So this is why they don't have to pay taxes, right? I guess that makes sense then.

A measly EPS of $9.32 for the quarter? Those farkin' losers.

"Wall Street expected Apple to ship 29 million iPhones during the June quarter and actual iPhone shipments came in at just 26 million units"

Only 26 million? Ouch!

Yeah, I'm sure they're hurting. Poor guys.

Good time to pick up AAPL shares.. Donno why everyone freaks on lower sales right before impending new iPhone releases

I think it's going to be uglier next quarter. I'm selling about one iPhone for every dozen or so Android phones. The demand for the Samsung Galaxy SIII is amazing. The iPhone 5 is going to have to be something absolutely phenomenal for Apple to get their market back. This is for Verizon, mind you. AT&T's iPhone numbers are much higher, I'm sure.

Weird, much bigger than Big Oil companies, sitting on over a hundred billion in cash, produces gimmicky toys nobody really needs, massive outsourcer....

Liberals love em.

They still made 8.8 billion dollars this quarter. Yes, made, as in profit, not revenue...

Even with the dividend, the 100+ billion dollar cash pile still grew..

Yes, a disappointed AAPL long,,

Don't cry for me, still way up.

Stock prices reflect expectations. When those expectations aren't realized, the stock adjusts immediately to reflect reality combined with whatever future expectations now are.

I'm not worried. I hear the iPhone 5 comes with all iTunes updates for the next decade already installed and Siri flirts with you if you order delivery for five consecutive days. There's even rumors that some exclusive models will be available that will include a strand of Steve Jobs' hair that is shellacked into the case. It makes the shape of the Apple logo.

the only updates that cost money are the .5 up grades. So going from 12.1 to 12.2 is free, but going from 12.0 to 12.5 costs money.

But i see you don't care about that.

When your fame and fortune comes from non-stop growth, ouch. Apple have been here before with the original Mac. Brilliant design, excellent interface, stop innovating, sales plateau, rivals get ahead, try to sue them away, fail, plummet in the market.

2012-07-24 05:19:04 PM
Down $30/share because they didn't meet expectations set out by investors who more or less assume what the company should actually make.

And we wonder why banks and investment firms are usually the beginning of our financial collapses.

I hate Apple too, but "I have a very narrow range of experience with a small part of their revenue stream and admit another gigantic and possibly game-changing product release is right around the corner but still THEY'RE FARKED" doesn't seem like sound financial advice.

Nem Wan: Wall Street analysts? Who are these guys? What purpose do they serve? Who cares what they think?

They're the advisors to the wealthy people (and more importantly pension and mutual funds) who own most of the large companies in America. Companies are valued by what it earn over say 10-30 years (Apple and other growing companies are at the longer end of that range, more predictable companies are at the shorter end of that range). Their collective forecasts for those earnings are valuable enough that the wealthy people basically price things at those expectations (until something like today means they will change). Big enough funds will have their own analysts, as well, but that's pretty expensive.

The thought is you are paying for a service pack which is free on Windows. I too have a mac. It is of my opinion and therefore I will concur that apple charges for a service pack and calls it a new OS and charges money for it.

If you don't tell the apple associate what OS you're upgrading from you can go from just about any OS X versions to the new one with the $29 disc.

AT&T: 3.7M iphones out of 5.1M smartphones (72%)
verizon: 2.7M iphones out of 5.6M smarthpones (48%)

is there any other single vendor that makes up that much of a percentage of sales? hint: don't say 'android', android is not a vendor.

They never lost their market to begin with. Their numbers have risen steadily since the first iPhone was unveiled.

And if you want to see ugly, wait til people have had time to realize what fragmentation fatigue is in the Android market. It will take a few years but just like people who realize they've been served a shiat sandwich with Windows for over 2 decades and moved to OSX, the Android fatigue will push people to the iPhone and iOS over time.

People 'hate' on Apple and then a bunch of people get all bent out of shape about it. They get mad because someone insults a corporation. Now that's sad.

Meh, I've had both. I finally got the ICS update for my Galaxy SII. Some nice updates but it's not like I was pining for it for a year and I see no need to move to an SIII anytime soon.
