Lots of Putin love in here. Sounds like quite a few Farkers have gotten Escalade rides and home-cooked meals in palaces.

The distinguishing feature of the totalitarian mindset is a propensity for conventional sentimentality.

Ultimately it matters what Russians think of Putin, not me.

I will say this, though. I do not understand Americans who won't let the Cold War end. It's over. Very over. Russia today is not the Soviet Union. It has its issues but those are mostly internal. Russia doesn't have the desire for global control. It cares about mostly Asia and some of Europe, and even then it's about money, not ideology, now. Russia loves capitalism. Loves the sh*t out of it. It just happens to love oligarchy more.

I see Putin as a Russian Huey Long who has learned to keep himself from being shot, and not promise more than he can deliver more than he has to.

Russia's seat as a permanent member of the UN security council and the veto privilege that that entails is the reason we still treat Russia as if the cold war were still on.

scubamage: I like Putin. It'd be nice having a man in office who has actually had to kill a few people for his country in the first person. Not through a bunch of paperwork that deploys seals all over.

Uh, when did Putin do this exactly? Putin has never had any sort of combat role.

Putin is indeed a murderous thug, but he doesn't carry out his own assassinations.
