I would have picked a different name, but I totally agree with the idea.

This guy is the typical attention-seeker who couldn't get anyone to pay attention..... so he did something stupid and affected a lot of people. It has been said that he believes he's in a movie. Why give him any attention? He wants to be famous.... even in a bad way. I would rather humiliate him as much as possible. Even if he doesn't get on the internet, someone in jail will eventually tell him what's being said about him. Let him hear jokes about his looks and actions. Make him feel as pathetic as he is....

And the hair does look idiotic. Sideshow Bob is a good match.

James!: The Stealth Hippopotamus: James!: He was probably hoping to kill some cops with it.

But he had guaranteed kills that the theater if he used them there. By not using them there he has to admit that he took into consideration harm to himself. That wouldn't help his insanity defense. If they really go with the "he thought he was the Joker" consideration of harming himself shouldn't have factored into the attack.

Hope they get a comic book nerd on the jury. There is no way "I was acting like the Joker" will fly with anyone that knows anything about the Joker.

I think he was planning on using the insanity defense, but he isn't actually insane. You're right though he's not as smart as he thinks he is. I doubt he'll get an insanity plea. He'll probably get the death penalty.

I think he was hoping that some cops would just break the door down at his apartment and he'd have a whole new set of bodies.

He actually thought the police would answer a noise complaint. He must have no common sense.

Contrabulous Flabtraption: Geez Sheeple, are we really going to do this sideshow bob thing just cuz Drew said so? Sorry Drew but it's not even remotely clever.

And, as Sideshow Bob himself lamented, he never actually succeeded in killing anybody...that was part of the (Simpsons) joke...he was ineffective as he was brilliant. This guy, not so much.

How does Illinois CCW law prevent someone from stopping a killing spree in Colorado?

Same could be said for you. Colorado is a gun happy state with relatively easy CCW permitting.

The Theater, on the other hand, considered itself a gun free zone.

Aside from that, most hones analyses make it pretty clear that more guns would only have meant more casualties.

And yes, Einstein... I'm militarily trained in weapons use.

The fact is there needs to be reasonable regulations on purchasing gasoline. The founding fathers had no way of knowing that just anyone can walk to a gas station and purchase 10 gallons of gas to fill their high capacity assault can.

I find the bullshiat how an armed patron in the theatre could have taken this guy down before major casualties occurred is bullshiat.

There's no telling how people react in a situation like that. It could have been over by the time you gathered your wits enough to draw, or worse, in the darkness you would have killed other moviegoers instead of the doer.

vegasj: Giltric: One of these reporters should carry around 1000 rounds of ammo and then get back to us on how easy it would be to kill alot of people while humping 30+ pounds of ammo....hell 6000 rounds, loose, weighs 180+ pounds.

the large number of bullets sounds very very scary....but in practicality you don;t carry it around.

no kidding. When I buy online I have to find "free shipping"... cause 1000+ rounds by mail gets expensive

Ah, the guy with theory that the President is secretly working the black panthers is ordering thousands of rounds. Do you get free shipping on your tinfoil hats? Is it more expensive to buy the hats pre-made, or do you make them yourself to keep your money out of the hands of big tinfoil?

I think calling him Sideshow Bob will actually end up bringing more attention to him. The Simpsons have been around a long, long time and will still be with reruns and such... so Sideshow Bob will be in the collective conscious for a long time and if you associate Bob with this guy, well... he's going to be remembered even if only by association.

I stand by that calling him by his actual, very common name is actually the easiest way to make him lose notoriety if that's you're goal.

As a proud member of the National Homemade Grenade Association, I applaud news organizations for not using imagery of homemade grenades used during this horrible tragedy to foment anti-homemade grenade hysteria.

There is no shortage of disturbed individuals out there, and no law is going to prevent them from access to homemade grenades.

There's a lot of probabilities about how a citizen would be able to take the guy down. It depends on where they sit, if they're among the first to get shot, if they're exposed to the tear gas or in the storm of chaos in the dark theatre and if they're able to react fast enough to the realization of "Oh shiat he has armor" since people generally aim for the torso and vitals because it has bigger mass and able to pull off a headshot before the shooter finishes them.

And I don't think nobody in the theatre was restricted from having a gun. Colorado is a very lax place for guns and they may either don't want a gun or thought "Oh nothing bad will happen".
