MLB should relegate the Marlins and Mariners to AAA where they belong.

Miami got their new stadium. Why keep any players for it?

A 31 year old, average, at best, middle IF, and a potential 4th starter are now considered a fire sale? Hot damn.

And the joke is on you because Infante has been about 2 wins over average over his career.

This trade nets the tigers probably 2-3 wins over the rest of the season, not a bad deal at all since they are giving up on Turner. As a bonus this was the first MLB trade of draft picks ever

Much better than Raburn too. And his defense doesn't look like its skipped a beat.

It is still utterly mind-boggling that the Tigers were even in that "competitive balance draft." They're not a small market and they have a massive payroll.

They should be able get something for Heath Bell. Won't happen, but a part of me would like to see Generalissimo Giancarlo Stanton in Colorado, because god knows where a HR ball of his would end up.

See also, St. Louis. But even as a Tigers fan I agree. The metric used to calculate market size was ridiculous. I believe win/loss becomes a bigger factor in the future but I don't have all the details in front of me.

Not the submitter, but I assumed that the "fire sale" reference mostly referred to trades likely to come in the next week, most notably the Fish possibly offloading Hanley Ramirez.

St. Louis was considered "small market" because of the St. Louis metro area. Detroit was only elligible for the 2nd round of picks strictly due to their acceptance of revenue sharing funds.

Big ole brand new stadium and ownership moving the only player on the roster, outside Reyes, they can market. Won't happe... You said the Marlins?

Book it.

Done.

Who said anything about moving Giancarlo Stanton?

Seriously though, from what I hear Hanley has more than worn out his welcome there.

Hanley has worn out his welcome down here. I just hope if they trade him they get some players, not just prospects. I kinda hated to see anibal get dealt. Stanton better be off the table. Thing is, they finally spent some money and its largely been a flop. Despite all that they are still only a few games under .500, it seems a lot worse.

If the Phils don't get Olt or Profar, I'd not be surprised to see them try and move some prospects for Ramirez.

Aren't the Phils themselves rumored to be in "throw in the towel for this year and unload the expensive free agents to anybody looking to give some anything of value for a rental player" mode right now?

Kind of.

Philly is an odd situation to be stuck in.

And, I'll add this before my workday begins: The Rangers are nuts if they really have Profar on the block. As a 19 year old, he's light years ahead of his age and anyone at his position.

A++++++ I LOLed, would LOL again.

I feel like most Tiger fans are scratching their heads over this one, but I for one, trust our Dombrowski overlords. He always does these stupid ass traded and they tend to somewhat pan out.

One idea I hear was that turner would help them win in the next few years, and a solid starter and marginal 2b would help them NOW.

And illitch is old and he'd like to see a WS ring before he kicks it.

/Tiger fan
//anyone is better than raburn at second.

Apparently, every Marlins' player is on the table, except Giancarlo Michael Rae Dawn Boutrous-Boutrous Stanton. This guy I know told me, so it's probably true.

The Phils are likely to let players like Victorino walk at the end of the year, but they're still of the mindset that their window with the current team is still open for another couple of years. It probably comes down to what happens with Hamels. Rumor is they have a pretty impressive offer on the table for him right now so it seems like they're looking to make another run next season with a healthier team.

The abysmal offense at shortstop has me kind of hoping that the A's pick up Hanley Ramirez, however he sounds like a gigantic dumbass and he can't play defense. Not sure if want.

They're really obviously all-in on this year and next year, throwing money everywhere to do it, I think it was pretty much assumed by most that they'd do whatever they needed to add a 2B and a starter and probably more. The only mild surprise is that it was Anibal Sanchez and that they didn't just say "fark it" and trade for Greinke or Hamels or Garza or something.

I agree. I want to trust dombro but sometimes it seems like he has some trade fetish with the marlins. I just hope it's not another Donttrelle Willis fiasco.

The A's don't have the scratch to pull that off.

And he'll fark up any locker room he steps into.

Forget "chemistry" or "clubhouse cancer" or all that. Hanley's not that good.

Maybe moving to a different place will help him, and maybe he's dogging it and/or sulking over not playing SS anymore. He's an offensive upgrade over Pennington, but a defensive downgrade, and he's not really much of a bat at this point. OPS of 712 last year and 752 this year. Shrug.

After what happened with Inge(Injury aside), I wouldn't be surprised to see more teams take a chance on good defensive players with mediocre bats. Still not very often, but still.

If I was a team like Oakland or any team that needs help, I'd look into moving him to 1B. Him being a corner infielder is better than letting him wing the ball into the first base stands.

You NLers win a few ASGs and a couple of WSs and suddenly you think you own the joint.

/AL still completely dominates regular season interleague
