theorellior: gimmegimme: Were the lemons grown on an orchard owned by someone who receives farm subsidies?

That photo always makes me larf. "Cut taxes not defense"? How the fark is our giant defense industry paid for besides taxes? I wonder if that woman realizes the DoD *doesn't* have bake sales to finance bomber purchases.

We've been selling advertising space on the sides of our bombers and ICBMs since 1998, didn't you know? Very lucrative side-business.

What's missing is the obvious implications. If you didn't build it, we can take it from you. It's not theft; it's restitution. You didn't build the roads and bridges and Internet. You didn't educate your workers in government illiteracy factories (but you did get to finance the foregoing through your taxes). So you don't deserve a six-figure income.

Yea all by themselves, why watching them pave the road the customers used to get to the stand, grab buckets and get some water from the creek 2 miles away and shovel coal into the furnace to power the fridge so they could freeze some water to make ice was inspirational. Yep entirely by themselves.

SlothB77: Look, I get Obama is saying government built the roads and bridges (and they funded those with tax dollars collected from businesses and workers). But if all you needed to be a successful business was to throw a road in front of it, why are so many businesses unsuccessful? Take an unsuccessful business. It is just sitting there. All we need to do is throw a road and bridge in front of it and all of a sudden it will be successful? Nope. Absolutely not.

Yes, excellent point, good sir. You missed the part where the road contributes 100% to the success of the business. mostly it's up to the owner, which is why they keep a larger portion of the revenue than the evil government man.

Can you think more than one farking move ahead?

vpb: Conservatives are a lot like Marxists in a way. Marxists tried to give labor 100% of the credit and ignored the role of capital, and conservatives do the exact opposite.

Damn, that's an excellent observation. And probably one of the reasons the Conservatives attempt to demonize us dirty libs so much is b/c they can't stand their own blind and naive idealology. It's projection at it's finest. It's a closeted gay guy trying to limit the rights of other gay men in a round about sort of way. A reach around sort of way, if you know what i mean.

kbronsito: Are lemons purchased at a supermarket (can we then assume those lemons reached the supermarket in a truck that drove on a public roads)? Did their parents drive on similar roads to reach the supermarket?

Were the lemons grown on a farm that operates with government subsidized cop insurance or were they imported via a trade agreement negotiated by our government who also inspected the produce to make sure it wasn't contaminated?

Even if these two CHILDREN running a LEMONADE STAND actually hadn't received help [they had], the point remains...so what?

Although Fox having to go to children to find such a story does jive well with their contention that a majority of Americans don't pay taxes when you take age out of the equation...

Interdependence requires trust, and the reactionary regressive mindset has been stoked for over 30 years into fearing everything and destroying the bedrocks of trust.

SlothB77: The fact is, five people open five restaurants on a road. Two go out of business. Three become successful because they provide great food with great service in a pleasant atmosphere at a reasonable price. Let's demonize them. Their success can only be attributed to the help they got, the collective and the road. And because of that, they should pay more taxes, which will be redistributed by the government to the two restaurants on the same road that failed.

You've just described the professional sports model.

So, let's take the government is the problem to the complete illogical extreme.

1. You (probably) wouldn't be reading this post because even if private business DID develop select internets, there's not guarentee you would be on the right one.
2. You might not even have power. Depending on where you live, your power company might not have received a benefit to run power out to less urban locaitons.
3. Your dwelling wouldn't have a building code, which means it might be more likely to flood, catch fire, fall down, and all sorts of other problems. Speaking of that. Unless you have a contract with private emergency services(which wouldn't be enforcable) if something did happen to your house, well, it could get terrible.
4. You would have to either drive on dirt(mud) or pay a toll to drive on private roads to get anywhere, like work.
5. Your working conditions would be only as regulated as your company wants them to be. If your boss decides that guardrails aren't important, or people are leaving through fire exits, or you need to be chained to your desk, your boss could do that.
6. Even if you survived your week, there's nothing that says your boss has to pay you properly, or at all.

Without government, we would be a scattered group of people controled by sociopaths. As it stands, we could do with some trimming here and there for government, and we could also do with some streamlining.

Murdoch knows the jig is up. He's talking about pulling out of Great Britain altogether, after his two principle assistance in UK were indicted today on very serious charges. Murdoch knows his empire is coming down like ...well.. you know, and FOXNews may not be not far from disappearing altogether given the FBI investigation going on right now. With that, the American Political Landscape will change considerably.

Mark my words.
