3) he didn't say it explicitly, but he implied it and is too much of a pussy to own up to it

This is why we need disclosure.

No! Disclosure will STIFLE SPEECH! What if an old millionaire wants to give $5,000,000 to the KKK? What, We're going to SHAME HIM by having that list somewhere?!

Idea: If you are seriously worried about the social implications of giving $10,000+ to a farking hate group like Focus on the Family, DON'T GIVE $10,000+ TO HATE GROUPS LIKE FOCUS ON THE FAMILY.

Because the Ancient Hebrews were trying to establish a society by pumping out a greater population so that they could both grow as quickly as possible and defend themselves from local enemies, actually a "traditional marriage" in the Old Testament sense involves me banging like three or four wives except for when I kick them out of the house when they're menstruating.

So yeah, that's a pretty sweet deal for me.

2012-07-24 02:15:46 PM
Cathy wasn't asked specifically asked about gay marriage nor did he say anything about it

From the original article:

Some have opposed the company's support of the traditional family. "Well, guilty as charged," said Cathy when asked about the company's position.

"We are very much supportive of the family -- the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.

Yeah, I can't imagine what they were talking about. "Traditional family?" That could mean ANYTHING.
If you say there is opposition to that support, I can't imagine who might be involved.

"We don't claim to be a Christian business," Cathy told the Biblical Recorder in a recent visit to North Carolina. He attended a business leadership conference many years ago where he heard Christian businessman Fred Roach say, "There is no such thing as a Christian business."

...

"In that spirit ... [Christianity] is about a personal relationship. Companies are not lost or saved, but certainly individuals are," Cathy added. "But as an organization we can operate on biblical principles. So that is what we claim to be. [We are] based on biblical principles, asking God and pleading with God to give us wisdom on decisions we make about people and the programs and partnerships we have. And He has blessed us."

...

The company invests in Christian growth and ministry through its WinShape Foundation.

They aren't a Christian company - the company is just run on "biblical principles," they ask God for help with partnerships they have (and apparently he gives it - thus 'He has blessed us') and just happens to invest in Christian ministry.

randomjsa: That's not much better but really, if you know anything at all about the press, and about liberals, and particularly when you combine the two.

So the statement had to be taken and twisted

Those liberals at FreeRepublic have "twisted" his words too!

"We operate as a family business ... our restaurants are typically led by families; some are single. We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that," Cathy emphasized.

"We intend to stay the course," he said. "We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles."
...
I love Chick-fil-A. Who else in business does it quite like the Chicks restaurants. "Guilty as charged!" Awesome.
...
One is opening in my town next month, so I'll finally get a chance to patronize their store.
...
Bring back the Blue Law...
...

God Bless Mr. Cathy!

I really wish I liked their food. I may just have to try harder.

Love the company and their ideals and courage and honesty, though.
...
While already a fan of Chick-fil-A, we'll now go out of our way to patronize this restaurant!
...
This is how our institutions and leaders must respond. No mincing words or parsing meanings. No shading truth or inclusive language. Straight-up and out front, baby!

Way to go Chcik-fil-A!

I'll add this:

"It's very clear in Romans chapter 1, if we look at society today, we see all the twisted up kind of stuff that's going on. Washington trying to redefine the definition of marriage and all the other kinds of things that we go-if you go upstream from that, in Romans chapter 1, you will see that because we have not acknowledged God and because we have not thanked God, that we have been left victim to the foolishness of our own thoughts, and as result, we are suffering the consequences of a society and culture who has not acknowledged God or not thanked God-he's left us to a deprived mind. It's tragic and we live in a culture of that today.""
- Dan Cathy

"...I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say 'we know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage' and I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about"
-Dan Cathy

He didn't mention same-sex marriage, so obviously he isn't talking about same-sex marriage.

Maybe he's just angry that we "redefined" marriage when we legalized interracial marriage and waited until recently to bring it up.

I'll defend him on this point only. The full quote makes it clear that he doesn't buy Romney's corporations-are-people-my-friends bullshiat:

"He attended a business leadership conference many years ago where he heard Christian businessman Fred Roach say, "There is no such thing as a Christian business."

"That got my attention," Cathy said. Roach went on to say, "Christ never died for a corporation. He died for you and me."

I've always wondered why the iconic Christian image is a skinny, victimized man.

I'm aware of the usual explanation of Christ dying for our sins, and all, but the take-away image is still a crucified Jesus not a mighty resurrected Jesus rolling the boulder away from his tomb. Why the emphasis on victimhood?

When will you Philistines stop persecuting God-fearing Christians, and let them say whatever they want without consequences? All Mr. Cathy was trying to say is that his business is better than others because God favors him and his, and that people who do not follow God's Laws are sinners who will suffer eternal damnation. If you are going to spout off a controversial political or religious opinion don't be surprised when people don't agree with you and don't want you associated with them. He can absolutely say and believe anything he likes he just is not protected against the consequences of that speech in the public arena.
