considering a romney spokesperson just said that obama doesn't get our "anglo-saxon heritage," i'd say he's at least partially right. and the birther shiat is just mired in deep racism.

Well, in fairness, subby, one of Obama's most significant failings to many Virginia voters *is* his lack of whiteness.

This is why we can't have nice things in America.

"Mitt Romney, he's speaking to ... a segment of the population who does not like to see people other than a white man in the White House or in any other elective position," Lucas said Tuesday.

um...well yeah. I mean that's kinda true. Romney seems to be getting a LOT of support from people who aren't exactly racially tolerant.

Romney's recent gains are not explained by racism. I'm pretty sure racist had declared for him a while back.

I live in Texas. I see this shiat on a regular basis. Can we please stop pretending that a large portion of Obama's critics aren't racist, bigoted asswipes? I have a few in my family, for fark's sake.

/I can no longer count the times my grandmother has said "our ni-BONG president"

Old timey racism is almost adorable.

Of course a lot of it is racism but I think it's best not to cry about it. Because already whenever any legitimate issue is brought up, no matter how valid they cry, "race card!". So don't give them more ammo.

that's sad.

i have a friend who has a 94-year-old grandmother living in grand island, nebraska - the reddest part of a very red state - and she absolutely LOVES obama. seriously. she has a hope & change poster on her kitchen wall and her two favorite books are dreams from my father and the audacity of hope.

i was taken aback when she told me that.

As Obama seems to be getting a LOT of support from some people who vote for him solely because he's black. It's just as racist.

I love her to death, but holy damn is that annoying. How are you supposed to react when a member of your family holds a view that is not only wrong, but so incredibly ignorant and vile that you are embarrassed to be related to them. I was scared to being my girlfriend (her father is jewish) to meet them because I was worried she'd start ranting about jews controlling the media and taking all the money.

/bonus: she loves Israel

It doesn't seem that way to me, but I can imagine who it would seem that way to.

that sucks. family is family, but derp is derp.

the israel thing is interesting. it's because the religious right has an uneasy alliance with the jewish right. mainly because they believe that the jews need to occupy israel for the end times to happen. *shudder*

I stole Obama's time machine.

There's a pretty decent overlap between 'Romney supporters' and 'racists' if you do a Venn diagram.
