Seriously, it would have killed them to start with season 3? Who's decision was this?

Oh, come on. One can never get enough of Encounter at Farpoint. And in high definition Blu-Ray? Think of how crisp the space jellyfish will look on your screen.

DamnYankees: Seriously, it would have killed them to start with season 3? Who's decision was this?

At least with Dark Shadows, they started with the Barnabas Collins episodes, and then backfilled with "Dark Shadows: In the Beginning".

Last night, they showed "Where No One Has Gone Before" and "Datalore" on movie screens as part of the Blu-Ray release. Not bad, but it reminded me how much Season 1 was flawed:

* Big on orchestral cues and people staring intently
* Troi and Geordi as humanoid tricorders for feelings and visualizing
* Wesley instigating himself into situations ("Datalore" had the famous "Shut Up, Wesley!" lines)
* Riker without the beard but a rod up his butt

Best part was during "Where No One..." and Kozinski was rambling like a certain theoretical physicist on a CBS sitcom, and someone in the crowd yelled out, "Shut up, Sheldon!"

You know there's probably several hundred thousand people out there who just HAVE to have a complete 7 season set.

Sure, but the order the seasons come out in is irrelevant for that purpose.

The one thing I hated about the first season is that Worf looked silly. But still, it's ST:TNG.

The problem with the remastered graphics for TNG is that the costumes and the props look so fake now. I was watching the TNG preview disc and the Klingon Armor look like gray painted vinyl.

Wow. That hits the nail in the head. Now I can rest in peace, since I've never been able to articulate why this old-man make-up bothered me so much.

kingoomieiii: This is possibly the worst old-man makeup ever put to film. He looks like a marionette on Thunderbirds. I CAN SEE THE STRINGS.

The makeup budget was tight and they had to resort to using Silly Putty. There's a hilarious outtake where the actor fell asleep on a newspaper and ended up with a distorted copy of Family Circus on his cheek.

Now that I look at it in a still, it's sort of okay, but it was really ruined by their need to have a young actor play the character (as he de-ages through several stages of old-man makeup). The guy was utterly unconvincing, and his gravely old-man voice was terrible.

2012-07-24 03:28:23 PM
No mention of Code of Honor yet? The most racist episode of Star Trek ever.

I'm hoping they keep putting these seasons out without too much regard of sales for Season 1. I'll be getting all the seasons as a completist, but I can see a lot of people waiting until the third season to bother with them.

Nope. She got space-raped by a glowing ball of energy.

Not to be confused with the times she got telepath-raped. Or found out she had a dead sister.

Come to think of it, Troi really did have some bad shiat happen to her over the course of the series.

"Too Short a Season". An old Starfleet admiral the Enterprise is transporting has some anti-aging cure. So they had to use a young actor and use make-up to make him appear old at the beginning.

Erm, considering how old he was I have to wonder how much of it was facial prosthetics and how much was just the make up team enhancing what was already there. He did have a fairly craggy face to begin with ya know?

It wasn't a demon baby. "Demon" implies lawful evil. It was a chaotic good alien wanting to learn more about being human.

I agree.

When I was growing up I got a CD for my birthday that had the most memorable soundtracks from TNG. The haunting flute melody from "The Inner Light" was among them. I generally rock out to Savatage and Bruce Dickinson/Iron Maiden, but that melody caught me.

Durring the move to texas I lost the CD. Don't know why I never ripped it like my other CDs

For a shapeshifter, Odo really didn't do much shapeshifting. DS9's budget was pretty low, so they have to save up for the two or three times a season that Odo might have to do any sort of morphing.
