Dinjiin: SlothB77: what he will continue to do is delegitimize the success and hard work and risk incurred by business owners

Except that what he said was true.

If a person has a great idea, eventually they are going to need to rely upon others to get that idea to frustration. They will probably need employees to help execute the idea. They will also need the government, may it be transportation, utilities, law enforcement, fire protection, trademarks, patents, and schools (for a new generation of employees).

If I came up with the idea for Facebook in 1995, how good do you think it would have done me if I lived in Somalia?

Sure, in the end you need the person with the great idea. But many of these people have gotten big heads. Their idea doesn't mean shiat without a stable place for commerce with a good pool of local talent to draw upon.

I think you've hit on something here. Getting an idea to frustration can easily be accomplished by a single individual, often without even trying. It's getting it to fruition that takes the team to do.

Serious Black: Graffito: smitty04: What's missing is the obvious implications. If you didn't build it, we can take it from you. It's not theft; it's restitution. You didn't build the roads and bridges and Internet. You didn't educate your workers in government illiteracy factories (but you did get to finance the foregoing through your taxes). So you don't deserve a six-figure income.

No. They are saying that the intrepid entrepreneurs should pay taxes as compensation for the infrastructure that they've used and will continue to use in order for their business to survive.

What about interdependence frightens you so?

Interdependence requires trust, and the reactionary regressive mindset has been stoked for over 30 years into fearing everything and destroying the bedrocks of trust.

It's also the logical conclusion to the divide-and-conquer approach the GOP has been using on its own base for the past few decades. Divide people into small enough groups through lies and bespoke boogeymen, and eventually everyone is fundamentally afraid of everyone else. That may also explain (in part) why the teabaggers are so extra-extra irrational: they're in a constant state of internal conflict over a multitude of mutually exclusive fears. That's got to be confusing as hell.

/An oversimplification, I know, but it's a contributing factor for sure.

DrD'isInfotainment: Murdoch knows the jig is up. He's talking about pulling out of Great Britain altogether, after his two principle assistance in UK were indicted today on very serious charges. Murdoch knows his empire is coming down like ...well.. you know, and FOXNews may not be not far from disappearing altogether given the FBI investigation going on right now. With that, the American Political Landscape will change considerably.

Mark my words.

Not going to happen. The GOP is not going to give up their propaganda outlet easily.

It's ironic because the point was right here: "But no one would use facebook back then."

And you were way over there.

I heard that Mitt Romney likes lemonade. Is he going to visit their stand?

NateGrey: Romney bought the lemonade stand and made them build a stage so he could announce they are closing operations and moving the business across the street.

But after that press conference, Romney sold the stage to Jimmy for 50 cents on the dollar to make a tree house, Billy got most of the stand for even less to make a skateboard ramp, and Mitt drank the rest of the lemonade and kept the cigar box with $3.14 in it. Everybody on the block applauded his business acumen, except for the girls who were going to use that money to buy a couple of music downloads. They just cried, and from what I hear, pay 5 cents a week to a therapist named Lucy.

SlothB77: Look, I get Obama is saying government built the roads and bridges (and they funded those with tax dollars collected from businesses and workers). But if all you needed to be a successful business was to throw a road in front of it, why are so many businesses unsuccessful? Take an unsuccessful business. It is just sitting there. All we need to do is throw a road and bridge in front of it and all of a sudden it will be successful? Nope. Absolutely not.

This is a really stupid argument. Of course good business acumen is necessary - in fact, it will tell you to put the business next to the road. The idea that Obama thinks ONLY gov't is necessary is just as retarded as thinking that ONLY entrepreneurship is necessary. Simplify any more and we'll have to consult a couple of lemonade stand owners... ah, hell, never mind.

SlothB77: The fact is, five people open five restaurants on a road. Two go out of business. Three become successful because they provide great food with great service in a pleasant atmosphere at a reasonable price. Let's demonize them. Their success can only be attributed to the help they got, the collective and the road.

Like it or not the infrastructure (ie: road) has a large part in determining the success of a business.

Just look at what happens to a business when the road it's on undergoes major road construction. It doesn't matter what kind of service it provides, if a customer can't get to it easily, they just won't go.

Any more stupid talking points from right-wing radio today?

Stop being silly. It's a COMPLETE COINCIDENCE that the FedEx ground distribution center in my area was built a couple hundred feet off of a highway that is a mile away from the big interstate.

I know what you mean.

It's a TOTAL COINCIDENCE that quite a few of my suppliers are in Indianapolis which just happens to have 4 Interstates running through it and within a day's drive of over half of the country.

Even if the Fox News building and every employee they have were raptured away in the blink of an eye, there would be a new "Fox News" to take its place inside of 6 months.

The demand is there. Someone will fill it.

"Location location location" is just something stupid libs say because they aren't smart enough to run a successful business in the woods down a dirt road.

Hey guys, let it go. If this is the only thing they can complain about Obama, then they got nothing.

Anybody-but-Obama voters don't care about facts. They know what he really said, they just don't care.

Let them work themselves into a frothy mixture and watch their anybody not get elected.

Romney has nothing to run on. Not his successes as a liberal governor, not his successes as a corporate raider. He's got nothing and he'll get nothing.
