I've wanted to go to the garlic festival for years and years. But it's in Gilroy. Hot as hell and super crowded. I just can't bring myself to inflict that kind of punishment on myself. Maybe next year...

I went once in the mid/late 90's. It was hot as hell and super crowded. The live music was good, though.

I used to go every year. Pro-tip: Friday is the day to be there. Far fewer people and imho a better class as well. Far fewer drunks, agitators and egos (ymmv).

Taking a day off to make it isn't a bad start to a weekend. Good luck.

P.s. Try the pepper-steak sandwich, and the stuffed mushrooms. Both available in "Gourmet Alley". Trust me.

Driving through Gilroy, stopping off at Casa de Frutas. Sometimes I miss California...

The wife and I said the same thing for years. We went about 3 years ago now and we'll never go back. It wasn't a bad time. It just wasn't much of anything. They had garlic stuff and bands. Most of the food was decent. Nothing spectacular. The music was what one would expect at a state fair. Hours of driving for about 2 hours of walking around in circles in the heat.

Garlic, It's what's for dinner.

As a 2011 garlic festival attendee I am getting a kick out of these replies.

Fun enough - I'd go if I was nearby but I wouldn't drive hours to get there. For you city folk who haven;t been what this is is a street fair. In a rural environment. With a garlic theme.

My new favorite is to mix roasted bone marrow with roasted garlic.

I very much enjoyed my visit to The Stinking Rose in San Fran. The garlic ice cream was delicious.

You don't have to drive there to smell it. Driving through San Jose is close enough with the last few days of temperature inversion. I've heard Palo Alto people noticed it too.

But it smells like garlic, not garlic breath. Appetizing even.

Um,

Garlic is sexy.

Garlic helps the body be sexy.

Garlic-breath can be sexy...

*smooch*

This.

The occasional cool summer morning brings the smell up into San Jose. Those are the days I want a huge garlicky egg & spinach breakfast.
