Not gonna happen for her. She was a cute kid, and a reasonably decent actress. But she only had about a year or two of being an attractive woman before the drugs and the plastic surgery took over. Once you add in the inaccurate-but-true Hollywood "fact" that women over thirty are mostly only cast to play the mother of the ingenue-du-jour? Sorry. Stick a fork in her.

For his part, Downey has always been good-looking, and even though he's older, he's aged a LOT better. And, he's a man, so he'll work as long as he wants to.

Look, what I'm saying sucks, but it's also true. So, whatever.

basemetal: Well, RDJ always had the talent, it was his sobriety and dependability in question.

/and insurability
//LiLo is quite questionable in those categories
///but I guess she can still get a job here and there, so good for her

His wife has hired someone who follows him around and keeps him out of trouble and away from other shiat that will end his career, since 2005. Downey doesn't have the power to fire this person. That helped him turn his career around. He's talked aout it in a few interviews. He's lucky to have someone who cares about him and keeps him straight.

coco ebert: Yeah see, he's actually talented and he had done a lot more before his downfall than her.

Also, he seems to legitimately realize he got a second chance and is doing good with it.

Love me some RDJ. He's one of the few stars who realized he got a second chance, and embraced it.

Sorry, but women can have a long careers in Hollywood IF and only IF they make themselves known for their talent over their looks. So many starlets are chosen because they are the pretty "it" girl. However, they have the acting ability of a rock. So, once their looks fade, so do their careers. But if you are known for being able to act in anything like say Meryl Streep or Helen Mirren then you can have a career right into and through your 60's. The problem is most movie casting directors will almost always go for the pretty girl over the talented girl. Though for stage, the opposite is true. Looks won't get your a career but talent will. I think it's because since your face isn't on a some giant screen, people care less about how flawless your skin is and instead want to see how well you can capture a live audience.

Everyone pretty much summed it all up:

He was a great actor before his downfall--way better than Lohan.
He's a guy, so has more options as he ages.
He did small movies before Ironman to prove he was reliable.*
He genuinely values his current success.
He basically played himself in Tony Stark, which was brilliant casting.
He's still one of the best actors out there, and that takes hard work.

*Which Lohan is messing up big-time with her lame Liz Taylor TV movie--possibly her last chance.

Optimal_Illusion: Don't forget, RDJr plays a character who has also hit bottom, and has fought back to the top. "Demon In A Bottle" is still one of the most important stories in Iron Man's history.

don't forget Less than Zero... where he was addicted and so far in debt that his dealer was pimping him out as a male prostitute... I'd say that'shiatting pretty close to bottom.

Have you seen/felt/touched both their anuses?

If not, how can you make such a claim?

No I haven't. I'm going by taste.

It's kind of a bummer he bottomed out when he did, because he was pretty good in Ally McBeal.

Of course, he was on so many drugs, that explains why he was on Ally McBeal in the first place.

But damned if he hasn't made the most of his second chance.

Also, RDJ had time to have a second chance. Lohan really won't. Her career is based on her looks. Each year, her looks fade a little more and her window of opportunity as an actress shrinks. RDJ didn't have that problem.

This. You better believe he's a professional when he shows up to work. For all the prima donnaism of Hollywood actors, the real stars know they need to get sh*t done and done right. That provides longevity.
