TruTV would definitely know about the dumbest stuff, submitter.

Greece's "by-default" team was the runner-up in the 2003 European Championship. Of course they quickly nationalized some foreigners to make themselves more competitive; the Dream Team had a Jamaican on it, after all. The team Greece beat to finish second-last, Italy, did the same thing despite having a much longer and richer baseball history.

Wow, what a mess. Someone was overdue on their deadline, needed some crap fast.

Cutting softball was a good move. That sport was wildly uncompetitive.

List giga-fails without any mention of ANY of the shenanigans at the 1904 St. Louis games.

I guess they could have just put "1904 Olympics" on the list as a whole.

That is an awesome read, it's amazing how naive and simplistic the games were back then.

"This was a disappointment, as many observers were sure Len Tau could have done better if he had not been chased nearly a mile off course by aggressive dogs..."

All that smoke from the torch. What were they burning, Yak dung?

Yes, but that's going to happen with any women's sport where a few nations have a pre-existing culture. At least you had Japan getting stronger each time, finally winning Gold. There's been no talk of removing women's football from the Games, even though it's had just as many appearances, and just as lop-sided a medal table (well, there probably has been, but they haven't done it yet). I'm guessing it had more to do with the fact that they were removing baseball (pros didn't give a crap, and Cuba kept winning), and no one wanted to start the gender conversation, so they just axed both sides of the bat-and-ball sports.

List fails without imposter running the final lap of the 1972 marathon ahead of Frank Shorter.

I won't even mention Dorando Pietri. (pops)

I had forgotten all about that. Money shot is at 5:00 for those interested.

I agree. It takes time to develop sporting culture. Using this analogy, there's lots of sports that should be culled from the Olympics- Hockey (both mens and womens) being among them.

My daughter was pissed when softball was dropped, and is happy that it may be coming back. The Olympic softball tournament is one of our favourite events, despite it being highly tilted towards the US and Australia.

No mention of the silver trucks that were used in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics?
