HotWingConspiracy: Madbassist1: Jake Havechek: I find the bullshiat how an armed patron in the theatre could have taken this guy down before major casualties occurred is bullshiat.

There's no telling how people react in a situation like that. It could have been over by the time you gathered your wits enough to draw, or worse, in the darkness you would have killed other moviegoers instead of the doer.

Yup thats all true. So instead of attempting to stop him, just lay down and die like a good boy. Thx!!

Or run. The survivors had to run from the legal gun owner.

Ok, I'll bite. So, poof! Guns are illegal. What happens when this guy shoots up a movie theater then? Or do you actually think gun laws would keep him from buying guns? Yes, they would be slightly more difficult to purchase. And since he's obviously someone that would be deterred by an inconvenience, I guess he'd move on to his next idea right?

IAMTHEINTARWEBS: oldfarthenry: Face it, bullet-heads - Sideshow Bob SHOT all those innocent people - with a gun. He didn't blow them up with homemade grenades.
No, but he tried. Did you not RTFA?
He tried to kill people with guns and homemade bombs. He was unsuccesful with the bombs. Bombs made with gasoline.

He tried to kill people with gasoline so all you gasoline-heads need to shut up while we ban that dangerous scourge known as gasoline.
Oh, wait. Homemade bombs made with anything are already illegal.
How is it possible that he made bombs if that is illegal?
I thought making things illegal prevented them from happening.

You can hate guns all you like. It won't make you any safer. (hating the gun owners is just bad form on your part)
Not riding in cars will be more likely to improve your safety than banning guns.
Anybody got the numbers on auto deaths vs gun deaths?

READ-MY-F**KING-POST - I didn't say anything about hating or banning guns. I just sick of assholes who freak-out at the `liberal' media for posting photos of guns when referring to a mass-shooting.

probesport: CapeFearCadaver: Mr. Breeze: CapeFearCadaver: Mr. Breeze: Muta: When is the gun community going to do something to prevent people like Holmes from killing innocent people?

Yeah.

And I'd just like to point out that grenades are already highly illegal but this guy somehow had 30 of them.

I'm sure gun laws would have stopped him from procuring any...

TFA points out the fact that they were homemade grenades.

I know, but homemade or not they are still illegal.

It's also illegal to take guns into a movie theatre and kill people...
:P

FTFY

While correct, the particular Cinema where this took place had a no firearms policy in place. So, illegal on all counts.

I never advocated for a gun ban. Try again.

ourbigdumbmouth: Isn't it a little disrespectful to the legal process and to the victims to call this guy Sideshow Bob?

No. I look at it like what Mel Brooks did in The Producers with Springtime for Hitler. Make the guy out to be an idiot. He wants to known as The Joker, a name that exudes infamy. So instead let's give him the last nickname he'd want. It's like in The Green Mile. The Sam Rockwall character wanted to be known as Billy the Kid. He got furious when the guards called him Wild Bill, so of course that became his new nickname.

hdhale: HotWingConspiracy: griffer: The police credit armed civilians returning fire. These citizens provided suppression fire that reduced the casualties that day. But I am sure you don't remember that.

I'm sure that's comforting to the dead. Somehow I imagine they'd rather just not get shot by a legal gun owner.

1. Firearms will never be banned in this country. Even if they were, they would be smuggled in from elsewhere and the whack jobs would have more soft targets to hit, not less.

I've never advocated a ban.

2. People are broken, not the weapons. We need to spend more on mental health in this country

I like that suddenly this is just common knowledge amongst gun owners. I especially like that they mostly align with the party that hates healthcare and thinks that mental people are just grifters.

3. Stop playing the "piles of dead bodies, think of the children!" card. It stopped working a decade ago. You sound like an "anti-abortion no matter what" protestor.

It's a pendulum. Do you really think people and politicians are going to sit around and let this happen every few months in perpetuity? Harsh regs are coming, and we'll all be better off for it.

Giving the guy a name - any name - only makes him more immortal. Remember that guy who shot up that theater? Oh! Sideshow Bob! Remember the people who died in that theater shooting? ....No, I can't quite remember. Which shooting again? No, doesn't ring any bells.

Stop making it about the shooter. Besides, professionalism dictates using the name given to the court. Not that fark should be professional and all, but that fark should be above childish slap fighting.

Every time I see this guy and his dopey hair and that spaced-out look on his face, I imagine his thought process when dying his hair only involved how cool and "movie-like" it would look to have orange hair with guns blazing away (he probably even imagined a slight breeze blowing through his curly locks, forgetting that the gas mask would cover up most of his hair). He never thought about how it would look in a courtroom with 4 days of stubble on his chin and dark circles under his bulging eyes. Or, if he did think about the courtoom, he neglected to consider that every weird-o bad guy in a blockbuster comic-book movie has about three hours of hair and makeup before they start fiming every day; Heath Ledger's Joker had that crazed, smeared look, which was actually carefully applied make-up augmented by professional lighting and costumes. This guy really thought that this event was going to be just like a scene from a movie and he would have that insane yet heroic look that great actors and movie technicians can convey. Pathetic.

I heard he was with the Occupy movement, and that George Soros personally recommended to him the AR15 clip that ended up jamming.

Difference between a bad real estate deal and this - you can walk away from a bad real estate deal. You'll be a little worse for wear, but you can survive it.

Try telling that to the woman who lost her 6-year old daughter and will never walk again.

As for sitting in a classroom for gun safety - people who now give flying lessons are given a set of rules and behaviors to look for from people. Why not the same for gun instructors?

HotWingConspiracy: Harsh regs are coming, and we'll all be better off for it.

Describe these regs, of prescient one.

What will they be? Ban crappy beta mags, when there already a million+ out there? Ban bulk ammo purchases? Watch the NRA (which I do not support) crush that.

More laws to make it illegal to carry guns in public places? Cause the one was in force totally stopped him.

Tighter screening and interviewing? Fine. But it wouldn't have flagged a per-med student with no record.

Competency exams? I support these, but it just would have made him a better shooter.

And finally, I have no intention of committing suicide, but you really show the humanitarian in you.

I think this is more about you wanting the government to step in a control the world so you aren't so scared and horrified by it.

Suck to see that the human condition is in fact, horrid. People are ignorant, hateful, scrabbling things, on the whole, who have to struggle not to be.

You can't stand what you see, because you are afraid it is the same as what stares back at you in the mirror in the morning.

There are more accidental shootings than Aurora, by far, this will help. But I think it would only have the Aurora criminal a better shooter.

While we're at it how about a license to breed?

Who takes their 6 year old or a 3 year old to a R rated violent movie at midnight.

Theres no telling what all this violence on TV and in movies and misogynistic lyrics in songs could do to a child.

Because flying isn't an enumerated constitutional right. Owning weapons (including firearms) is a protected individual right, so you've got to have a damn good reason to prevent someone from exercising it.

Interesting to me that many of the same people who want to legalize drugs also want to make guns illegal. Instead of outlawing drugs, they want to treat the root cause of the problem, which is addiction. But with guns they take the opposite stance. Never mind addressing the root cause of violence in America. JUST GRAB THE GUNS!

I guess it all started with my mom. See, she had always wanted a girl and wouldn't let me wear Toughskins like the other kids. As you can imagine, trying to play football in a tea length dress was difficult. I mean, sure, it was pretty...a nice yellow chiffon, but the other boys always tried to peek beneath. And so I looked to my Uncle Bill for companionship, only Uncle Bill only wanted to show me his Matchbox car collection and give me Kool-Aid that had a funny taste to it and made me dizzy. So that's when I started to collect animals...hey, how much time do I have left?

Yup thats all true. So instead of attempting to stop him, just lay down and die like a good boy. Thx!!

Most shooting sprees last under 5 minutes, so figure it out, Superman. Like most people you would have pissed your pants and ran.

you dont know how long 5 minutes is, obviously. More than enough time to put a bullet in the brain. Since I do not (nor ever intend to) own a handgun, you are 100% right on your second point though.

gadian: stonicus: I get the idea he planned on killing himself afterwards, then pussied out. He clearly didn't intend on going back to his apartment. Didn't have supplies or ID to run away. He planned on dying... then changed his mind.

I think he planned on a sensationalized trial and being the topic of conversation for weeks. It seems like he wants the attention. He wants people to know him. I don't think he ever wanted to die. And he won't, really.

That is just as plausible... I do think something happened in his mentality when he went back to his car and his mental direction changed, which is why he disclosed the bombs in his apartment. Brief moment of clairty perhaps?
