The GOP smells what November is cooking.
They're getting desperate.

Judging by Facebook posts and assorted comments The Moron Majority is eating this garbage up and asking for seconds, they can't feed it to them fast enough...

FormlessOne: James!: There was an investigation, it said so in the article. It was ruled an accident.

Yeah, but that was by medical staff and administrators - good enough for emergency rooms and epidemics, but nowhere near good enough for abortions. That's where half-cocked politicians come in.

If she'd only been half-cocked we wouldn't be having this discussion.

EH!? ... fine I'll let myself out.

When it comes to reproduction, you must spend money on at least one of three things.
1) Comprehensive Sex Education
2) Abortion
3) Wellfare

From what it seems, the GOP wishes to spend money on none of those. I do not understand how that could be a socially responsible, "Christian" position.

Abe Vigoda's Ghost: Look, I'm pro-life, and I'd rather there were no abortions (of course there are exceptions). But it's been ruled constitutional, so let it go conservatives.
Also, this was a medical accident. Why treat it any differently then any other medical procedure that has complications leading to death? Let it go conservative leaders.

Thank you very, very much.

draypresct: Mitch Taylor's Bro: vernonFL: I bet they D&C that coming.

Okay, can someone explain this one to me? You can mock my ignorance while you're at it, I just want to know what it means :-)

Wikipedia knows all...

Dilation (or dilatation) and curettage (D&C) refers to the dilation (widening/opening) of the cervix and surgical removal of part of the lining of the uterus and/or contents of the uterus by scraping and scooping (curettage). It is a therapeutic gynecological procedure as well as a rarely used method of first trimester abortion

Very true, but I cannot tell you the number of pregnant teenaged girls that came into the hospitals I've worked in for a "D&C" because abortion is a sin.

Supes: Cubicle Jockey: Pocket Ninja: JackieRabbit: 2.7% of women die from it

Um....are you saying that almost 3 out of every 100 women die during childbirth in the US?

Because I don't believe that.

I assume it is 2.7% of the 17%, or 0.46% of all childbirths.

Still doesn't make sense. The most recent maternal mortality rate from the U.S. that I can find was 24 maternal deaths per 100,000 births in 2008 (and that appears to be an abnormally high year). That would be only .00024%, far less than the number stated, and that's ALL deaths, not just from hemorrhaging.

Fun fact - cross comparing statistics from multiple sources tends to fail because of differing sample sizes, methodologies, (especially) geography, etc.

The trick is believing everything you read simultaneously.

Um....are you saying that almost 3 out of every 100 women die during childbirth in the US?

Because I don't believe that.

I think he was saying you multiply those two percentages.

Anyway, mortality rates for abortion are less than .6 per 100000:
[www.cdc.gov image 640x532]
Compared to around 14 per 10000 for pregnancy and live birth:
[2.bp.blogspot.com image 400x322]
Making abortion about 20 times safer, in general.

You know what's even safer? Not getting pregnant in the first place. The only 100% effective way to do that is not have sex in the first place.

This message brought to you by people who are having sex, but are tired of people making excuses about why they are having an abortion. Childbirth is a necessary medically procedure, abortion in the vast majority of cases isn't.

The One True TheDavid: Detinwolf:

I heard that Planned Parenthood actually sends roving gangs of "abortion squad" operatives Splinter Cell-style to America's hospitals and performs stealth abortions on women who don't even want them.

I heard they bust into VFW halls and do forcible abortions on the old Nam vets there.

I heard they stampede cattle through the Vatican & try to retroactively abort the Pope.

I am sure I won't be the first. Dilation and Curettage. Procedure to scrape the lining of the uterus to remove any tissue causing a problem. Useful after mscarriages, edometriosis, etc. Pretty commonly done. I even had one.

dletter: So, considering this made huge news, I am going to guess the tens or hundreds of thousands of previous abortions at PP clinics have not resulted in death... otherwise we'd have gotten this level of outrage before.

Didn't PP and some Farkers say that PP doesn't perform abortions? That they refer only? I'll have to GIS it up.

And that's about as pragmatic as not eating so as to guarantee you never get fat.

This message brought to you by people who are having sex, but are tired of people making excuses about why they are having an abortion.

What excuses? You get pregnant, you don't want babby, so you have an abortion. It's like saying you're hungry, so you eat a cheeseburger. There's no "excuse" involved.

Childbirth is a necessary medically procedure, abortion in the vast majority of cases isn't.

1) weren't you saying above that people can "not have sex in the first place"? In which case, how is childbirth a "necessary" medical procedure, if they have a "100% effective way" to avoid it? You shot your own argument in the foot.

2) abortion is medically necessary in every case*. Someone's pregnant, and they don't want to be. Wishing won't help, just like wishing won't help a broken leg or a burst appendix. Instead, they should undergo the necessary medical procedure: an abortion.

*theoretically, you could simply hope for a miscarriage, but that seems like a long shot, much like hoping your appendix shrinks before bursting. Probably better to undergo the necessary, safe medical procedure.

So, since when is a Rep from Florida concerned with what goes on in the state of Illinois? Why would this warrant a federal investigation and not a local/state one?

Imperialism: The days after shooting deaths in Colorado is no time to talk about guns.

The days after an abortion death in Chicago is precisely the time to talk about abortion.

I agree with that first statement. Let's give the families time to bury their dead, get the wounded out of the hospital, and let the police finish their investigation before we start doing knee-jerk reactions that might have nothing to do with the facts of the case. Because basing legislation on rumors and media conjecture would be pants on the head stupid.

The facts are in on the abortion case (medical examiner finished with body). Think it's dumb to think that somehow abortions will have a 100% survival rate for the mothers. It's medicine, things can go wrong even without any negligence or mistakes. It's also dumb to take one death at one clinic and ramp that up to an entire national organization.

Well, duh. Not one piece of paper said, "WE'RE EVIL PEOPLE BENT ON DESTROYING EVERY FETUS ON EARTH AND FUNDING IT WITH YOUR TAX DOLLARS."

Everything else is irrelevant.

They do understand, don't they, that the fault here if any was the DOCTOR'S and not Planned Parenthoods?

Neither does an abortion. It requires removing a mass of unwanted and unnecessary cells. Just like a cancer treatment.

CapeFearCadaver: elffster: The GOP is so out of touch, it boggles the mind. But what is worse is that folks still listen to them.

Think about it - right now there is someone out there fuming at what BS is being told to them, and they think that the GOP is in the right.

How stupid is that?

I've finally stopped speaking with my father. I tried, would just ignored the derp and would try to change the subject... never worked. He's just always sooo angry, for no rational reason; then would lash out at anyone nearby. I just couldn't take it anymore.

It's because the Republican Party is no longer a true political party--they're a gathering of people for whom being authoritarian is a dysfunctional personality type.

In other words, they're the facist party. The real Republican Party is hiding out in the Dems waiting for their party to regain some sense.

/Can they come back, please? I liked them, they had some good stuff.

Abe Vigoda's Ghost: Also, this was a medical accident. Why treat it any differently then any other medical procedure that has complications leading to death?

Easy: it involved Planned Parenthood- the Republican Party's MORTAL ENEMY!

If it involved something like, oh say a major pharmaceutical company negligently ignoring fatal side effects in a drug they pushed to market and the FDA hastily and irresponsibly approved, we wouldn't be batting an eyelash here.

What's that? 54 died in the initial trials? DEREGULATE, I SAY!

An accidental death falling into the 0.3% fatality rate statistic of Abortions that occured in a clinic run by Planned Parenthood? WITCH HUNT!
