Burning Legion, and had great run in the raids. One of the guys was a programmer and he had lived in Japan for a few years. He met and married a local, and brought her back to the states. She had never been to the US before that. She was a cute little lady. But he was so wrapped up in WoW. He would play, forget to do things, and started neglecting her. One day we were in a raid, and he joined. He should have been picking his wife up from school. He made her take the bus. I told him that the girl was gonna leave him, and he was like "Nah, she doesn't know anyone here." Of course he was a typical looking troll, and married well above his paygrade.

Anyway, a week later, she left him, and he was devastated.

2012-07-25 01:40:55 PM
Ahhh, yes, World of Warcraft.

I personally got a kick out of Cataclysm's early zones because they were supposedly redone to encourage people to play the earlier content more, but I never felt like Azeroth was more empty than in Cataclysm. The way they redesigned things with an outpost every two feet, it felt like you were in some weird megacity creep the whole time, but it was still completely abandoned. In the older game, it was okay when nobody else was around because it felt like you had walked out of town into the surrounding wilderness, but with these changes, it just seemed like there was no more wilderness and instead it was just empty zones nobody was playing in.

I actually quit when the pre-release 4.0.1 patch dropped because the skill changes were just dumb, but I picked up Cata on sale maybe 10 months later and gave it a shot. I think I managed to last maybe three months by doing PvP before I gave up again.

Between patches 1.12 and the last Wrath patch I would quit periodically when Blizzard's awful tech problems got to be too annoying or just because I grew tired of it, but I always wanted to come back, but after Cata that's all changed. I just feel, for the first time ever, absolutely no interest in playing anymore.

I want to play WoW, I just want to play a version of it that stopped existing a year and a half ago. Toss on top of that the fact that Blizzard has gone full-raging-asshole mode on customers and forget it.

2012-07-25 01:41:04 PM
Also agree with the main tanking bit. I'd have left WoW if our old MT hadn't decided to take a break and I basically forced my RL to swap me from healer to main tank.

/Rarely notice when everyone else's bodies are littered around me as I'm simply popping cooldowns to stay alive thinking healers are overwhelmed

Nah, the awful spelling and repetition gets old quick. It's like they're listening to their older brother on Call of Duty and trying to sound tough like him

There are some good changes, but the pandas. I mean they are going to be all over the place. Walk into Stormwind or Orgrimmar, pandas everywhere. It's not going to feel like WoW anymore but instead one of those free to play Korean MMOs. I won't even go into the Pokemon stuff they are adding.

People run private servers for both vanilla and BC and I have a lot more fun playing on those. There are actually people questing all over out in the world instead of everywhere being deserted, the community is better since it is more closely moderated and there are no gold farmers/spammers all over. You get to know people since there is no random stranger dungeon finder, no dumbed down hand holding, no death knights werewolves sexy elves or space goats and best of all no monthly fee.

I played from release until just before Cata. I was in hardcore raiding guilds throughout vanilla and WotLK, but was casual in BC. I played with RL friends and had a lot of friends I had met in game. However, one day, I was in ICC and was like, "Man, I hate this game."

I uninstalled and have never had the slightest desire to play since. It was weird because I had quit a couple times before, but I knew I'd be back those times. I guess I just finally got bored of it after almost six years.

Just about every complaint I've seen posted on here about WoW is why I hate Star Trek Online. Especially the community. I've played a few online games, and by far the most smug community is the one on Star Trek Online. Its like the game is littered with trekkie YouTube commenters. I've never had a bad experience with WoW, but I've barely played it. City of Heroes was all about teamwork when it came to grouping, and slight mistakes were forgiven by the group. Star Wars Galaxies had a great community from what I could tell whenever I had time to interact with them after spending several hours just trying to make the next level after retrieving Jabba the Hutt's drycleaning.

/anyway, Star Trek Online sucks. Mainly because of its players. Partly because of its gameplay.

Any game is what YOU make it.

Too many fanboys (and girls) like to "beat" the game and then whine about how easy it is or whine if it's too hard to beat.............

I'm not particularly interested in white-knighting for WoW but I will say that I am able to find enjoyment in it when I do play (which is decidely less these days). I'll probably play MoP for a biatcheck out the new dungeons and gear etc.

For me, online gaming has always been about playing with friends and family so the game is really just a medium.

One thing I will say about the few time I've played WoW, is the world is beautiful. I have fun just running randomly around and taking in how gorgeous everything is. There's a lot of dedication to detail in that game as far as world rendering.

What is this "sun" you mention? Is it the hot burny thing located in the semi-mystical "outside"? I hear it is bad for you - causes wrinkles and skin aging. I shall continue to avoid it.

I love all my toons. They are all in my own guilds, bank guilds. And the guilds are leveling, too. Anyway, they all have different professions so I can do my own enchants, tailoring, blacksmithing, glyphs, potions, etc., within each group on each server. I don't give a shiat about raiding or PVP and buy my gear because I save so much gold doing my own professions. I rarely ever talk to anyone in-game except my husband. I like questing, leveling alts (obviously), collecting, crafting, collecting mounts. I never have a bad time, I never have any drama, I play as I want to when I want to, no GMs pushing me to do stuff. It's just pure fun in a world I take at my pace and enjoy at my leisure.
