Sleeping Monkey: The first of many.

Yep. Many, many more to come. This will be a busy week for the uninjured.

The Kübler-Ross model of grief needs to be updated for Americans to include the "How can I make money off this?" stage.

2012-07-24 11:46:43 AM
And the victimization of America continues. Yes it sucks some crazy a**hole with no money killed your friends and almost killed you. I'm sure you are traumatized by it. I feel bad for you, I really do, no one should have to deal with that. But aside from the killer, no one owes you sh*t. Is it the theatre's job to provide you with armed guards and metal detectors? No, but that's the next step. And the rest of us will pay for it.

Soldiers in Afghanistan deal with that kind of crap every day for worse pay than you probably make. They struggle with war trauma all the time. Welcome to humanity.

Not everything is the fault of others. Sometimes it's just one bad person who ruins it for everyone else.

I do however agree that there should be limits on assault rifles, particularly in the ammo/magazine department. You wanna go after someone? Go after the NRA. Go testify in Washington DC about how the guy didn't have to reload, about how you had to watch your friend die. Do something positive for the world, don't just get yours.

I wonder how a Beverly Hills lawyer so quickly found a nobody in Aurora, Colorado.

I live about 45 minutes south of Aurora..and love the movies, well.. I did.
Until that movie theater was negligent in their security duties and allowed people to get shot and killed.
Now I'm afraid to visit Aurora and the movie theater..I can't even drive through Aurora now.. the theater cut off most of this great state for me..and now I want to sue someone.
sue who?
sue everyone.

You guys are really trying to make "Sideshow Bob" happen?

It's going to be towards the end of the scale. The reason this is the first guy to the lawyer is because he didn't have to stop at the hospital first.

2012-07-24 12:06:21 PM
There is a very good reason why emergency exits at movie theaters do not have alarms. It goes back to the old saying, you don't yell "fire" in a crowded theater.

Is he really a "shooting victim" if he wasn't shot? He should be too grateful to be alive to immediately start thinking of a payday.

Shhhh! You want to get sued?!?!

2012-07-24 02:35:47 PM
Ok question, so you sue the hell out of the gun who shot everyone, what are you looking to gain a few pennys off his prison paycheck?

/I'm stupid, i see no logic in this other then him writing a book in prison or something?

I thought he wad suing because he busted his eardrums trying to understand what Bane was saying.

After careful consideration, I have to come down against the whole Sideshow Bob thing...

Fark has had some funny and biting nicknames before...but this one seems a little forced.

2012-07-24 02:39:38 PM
Theaters make no money, they have no money, it's not even worth it.

The movie studio? Gimme a break.

The doctor is the only one that might have legs. The pharma companies seem to be extraordinarily good at burying details but it seems like in almost every case the shooters in incidents like this are on antidepressants. I believe it is antidepressants that give people the nerve (lack of fear) to be able to do things like this.

2012-07-24 02:39:46 PM
How exactly is the theater or the movie studio culpable?

2012-07-24 02:40:08 PM

Hoboclown: What possible argument could be made that the studio making the movie is at fault?

Probably some bullshiat that the Batman movies "inspired" him to commit this terrible act. If he was that inspired, then he should have dyed his hair Joker green instead of Ronald McDonald red.

Well, if they hadn't made the movie he wouldn't have been there would he? Isn't it obvious?

Real answer: Go after the deep pockets no matter how tangentially related.

Fully expected this to be Jennifer Seeger.

Since you guys are really running with it, I thought I should offer my vote that calling this guy "Sideshow Bob" is lame. But Fark deserves credit for trying to make this guy look even worse than he already does.

I think that a lot of people are missing the point that this is a mental health issue and not a gun control issue. Sideshow Bob would have been able to get guns with more strict gun control laws. All you have to have is the drive and the money. The guy who murdered 70+ children in Norway sort of proved that. What we need to do is legitimize mental illness issues to a much larger degree than we do now and change our cultural attitudes toward them. This guy needed to be medicated and under supervision. I'm not saying that we can wipe this kind of thing out completely, but we, as a country, can do better, a lot better.

Subby, link to the real story next time puleeeze?

Lawsuit (pops)

FTFA: Karpel says "Dark Knight Rises" was particularly violent and Holmes mimicked some of the action. The attorney says theater goers were helpless because they thought the shooter was part of the movie. Karpel tells TMZ, "Somebody has to be responsible for the rampant violence that is shown today."

Fack YOU.

You chose to see it and if you didn't bother to watch the reviews and that rather prominent rating why the hell should you be surprised when it's violent?

He's just throwing so much crap on the ceiling he hopes some of it sticks. I hope a judge admonishes this moran and forces him to cover all the defendants legal costs.

2012-07-24 02:42:00 PM
Ok, so he is suing:

1. The studio that made "The Dark Knight Rises". What, couldn't be bothered to look it up? Takes 5 seconds in google.

2. The doctor who prescribed meds to Sideshow Bob. That'll work well, prove he was on meds at the time, eh?

3. The theater for not being able to protect people from a guy with body armor, multiple guns, gas grenades, and flash bangs. Your honor, can you come up with an acceptable suggestion on how to protect the theater from this?

2012-07-24 02:42:03 PM
The website said Brown's attorney plans to target three defendants -- the theater, doctors who the attorney says gave the shooting suspect several medications and the movie studio that made "The Dark Knight Rises."

Sue the theatre! Sue the doctors! Sue the movie production company! Sue the construction company that built the theatre! The guy who installed the door! The gun manufacturer! DC Comics! Rabble rabble rabble!

/diaf, you prick

Seems to me that between this gold digging asswipe and the guy who ran off and left his girlfriend, her daughter, and his 4 month old to their own devices, James may have been undertaking some noble form of population control, and perhaps he just has really, REALLY bad aim.

PonceAlyosha: How exactly is the theater or the movie studio culpable?

Well, they are not culpable, but they are at fault.

But seriously, it's like the RIAA lawsuits. Throw a huge net and see what you catch. Some may stick, others may not. That's what it looks like they are counting on.

2012-07-24 02:43:25 PM
I'm not a lawyer, but from what I've seen of cases like these I think he only has a chance of getting money out of one of the three defendants he's naming. As long as the theater was up to fire code and the guy got in with a ticket (which he did), they have probably met all they are reasonably expected to do in terms of security for their patrons. The movie studio...give me a break, at best his shyster lawyer is hoping the studio will pay them a few bucks to go away. But the doctors, here's where anything can happen. If a link can be proven between medications, improper diagnoses and treatment, etc, then you never know.

"The website said Brown's attorney plans to target three defendants -- the theater, doctors who the attorney says gave the shooting suspect several medications and the movie studio that made "The Dark Knight Rises."

By the way, is it just me or isn't it odd that this greedy F-er isn't even bothering to sue..you know...the guy who actually committed the crime!!!

Please tell me when Sideshow Bob saw The Dark Knight Rises before the premier, which was the show he shot up?

2012-07-24 02:45:28 PM
I feel bad for this person. He's been victimized and traumatized and is obviously not in the right frame of mind. The persons I'm really upset with though are the lawyers who are using his grief and trauma and manipulating it into getting money for a job they have no chance at succeeding with.

2012-07-24 02:45:56 PM

Hoboclown: What possible argument could be made that the studio making the movie is at fault?

Because if they didn't make the movie, he wouldn't have been at the movies with his now dead friend. Also the shooter wouldn't have been there to shoot up the theater. So TDKR is partially responsible.

2012-07-24 02:46:13 PM
I'm surprised all gingers weren't named as defendants as it is obvious that "derogatorily-named Simpson's character" was trying to emulate them with that dye job.

dennerman: But the doctors, here's where anything can happen. If a link can be proven between medications, improper diagnoses and treatment, etc, then you never know.

The problem with this: how can you prove whether or no Sideshow Bob was on the prescriptions? One could argue that they were necessary but he chose not to take them. Not the doctor's fault.

Hmmm, I saw a girl jump in front of a train once and it completely fexored with my head for a while. I should have lawyered up during my drinking binge. Ka-ching!
