What a dumb f*cking name for a car.

Not one defined meaning nor connotation of the word "spade" makes me want to buy a car emblazoned with that name.

2012-07-24 11:57:00 PM
I didn't read the whole thread, excuse me if this has been discussed, but I think Honkey would be a good name for a car. Cracker, not so much. If Chevy took the Malibu, and separated the fleet version from the consumer version, and called the fleet version the Whitey, that might also work.

You know what would be a cool name for a car?

Toyota Adze.

Utterly meaningless in any other language, short, consonal, and it has a f*cking Z in it. Everything's cooler with an X or a Z in it.

What lame f*cking cheezedick pick "spade"?

Every word has been used to describe someone negatively at some point. Jalopnik hates Toyota, I'm sure the Chevy Spade, if it existed, would have gotten a playing card joke at best.

"Spade" to me means a type of wire connector / battery terminal. Yes, I'm an engineer.

Wow, I am realizing that I must be incredibly naive. I had no idea "spade" was a racial epithet. And some people mentioned upthread about "Monday," wtf is that about? I just don't know what to do. I guess I need to up my specific hatred of other people, I'm gonna be left out.

OK I read that and now I'm even more . . . confused isn't the right word. . . amazed, I guess.
I shouldn't be though. I didn't even know about "monkey" until a few years ago.

If I may make a csb:
The funniest joke I had ever heard was a two-parter. "Why did the monkey fall out of the tree? Because it was dead." For some reason, that touched some twisted corner of my brain so that I would laugh so hard I could barely spit out the second part, "Why did the frog fall out of the tree? It was stapled to the monkey." Anyway, a group of us were telling jokes in crew's mess one day and I told that one, and after the first part one of the ELTs says, "HA! N***** got what was comin' to him!" which stopped me in my tracks. I stood with my mouth open for a minute before I could ask what the f*** he was talking about. One of the other guys there (who I already knew was a total racist) finally explained to me that "monkey" was a racial slur. At that point I just walked away. And I haven't been able to laugh at that joke since, which is too bad because it really was the funniest thing I had ever heard.

Anyway I'm not sure where I'm going with this, except that there's a whole world of meanings to things that I've never even conceived of. It's a little troubling to think that I might be using derogatory language and not even realizing it.

I've known a few real racists in my life and it's exactly like you said, "matter of fact, no thought whatsoever, lol". There's nothing you can do about it, you either accept it or walk away. They're not going to change in the next five minutes. They're generally really good people but that shiat was ingrained in them when they were young. Some are apologetic about it, but they can't help it as it's so much a part of them. Pretty farked up...

Except if they recognize it, they can help it. We aren't immutable creatures. If a person realizes that they're doing something wrong, then they ought to farking fix it. It may take time, but simply saying "Well-hyuck! That's how I was raised!" is simply shirking responsibility for one's behavior.

It's time... for another CSB!

in World of Warcraft I knew somebody who tried to make a character named "Spooks", going with the idea that it was a 'cute' name for a character that used 'fear' magic. Naturally the filter rejected it so she (yes, she, a girl in WoW, shocking) asked Bliz what was up. It was funny because she had no idea and freaked out when they told her why.
