ox45tallboy: Burn_The_Plows: And don't forget it contains one of the finest drunk actors of all time -- JMV.

And Bruce Lee's son. Really.

"Waas Sappening!"

Off-topic: That's Jason Scott Lee, who played Bruce Lee in Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. He is not Brandon Lee, son of Bruce Lee who died making The Crow. Although Jason Scott Lee does look more like Bruce than his own son.

Born is East L.A. is great. Arpaio is a dick.

stoli n coke: Oklahoma should probably be given back to the Indians. Even though I hate to think why they would want that tornado bait hellhole.

No problem, the Indians won't live in double-wides and trailer parks and will thus be spared the wrath of God.

Lorelle: StreetlightInTheGhetto: You're family has been here longer than mine (I'm 2nd gen) but I'm white and any folks in my family with accents have suppressed them or passed on so I don't have anything to worry about. That kind of sucks.

Same goes for my family. We have the reverse problem: most of us are brown, speak very little or no Spanish, and occasionally have to deal with shiat from down-home Messicans who call us pochos or coconuts (like Rudy in Born In East L.A.), and from non-Messicans who think we know Spanish but pretend not to speak it because we're ashamed of it. I have a slight Valley Girl accent, and my formal Spanish sucks. That doesn't matter to people like Arpaio, though, because all they see is a brown person who might be here illegally.

I have a very different problem than both of you. My mom is a white "gringa." My dad tho, he's Mexican. They met at a wedding, yada, yada, yada.. Because my dad had a company in Mexico, we used to live there. Since the hospitals where better on this side of the border, my sisters and me were born here in the US. So we are natural born citizens. I'm the only one in the family, besides my father, that has a think mexican accent. To make things worst, I have problems recognizing and pronouncing certain sounds. When I speak spanish, those mispronounced sounds (for example sh and ch) are not big of a deal, but they can be a huge problem when I speak English. I've been thinking about going to a speech therapist, but I haven't had the time nor do I know where to find one.

Many americans believe that I'm either south american or from spain. They are amazed that I used to live in Mexico. I blow their minds telling them that my dad had his own company, that my dad has a masters degree, and that my mom had to pay taxes to Uncle Sam even tho she wasn't living here in the US. If I tell them that I had a great life in Mexico, they don't believe me. In their defense, we lived in Mexico before the cartels took total control of the country and my dad made more money than most middle class americans.

As Arpaio testified in court, dozens of opponents protested outside, and four were arrested for blocking traffic. The four are undocumented immigrants from Mexico who came to the U.S. with their families...

Heh.

I am all for a fair trial and justice, but is it really fair to use Joe's own words against him? Arpaio? Sounds brown.

ox45tallboy: FTFA: "The fact that that type of work doesn't require any type of uhm you don't have to show an id, uhm, it would be easier, that type of work would be easier for uhm a person in this country illegally to uhm get because they wouldn't have the proper paperwork for other types of employment."

/does not approve

I recently re-watched this movie a month or so ago, and I think it holds up extremely well, especially in the current climate of looking down on brown people being a "socially acceptable" racism. Bigots now have someone they can feel as if they are better than, because they're "only racist against the illegal immigrants, not against all Messicans." And they're illegal.

Boy, oh boy, THIS.

And Cheech looks like Mario in that picture.

You're a bit optimistic, aren't you? I mean, I hope it's that high, but I'm currently at my sister's house in Alabama, two counties away from the "Christian Cross Lighting Ceremony" a couple of weeks ago. I can't say I've encountered that good of a percentage lately.

PC LOAD LETTER: GAT_00: Bloody William: Am I the only one who wouldn't mind seeing Joe Arpaio taking the Budd Dwyer retirement plan?

There's no way this cockbag wouldn't try to take out others. He doesn't even have the decency to off himself.

Did you look up the fact that Budd Dwyer offed himself and only himself before posting this?

I know who Budd Dwyer is. PA politican of some sort, offed himself at a press conference to keep from being convicted of ethics charges so his wife got his pension.

In addition, they can pass acts that cost money with a simple majority, but in order to raise revenues they need a super majority, so it's pretty commonplace to vote for expenses with out being able to pass acts for the corresponding revenues.

Doesn't California also have "ballot initiatives" which suffer from the same problem?

Not as such, AFAIK all ballot initiatives simply need to pass with majorities. The problem is getting enough people to vote yes on more taxes, Its much easier to her them to vote on more spending. Last election there was a ballot initiative to change the taxing majority in congress to be downgraded to a simple majority (like spending) but I don't believe it passed; short sighted idiots I for one voted yes on it. Of coutse

What hypocrasy...

Sherrif Joe being targeted for racism...by a group called LA RAZA (The Race)

Every group going against Sherrif Joe pushes the Racist ideas of Aztlan and Reconquista. This is nothing but Arpaio being lynched by the Hispanic Ku Klux Klan....using Black Racist Eric Holder as their point man. Sick

Well, that's what I meant. By gathering enough signatures in support of an idea, no matter how oddball, Californians can vote on proposed legislation, including legislation requiring spending, via a "Ballot Initiative" - even if the proposed law contains no method of funding (tax increase or spending cut elsewhere). If passed by simple majority vote, these initiatives become law and the Legislature must figure out a way to pay for them. It seems great when you're first presented with the idea, but in practice, it turns out to be a rather silly way to run a state government.

I'm guessing that the snowbirds register to vote in AZ, since elections are held while they're there, and thus the average voter for Arpaio is even older than he is.

hubiestubert: He also asked if I was being held against my will, despite the fact that we were all still wearing our chef's coats...

Apparently, we weren't supposed to mix after work...

That happened to my sister in Providence, RI... She's about as white as you can get without being see through and she was driving through one of the worst neighborhoods in Providence (Onleyville) with her co-worker, a black male. She was a Property Manager at the time and most of the properties she managed were Section 8 housing.

Anyway, they get pulled over by the Providence Cops for no reason... Apparently the cop was "just checking to make sure she wasn't being held against her will" by her co-worker.

I understand bad things happen all the time, but damn, that's got to be insulting and infuriating for someone, who just happens to be black or brown, going about their business.

My sister's co-worker took it in stride, but damn...

hubiestubert: As a former Maricopa resident, his department has a for Driving While Brown. Or Black.

I remember being stopped a while back, and the surprise of the officer who realized I was white in an '88 New Yorker. He then grew happier when he realized that there were a couple of brown and black folks in the car, and ran us through a few hoops to prove that we'd just gotten out of work and were headed home. He also asked if I was being held against my will,

Duh. Of course I'm being held against my will officer - by you.

Come on up to St. Louis. Between the city and the county, it's at least 77% retards. I may be being a bit harsh on the county...the city tends to throw the curve up a bit.

Ah, we'll see. I don't want to take away from the whole point of Fark. Besides, that thread took me something like 4 hours to put together. I have to do all the html formatting on the fly, because part of the fun is responding to other people in the thread. Arpaio repeatedly said he delegates those decisions.

If the county sheriff delegates all his authority to deputies, and swears on the stand that he has no responsibility for their actions .... then what the fark are they paying him for? He can draw up bad powerpoints for birthers from his own basement, on his own dime - he doesn't need a taxypaer funded office to do that. End the government waste!

2012-07-25 07:33:49 AM
Joe knows minorities get a bad rap. This is why he goes out of his way to preemptively clear them and wish them a nice day. Yes, in the process of clearing some of them he'll discover something wrong. But the point is, Joe doesn't set out to arrest those people and he doesn't profile for a nefarious reason. He's just trying to be nice.
