So, the nutbar even identifies himself as the Joker.

Isn't it a little disrespectful to the legal process and to the victims to call this guy Sideshow Bob?

No. Everyone is dehumanizing an individual who shouldn't be considered human.

ourbigdumbmouth: Isn't it a little disrespectful to the legal process and to the victims to call this guy Sideshow Bob?

No. It's disrespectful to him. And that's kinda the point.

And when are we going to hear the calls for more bomb laws?!

Why didn't his apartment blow skyhigh? If he ready wanted to kill a lot of people and he really is as smart as people are saying he would have to know they would find where he lived. And the odds of him getting away were long. So why wouldnt he place a time triggered bomb in the apartment? Somewhere between 12 & 24 hours everyone and their mother will be crowded around that pace. Cops, reporters and looky Lous will be right there. And on the off chance you do get away you could deactivate it. Doesnt make sense.

And if he had bombs why didn't he use them in the attack??

I don't think people should be able to make grenades either.

Fair enough?

He was probably hoping to kill some cops with it.

James!: He was probably hoping to kill some cops with it.

But he had guaranteed kills that the theater if he used them there. By not using them there he has to admit that he took into consideration harm to himself. That wouldn't help his insanity defense. If they really go with the "he thought he was the Joker" consideration of harming himself shouldn't have factored into the attack.

Hope they get a comic book nerd on the jury. There is no way "I was acting like the Joker" will fly with anyone that knows anything about the Joker.

I think he was planning on using the insanity defense, but he isn't actually insane. You're right though he's not as smart as he thinks he is. I doubt he'll get an insanity plea. He'll probably get the death penalty.

I think he was hoping that some cops would just break the door down at his apartment and he'd have a whole new set of bodies.

I think we're still unclear on his intention and whether or not he accomplished his goal.

I'm getting the impression that things didn't go as planned for Sideshow Bob.

Sounds sophisticated.

Isn't it about time we put apartments on the table for discussion about making them illegal? Along with costumes.

Did anyone mention that Holmes wasn't wearing body armor?

He was wearing a Blackhawk "urban assault vest" which is the Airsoft equivalent of a tactical fishing vest.

A modern computer is pretty sophisticated. It doesn't stand up very well to water either.

When is the gun community going to do something to prevent people like Holmes from killing innocent people?

If I stare too long, I'd probably break down and cry.

This shiat is pretty sad. I'm not much older than him and its awful that he killed all the people in such a heartless manner, but man..he's a goddamn kid. People are quick to condemn these folks as sick farks but you have to be really ill to want to do this.

It's kind of scary he did call himself the joker. I can't wait til they finish the investigation and release information on what he had in his house other than explosives and whatnot.

He left a stereo on a timer so it'd start blaring loud music around midnight while he was at the theatre. There was an article a few days ago about a woman at his complex who went up to knock on his door and get him to turn it off; after getting no answer, she said she tried the handle, and it didn't feel locked, but she still just went back to her apartment.

If all that's accurate, then he was probably hoping to get someone to actually open the door and trigger the explosives (possibly with a crowd of disgruntled neighbours around), rather than just set them off while everyone was in their beds.

Uh, didn't you get the memo? Comic book nerds are dangerous sociopaths. There's no way one of those people would be allowed on a jury.

Soon, some journalist will discover "The Killing Joke" and reveal what drove this previously normal young man with a promising future to commit this horrible atrocity.

One of these reporters should carry around 1000 rounds of ammo and then get back to us on how easy it would be to kill alot of people while humping 30+ pounds of ammo....hell 6000 rounds, loose, weighs 180+ pounds.

the large number of bullets sounds very very scary....but in practicality you don;t carry it around.

You can't sensationalize a lack of body armor. Honestly, the whole story is a circus right now and it's not helping anything. This article is probably the best thing I've seen about it so far.

Well the problem is that Colorado has all guns banned and nobody can get a gun to safe the day and oh wait.

James!: He was probably hoping to kill some cops with it.

Except that he told the cops about the bomb threat in his apartment. That part of this doesn't make sense to me... I remember reading one article where his downstairs neighbor said that at midnight techno-music started blasting from his apartment (and turned off at 1am), she went upstairs against recommendations from her boyfriend to bang on his door about turing the music off... there was no answer so I guess she said screw it. But that kind of makes me think this scenerio had played out between them before and perhaps she was the target of that one...

I always wonder when they report "1000s" of rounds how much of it is .22 ammo, since that stuff is usually sold in larger quantities (like 500?). Most shooters probably have "1000s" of rounds of .22LR.

If we just banned the sale of gasoline we would be much better off.

no kidding. When I buy online I have to find "free shipping"... cause 1000+ rounds by mail gets expensive

Bombs (especially the homemade kind since you can't get shrapnel grenades since they are regulated)) are not user friendly. The user of homemade IEDs has nearly as good of a chance of blowing his or her own ass up as they do of killing anyone else. Guns are the device of choice since they are largely unregulated and very safe for the user.

Geez Sheeple, are we really going to do this sideshow bob thing just cuz Drew said so? Sorry Drew but it's not even remotely clever.

Well two days ago there was that story about an attempted armed robbery in a florida internet cafe; and the elderly man with handgun training saved the day.

I think the NRA's pushing CCW with the intent of stopping these massacres. If the Aurora Cinema had not banned CCW internally, perhaps a victim would have stopped the badguy.

Or the wild multi-directional firing in the dark would have led to many more casualties... whatever.
